Tried to start a Motley Crue tribute band up several years ago, we really were trying to replicate them musically and visually, after lots of auditions for the drummer, Tommy Lee, we had to give up as none of them had a really large penis 😄

The problem is that this isn't mainstream covers stuff that you could play down a pub. To get any audience, you have to be able to market it, which realistically means doing a tribute to one of the bigger prog bands.
We have a band in our area dedicated to playing just prog covers, the band is made up from the cream of the crop musicians in the area, they only do a few gigs a year and they are always rammed with punters and a lot of local musicians seeing how it’s done, the musicians in the band play in mostly party/wedding bands on a regular basis.

About five years ago I went into a florists in Kidderminster the day before Valentine's day.
Ordered a bunch of Roses for the then Mrs StingRayBoy and nodded hello to the long-haired, leather jacketed old feller waiting for his flowers.
We stood there and made "Tsch, mad this innit, what are we like?" faces at each other for a very long five minutes, while my brain played "That's Robert Plant. That's Robert Plant. That's Robert Plant. Out of Led Zep." on a loop.
They say never meet your heroes, but I think he handled it really well.Who would have thought.

Funny enough, our kid met Lenny Henry whilst at a hotel when having to pay visit to the toilet
I had similar the other week after a gig when I was stood next to Mark Radcliffe😁
That could be a topic about who you saw in the toilet, but I reckon George Micheal would probably win.
Was it a Premier Inn ?

Great song. What key are you doing it in. /
If i remember right it was Eb tuning and played on the E.
I played that in one of my very first bands just after taking lessons back in late 70's possibly 78.
Happy days
Dave
I’m almost certain that all the Lizzy songs have the instruments tuned down a half step to Eb.

A couple of tales from me, I think I might have mentioned one in another thread.
We were forming a band in the mid eighties playing rock covers and auditioning for a drummer, a teenager came along with his dad, great little drummer, but we rejected him only because of the age difference, he was about fifteen years younger than the rest of us, his name was Mark Heaney.
Mark went on to play with The Seahorses, The Shining and Gang of Four, he is a world renowned session drummer who has toured and recorded with many big named artists/bands.
I played in a Free tribute band around 2008 and our original drummer quit due to a clash of commitments with his function band, our guitarist was the head guitar tutor for schools in Lincolnshire and had done several seminars with a well known drummer, this guy then became our new drummer in the Free tribute, his name was Jeff Rich ex Status Quo, Jeff was a real down to earth bloke and it was a great experience to share the stage with him on many gigs.- 2

No. He's an ignorant foul mouthed moron. That's it.
He is 51 and still not grown up yet, still acts like a mouthy teenager.

Some serious bass groove on this.

Peter Frampton was in two well established bands prior to his solo work, The Herd and Humble Pie.
His Comes Alive album has achieved 17 million worldwide sales, definitely worthy of a place in the hall of fame.

Tribute bands. What do you expect?

This is my old friend and vocalist Paul Henderson who was in the first rock band I played in during the 1980’s.
Paul was always a massive Bowie fan and always sounded very similar vocally, Paul now goes out as Aladdinsane with a full band as a Bowie tribute act, he gigs all over world.
This video is from the Black Star album launch party in Germany, he was specially invited over to perform solo, I presume this was the house band they provided, they have definitely gone big time on the visuals.
