Up for sale is my Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster in Faded Cherry burst with a replacement pick guard loaded with Kinman AVn series noiseless pickups and new controls. Price also includes hard case and the original pick guard which contains the standard controls and the Fender N3 pickups that were originally on the guitar. It’s a simple job to swap back to the original - just two wires to connect.

I bought this new from Coda Music in 2013. It’s a beautiful guitar and has the compound radius neck which is a joy to play. It also comes with locking tuners (labelled as Fender but they look very much like Gotohs), a good quality hard case, all the usual case candy (lead, Allen keys, setup manual, etc) and the aforementioned N3 pickups.

I found the N3s to be a little lacking in “character” (whatever that is!) and so I built up a new (white) pickguard with the Kinman AVn noiseless pickups. I really like these as they give the guitar a real “bite”, particularly on the bridge pickup. As mentioned above, I’ll include the original “parchment” ‘guard and pickups in the price so the guitar can be put back to original spec if required.

The guitar is immaculate with no marks, scratches or dings that I can see. The rear plate still has the factory plastic wrap on it.There are a couple of small marks on the case (see pics).

I’d prefer a direct sale but if you have a trade let me know. There’s nothing I’m really looking for so I’ll probably decline but you never know....

I loved Drama when it came out but when I listened to it recently I just felt it had dated a bit.

I do, however, really like Fly From Here, particularly the later version with Trevor Horn singing.

I wouldn’t call it a true Yes album though.

I also thought The Ladder had some decent stuff on it - but if I could only have one album of theirs it would be Yessongs - my favourite live version of And You And 
I.

I just did a trade with Ben; my Genzler Magellan 800 for his Mesa Subway. Great bloke top deal with, good communication throughout and drove some distance out of his way so that we could do the swap in one of those shady-looking car park meetings.

An immaculate Zoom G5 multi-fx pedal. This thing does it all; effects, amp and cab sims, DI out, looper, rhythm machine, USB audio interface - and that funky multi-way Z pedal that gives you expression control of two effects simultaneously. 

There’s a ton of stuff on the web about these units so I won’t repeat it here other than to say that they’re built like tanks, really flexible and easy to use.

Mine is boxed and complete with power unit. I should have the manual for it but if I don’t then it’s downloadable from the Zoom website.

I’m in Cleethorpes if you want to audition and collect or able to meet within a reasonable radius of sunny Cleethorpes for one of those dodgy-looking car park meets - all socially distanced, of course. Or happy to ship within the UK for an extra £10. PM me to discuss options.

I’m not really looking for trades at the moment unless you happen to have a nice Cort B5 five string and would take the Zoom in (part) payment.

I bought this from a fellow BCer last year as a backup/rehearsal amp but the arrival of a GK Fusion S means that something else has to go and it’s the little Aggie.

I’ve been really impressed with the power and tone of this little amp - it sounds fantastic through my Barefaced One10 (and even better through two of them!).

I’ve only used it at rehearsals and I don’t think the volume’s ever been above half way - this thing is surprisingly grunty for such a small amp. 

I also like the Drive feature. It’s easy to dial in just a little (or a lot if that’s your thing) grit which makes my Sandberg sound lovely.

The amp is in excellent condition and the gig bag is pretty good apart from a split in the hand grip part of each of the two handles (which is as it came to me).

No trades needed at the moment thanks (unless you have a Cort B5 five string you want to get rid of) and the price includes postage in the UK.

It all depends on context.

Playing Mustang Sally to a crowded pub at the end of the best set you’ve ever played to punters who are all having the time of their lives and singing at the tops of their voice is one of those life-affirming moments that is not diminished by a Sunburst P with a tort’ guard.

I suppose it could be but the problem I have with this (and with drop D) is that it alters the relationship between the notes across the strings and my little brain can’t cope with change like that at my advanced age. It expects that, whatever note I play, the fifth, fourth, sixth - all the other notes of the scale - are in specific places in relation to to it. Downtune a string and those relationships go out of the window and I am left floundering.

So, for me with, my limitations, tuning to drop anything is just not an option.

One thing I’m still curious about - are the necks the same size/profile on the BB and TRBX? Specs seem similar but I’m getting the impression that the TRBXs are a little lighter than the BBs?

BEAD stringing is brilliant!

I had to tweak the action a little but I’m really pleased. 

However....

This thread has reignited my GAS for a five string and - taking all the input on board - I think I’m going to try a nice, light, (and cheap) 34” scale fiver. At the moment it’s a toss up between an entry-levelish Ibby of some sort or (slightly wider spacing) a Yamaha TRBX305.

(Looks wise, I absolutely love the Yam TRBX605 in red burst but I must be strong and stick to the budget).

So... basses are going to be sold to make room in the rack and as soon as they’ve gone I’m off to Gear4Music in York to have a noodle on theirs before I hand over any cash. I know, it’s an unusual approach but I should try it at least once, right?

In the meantime, I can carry on having fun with BEAD tuning.

Launched in 1992, this is the MkII version of the DR-550. 

It’s in excellent, fully working condition and although I no longer have the power supply, I do have the original manual and preset patterns list.

The Donner page turner from Amazon. Dead simple to use - the only thing that confuses me is that the iPad sees it as a keyboard so you can’t type anything while the page turner is connected, I always forget this and spend five minutes trying to work out when the iPad won’t allow me to type anything.

I think all turners are the same in this respect and, frankly, it’s more a reflection on my slow-wittedness....
