The Sweet record is a full on Synth so pretty difficult to emulate. But You could try something adventurous using Your wah, bit of chorus & WHY to cop the feel. I use to do The Cure's A Forest intro like that on Bass.

That’s a good thought. If you can get a decent “base” sound with a synth pedal then phaser and wah would give you a filter sweep and add some motion to it.

It won’t be exact but you might get close enough for a pub gig without having to spend loads

  2. I don't think you'll get that synth intro using a pedal as it sounds like they're modifying stuff like LFO rates, pitch and resonance as the note's being played. You might be able to get one of the software synths in Garageband or similar to do the job but I'd be surprised if a pedal allowed that much on-the-fly manipulation, sorry.

Having said that, there's a few synth pedal threads in the Gear section and I believe @Al Krow is a regular contributor so he may have a better idea than I have - or at least know of someone 😀

  3. I just sold a Mono dual gig bag to Drew and, like everyone else, found him a pleasure to deal with. A nice, easy transaction, just the way they should be!

Thanks Drew, enjoy the case, I hope you get years of good service from it!

  4. Sold.

    Now £550.

I bought this in March last year as a replacement for an Aguilar TH350 which had replaced a Genz Magellan 800 which was itself a replacement of a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2…

After much searching the GK was, I decided, “the one”. Just enough power to work with a pair of BF One10s, not that much that it wouldn’t work with just one of them and able to do 2 ohms if I needed to add a third. I liked the sound straight out the box with everything on 12 o’clock and loved that it could go dirty like the Tone Hammer or clean like the Genz.

    So why sell?

Easy. I’m no longer gigging (on bass anyway) and this is far too good to be a practice amp. Plus I need the space. And the cash. 😀

It seems that Polar (the UK distributors) are the only people to have these in the UK at the moment and they’re over £800. Mine is in as-new condition, hasn’t seen any use apart from a few rehearsals and comes with the original box, manuals and foot switch.

You’re welcome to drop in and try before you buy or I can meet within a reasonable distance. I’m also heading to that there London in early June so that may give more options for a meet.

I’m also happy to pack and ship to established BC members within the UK - PM me with a rough location and I’ll get a quote.

    More pics to follow but here’s a taster from the NAD thread I started;

Er, please note: Barefaced cab not included

  5. The clear out continues and here we have a Mono M80 Dual Gig Bag in excellent condition.

It’s hardly been used - I took it to a few gigs and then stopped taking a spare bass and so it’s just been sat on the shelf with a couple of basses stored in it.

Collection is an option or a meet within a reasonable distance. I’m also scheduled to visit that London in early June so that may provide some better opportunities for a meet.

Or I can wrap it in heavy duty plastic and courier within the UK. If you PM me with a rough location I’ll get a quote.

So you are more after taking a keyboard round rather than a module?

No, I’d be happy with a module - but I don’t mind taking a keyboard if I have to.

Its pretty simple, most of the sound modules have those sounds built in as that is what most people need

Interesting. I’ll take another look at the Roland Boutique series and some of the Behringer modules. If they have the sort of sounds that I want built in then they’re a no-brainer.

Thanks, BTW, for all the suggestions and apologies for derailing the thread somewhat

I guess it depends what sounds you want

The Miniak caught my attention when it was described as being a walk through the history of hits. Ideally, I’d like a decent set of strings (the GR’s are okay but a bit limited), a good Hammond/Leslie and then a bunch of classic 80’s synth patches. We play mainly 80’s stuff and although I can get close approximations building my own it’s very time consuming and, in a perfect world, I’d find a module with them all pre-built (I know, I’m a dreamer!).

The Roland Boutique range is very interesting but it seems like I’d need to buy a few of them and not all have presets. The Roland Integra would probably be perfect but that’s well over a grand and way more than I need.

I did wonder about the Yam reface dx or the MX49 but I guess i should try and get to a shop and try a few out…

Wouldn't you be better off with a sound module rather than the Miniak, assuming you haven't got an iPad or need keys. The miniak doesn't have a better sound module than the one in the GR55

Note also that the output of the Gr55 can be a bit glitchy for fast patches.

