  1. Try the Lion Inn at Boreham, just on the outskirts of Chelmsford with easy access off the A12.

My pal who lives in Chelmsford has had a couple of parties in their very pleasant function room, no idea of price, but definitely worth an enquiry.

If guests are coming from away, there is a very handy Premier Inn just up the road for overnight stays.

Tokai (and Fernandes, Greco, ESP/Navigator etc) & their replica-standard copies were the reason Fender launched Fender Japan/Squier, but Tokai didn't get involved themselves until the late 90s CIJ era. In 1982 Fender did a deal with Kanda Shokai to produce Japanese Fenders at Fujigen Gakki, which meant Kanda stopped producing their Greco-branded Fender clones. Anecdotally the very first JV Fenders & Squiers started their trip down the production line as Grecos.

  3. I was a guitarist back in the 1980’s and the very first early Tokai products were exceptionally well made copies of the USA brands, as Bassfinger mentioned earlier, the quality and playability at one point was considered better than the USA guitars.

I had the Strat and ( Love Rock ) Les Paul and both were superb instruments, I still wished I had them, as they are now very collectible and worth some serious money.

Tonight ( Sunday) at 9.45pm on Sky Arts they are showing ‘Concert for George’.
A wonderful celebration of the music of George Harrison by a star studded cast, in

my view it’s one of the best rock docs ever, up there with ‘The Last Waltz’.

Sad to see three artists that come to mind on the stage performing that are no longer with us, Tom Petty, Billy Preston and Gary Brooker. ☹️

Watched a bit of "Mick Fleetwood and Friends " last night. Did anyone notice the bit where he had trouble with the autocue? He really doesn't have much luck with them, does he? 😄

The bit that made me laugh was the big last tune with everyone on stage at the same time (always a recipe for disaster), somebody shouted for John Mayall to do a harmonica solo, it looked like he had forgotten how to play it and just made a humming noise.

Whereas I welcome it.  When someone dies they are dead.  They have died.  This recent trend to say 'passed' is, imo, just a pointless euphemism that is simply ducking what is perceived to be an uncomfortable issue.  Yet it will happen to every single one of us.  Seems daft to me.

I find it irritating when the word “passed” is used to describe a person who has died, it’s another euphemism that’s made its way over from the USA. ☹️

  7. Paul Jones AKA Kenneth Williams doing old Manfred Mann tunes.

I used to really like him in the Blues Band, I think he is now 81 and sadly his voice is a very pale shadow of what it used to be.

Band meeting -1. Decide. ^firing^. Job done.

Start auditioning for new backing vox. You are asking a bit much for a true lead vixen to hang about doing backing vox most of the time. Don't make the same mistake twice.

To my mind the band gave her an opportunity but she has fallen short. She needs to be set free to follow her own folksy path. Maybe that will make her really angry and turn her into the next Joan Jet, doubtful.

Oh no, not another Joan Jet, one is bad enough. ☹️

  9. I had a similar thing many years ago with a married couple, although both of them were not in our band.

Chris was our drummer and a really nice guy, but his wife was a mouthy old dragon who ruled the roost and was very opinionated.

When he first joined us, she would come to every gig, it was like having a sixth member of the band, always poking her nose in and criticising, it really came to a head and the band gave him an ultimatum that he would not bring her to gigs or we find another drummer, we didn’t see her any more and Chris continued to play with us.

Chris was definitely more relaxed at gigs with her not there, he ended up divorcing her and I played in two other bands with him, sadly he was killed in a motorcycle accident a few years ago.

Any car painter will be able to do a sweet job of giving your precious some stupid flashy paintjob.

I would personally seek out an airbrush specialist painter, then you could have a real trick paint job.

Last one of the year for me tonight (Sat 16th). 4 Play 🤨 at Smith’s in Bourne. Good! 9 til 11:20, two sets. Played well, chucked in Can’t Get Enough without rehearsal and it was fine. Fairly quiet but everyone enjoyed it!

Tight setup, and struggling for power points (I give in - I’ll bring my box of cables in future, it’s not my band / PA but…). Drummer had an amazing new sparkle green Gretsch. Bloody lovely!

Is your drummer Dave Soul by any chance ?

Played at an arts centre in Petersfield on Friday night with Leather & Lace. Venue wasn't great for onstage sound but apparently it was fine out front and the audience loved it!

Personal highlight was the sound tech who said my bass sound was best he's ever worked with live! Splendid 💜😎

Cetera, any specific reason why the drummer was set up off to the right and not centre stage ?

  13. Currently suffering with it after clearing leaves in the garden, been having back issues for years since suffering a serious bout of sciatica.

Was using Trace Elliot for years, now using MarkBass.
