  1. I tried the BP1 with my acoustic upright; it sounded very good. No eq tweaking needed, it also felt like it is not so sensitive to feedback with the BP1 "in between". The amp i use is the Genzler Magellan 350 combo with a BA10-3 cab
  2. Absolutely! I have owned the Avalon U5, and have the Jule Amp Monique. Also had the BasSwitch, EBS MB2 and MB3, TwoNotes LeBass, Sadowsky, 3LeafAudio Enabler, Bassics Pro BPA-1, the Goliath etc. The BP1 is a different beast compared to Monique. She is more a pristine valve amp in a small format, that can be a little bit dirty. All the others are "pedals" in comparison. The BP1 is a very clean but powerful piece of gear that just makes the bass sound bigger, better and "beautifuller"... Hence the Wow! Most preamps nowadays induce ugly preamp/input gain distortion and try to convince us they really are SVT's in a small box. Since I don't fancy overdriven SVT tone, but like the pristine clean powerful bass, the BP1 is the right thing for me.
  3. The loop is placed before the gain stage, but after the initial input buffer, so all effects are in front of the preamp. Check this impressive flow chart: DI out for recording or PA. Perfect!
  4. I got my Caveman Audio BP1 delivered yesterday, a very basic bass preamp, developed by Steen Skrydstrup in Denmark. Read the tech here: - Hi-Z Cable Input - Transformer-balanced gold-plated Neutrik XLR Wireless Input (on one model) - Transformer-balanced gold-plated Neutrik XLR DI - Transformer-balanced gold-plated Amp Out jack - Adjustable Gain and Level - Switchable audio loop - Transformer-balanced Tuner Output - 9VDC output (50 mA) for powering your tuner - Unique RFI protection and Silent Switching - 10 Year Warranty - Road-ready, zinc-plated steel enclosures Easy to use, two pots: gain and level, two stomp buttons for Mute and activate the Effects loop. I tried it in my home studio yesterday and has just one word to say: Wow! What goes in comes out, just better and more of it. This one will never leave... Well, to say more than Wow, it is truly a remarkable piece of gear. Studio grade at your feet. Harshness disappears, everything is more or less "soft and wooly" but with a clarity over the whole tonal spectrum. My plan is to use this preamp with just a compressor and a tuner, for a high end all analog signal chain. Next week I get the pedalboard delivered, a PedalTrain Metro 20. If I should complain about one thing, it is the 9 Volt outlet to power the tuner. It could have been "beefier" than 50 mA so it could power the compressor too, but that's no big deal. I chose the PB1 over the PB1 Compact, since I wanted a unit with REAL power and not the wall wart. I will add a power supply under the Metro too for any effects pedal to use in the loop. Maybe an envelope too... I got the BP1, my cat got the bubble wrap; both are happy...
  5. I so regret selling mine... Pity you're not interested in trades, since my "toy account" is a bit drained. Well, if someone buys my BSX Allegro electric upright I may free some resources... Also inside the EU - perfect!
  6. I noted one "glitch" after the update; I had to "reinstall" the compressor blocks in my presets. They all started squishing the life out of the presets. No big deal; just make a new one and copy and paste in all the presets. I only use the 1176 type compressor, so it was an easy fix. The new compressor level display comes very handy...
  7. It is very hard to capture the colour correctly, since the lighting conditions make it change a lot. The bass looks like it has a blue-ish tint in the green, but that is an illusion. Just look at the "opening video" how the colour changes depending of camera angle and the lights in the room... 2022-12-15 - krympt.mp4
  8. Now you only need the 3620:
  9. Here is another creation from Unicorn/Christian...
  10. I let the orange go, since it wasn't really to my spec's. Too much tonal options with three pickups and active electronics and a kill switch. It found a new happy home.
  11. Well, my BRG wonder is ready for delivery after a long, long wait. It'll be a long weekend... https://unicornbass.se/
  12. What free IR's have you found that are worth using? I have the Shift Line IR package. Their B15 is sweet...
  13. One step closer...
  14. It is the most good looking amp by far... I had one a few years ago. Also the 810 NEO. A massive rig! I never used the modern channel, just the old school one. But - I found it very very noisy. With the master volume above noon the waterfall started. I tried to set the input volume low and master high to get a clean sound, but it was way too noisy. With input volume cranked a bit and the master at lower setting it was nice. Then I compared the tone with my Monique and found that much nicer. It could growl, though. I also had the Bassman 100T, and found that one more versatile. Many complained about the auto bias feature, but it worked flawlessly on both my amps.
  15. First coat of BRG...
  16. A coat of lacquer - will be wiped down to silk smooth... The board with thin vintage style stainless steel frets... Never has a month felt this long...
  17. I am really surprised how much air the tiny Genzler 350 rig moves. The "bigger" 12-3 cabs with the Spartan amp is just slaughter; still rather tiny...
  18. The base coat is applied...
  19. The neck of my bass in shaping to my liking and my hands... Four pieces of purpleheart laminated to a center piece, then some nice maple. Quote from Unicornbass: "Did I mention that Unicornbass haven’t had one neck issue at all in 15 years…? Zero." The neck will be lacquered silk smooth, with the head cap matching the body's British Racing Green kind of...
  20. After a long, long wait, the bass is nearly finished. Goes into lacquer on Monday... The body is a very resonant chunk of mahogany, the neck has a centerpiece of purpleheart with maple sides and an ebony board. Here is a pic of the pickup covers, made of the same woods you find in the rest of the bass...
  21. I have only good experience with Bass Direct. Always top notch, always good service.
  22. I used to have three different Genzler speaker rigs in different size, but now I only have two: the little one and the two BA12-3SLT with a Vanderkley Spartan. I use the small for gigs and the not that small for rehearsal. Often we play louder in the rehearsal room than on stage... My aim is to reduce my rig to my Quad Cortex and go to f.o.h. and monitor system, but that remains to be experienced...
  23. This little rig never ceases to amaze me. My micro rig, the Genzler Magellan 350 with two Genzler Bass Array 103 cabinets. We played a gig on an outdoor stage; when soundcheck was over, the rain started. I covered the rig in a garbage bag and kept the "condom" on the whole gig. They arranged an improvised roof/canopy so we could carry through the gig. I've used this tiny rig on three outdoor gigs this summer, one without PA support.
  24. My two sunbursts... Dingwall Super P4 and Payson Supercharger: groove monsters!