I’ve just had a look at the Miniak and I think you’re right, it doesn’t really offer much more than the GR55.

A sound module would be ideal but I’m struggling to find one with a good set of presets at a sensible price.

I had to spend a lot of time setting up the GR55 when I got it, calibrating it and setting the sensitivity, etc. Since then it’s never glitched on me at all. That said, I don’t play really fast patches, mainly strings or pads, but it easily copes with the odd sax solo or piano fill.

I know they’re getting on a bit and there are probably better midi solutions these days but I really like mine and it does just what I need it to do.

I just want to broaden the available palette a little if I can

  9. I use a Roland GR55 which is getting a bit long in the tooth but still works brilliantly for those times when we need strings or synth textures.

I have a couple of patches set up where the E and A string are “straight” bass and the D and G strings are picked up as MIDI and handled by the GR55.

I’m now looking to use the MIDI out to drive an external sound module. I’ve proven the theory with my little Roland Gaia but I want something that has a decent selection of preset voices. The Akai Miniak mentioned earlier sounds interesting…

  10. The second one is now on hold pending completion.

I’m no longer gigging so I’m selling my remaining Barefaced One10s.

The first one is now sold but the other is still available for £300 (haven’t updated the pics because it’s identical apart from having a slipcover instead of a carry bag).

I’m assuming that anyone interested enough to be reading this is already familiar with just how good these little cabs are so I’ll just give you the details.

I’ve gigged this one once, it’s been to a couple of rehearsals and that’s about it. I did have plans to use a pair of them together with my GK Fusion S 500w head but guess what put paid to all our gig plans last year?!

It’s in excellent condition. There’s none of the Tolex shrinkage at the back which seems to be a feature of so many BF cabs.

It comes with a Roqsolid slip cover (unpadded). There are no rips or tears that I can see.

I have a box box and packing so I could post to established BC members within the UK at buyer’s expense but I’d prefer collection or a meet if possible. I have a couple of trips planned to London in June so PM me to see what can be arranged.

    Any questions, please PM

Update: I’ve now listed my GK Fusion S 500 head. This plus the one10 makes a light but powerful rig that sounds fantastic…..open to offers on the pair!

  11. Mick set a new BassChat record for fastest deal ever (I think) when he bought my Sandberg within minutes, nay, seconds of me listing it.

Paid promptly, fast responses to messages and was completely unfazed when I was unable to deliver on the day we’d agreed and he had to wait another 48 hours.

A gentleman throughout and a pleasure to do business with.

  12. In a perfect world I’d keep this but I need to make room and this, and my 1982 US Precision, both have to go…. so, up for sale is a 2012 (I think going off the serial number and Sandberg website) Sandberg California VM4.

Essentially, this is their take on a Precision bass with both Precision and Musicman style pickups and active/passive electronics.

I bought this used off a BC member back in (I think) 2014 or 15 and used it as my main gigging bass for years. It’s average weight (not super light but not heavy by any means - certainly a lot lighter than the above-mentioned Precision) and it sounds fantastic. I use it in passive mode most of the time, switching to active occasionally if I need a bit of a boost because of an over-enthusiastic guitarist.

It’s currently strung with relatively new D’Addario NYXLs (I say relatively new - they’re maybe six months old and good for another five or six years in my book 😁).

Condition is excellent. There are, as you’d expect, a few little scuffs here and there but I can’t see any paint missing and any dings or knocks are cosmetic.

It also comes with a very nice Sandberg gig bag which is in decent Nick but the stitching on one of the zip pockets has come undone.

I’ve priced this to sell quickly and I’m looking for a straight sale, no trades.

The bass is in Cleethorpes and you’re welcome to come and try it out. I can also meet within an hour or so and I also travel a fair bit with work so may be able to meet closer depending what trips I have planned. I don’t really have any packing materials for it so I’d prefer not to post - drop me a PM to discuss options.
