1. A back for sale bump because I have made my own medium scale bass and bought another shorty scale from a member of the forum. Mike(Pestie)
2. Just keep on going mate. I am fairly new to gigging and have had similar experiences, at one it sounded like six people doing six different songs. My advice is just enjoy it, laugh it off and get back on and do it again. It's great fun so just enjoy and try not to be too hard on yourself. Mike(Pestie Don't take life too seriously because you won't get out alive!!!
3. Thank you all for your help and support. I am glad you went into detail about the finish Rich. I will sand, nitro and bees wax and it will look even better than it does now. Thanks again to you all, I will post pics again when I have finished the final bit of sanding and polishingm Mike
4. It has a couple of coats of hand applied nitro cellulose on at the moment. I still need to do a bit more fine sanding then I think I will either put on some more nitro or some tung oil and bees wax, but I suppose it is unfinished. Thanks for asking Mike
5. Couple of pics posted at the head of the thread. Cheers Mike(Pestie)
6. Come on lads, let's get back to being sensible. Martin is a top guy, top teacher, top guitar maker! During the week I was there I met four different local guitar/bass players all gigging musicians, men and women who have been going back for years and between them have made some incredible guitars and basses of the highest quality. I can't put mine down! I can't recommend Martin and his guitar/bass making skills enough, try it out, you will be amazed, I know I was and I have a bass that I made and am really proud of. I will post some pics as soon as I get them onto Photobucket. Thanks Mike(Pestie)
7. Just sold Alan a Fat Finger. Excellent all round transaction, quick bank transfer and the deal was done. Top man and a credit to Basschat. Highly recommended.5*****. Deal with Alan confidently. Mike (Pestie)
8. I have just got back from the best week I have had. I spent Mon-Fri at MD Guitars in Otley, W,York's with Martin Dixon of MD Guitars making my own bass. It was unbelievable, I started on Monday with four pieces of fairly rough wood: Swamp Ash, American Maple, Rosewood. By yesterday, after a lot of routing, sawing, filing and sanding I had a P type bass with Wizard Thumper & Eighty Four in it and Wilkinson hardware. It is amazing and there is only one in the world!!!!! That's got to be good. It has a full size P type Swamp Ash body and a medium 32" scale, tailor made! CTS pots, Orange Drop cap, Switchcraft jack socket, Allparts scratchplate and control knobs. If you want a realy exceptional week in the Dales and walk away with your own hand built bass to any design or spec you want you should try it. Martin is in the back of guitarist under MD Guitars give it a go, I'm going back soon to make another. MD Guitars, 01943 462604, [email protected] Prices range from £450 for the week and that includes the guitar you make and lunch. You can also do B&B for £15 per night, evening meal is another £5. 21. For sale a lovely 2011 Gibson SG short scale bass for £450 ono. I bought this off Skinnyman a few months ago and it is absolutely lovely. It is in faded/satin cherry and has a nice subtle shine to it. This is a very light bass with a massive sound from the two pick ups. The action is really low and it plays really well. I am only selling because I am going North this weekend to buy a Spector Shorty from another member and this will now be surplus to my needs. The bass is virtually unmarked, although there is a small mark above the neck pickup which was on it when I bought it and there is a small ding on back which I did on the day I got it. I don't how but I did. I have tried to show them in the pics. The guitar is currently strung with roundwounds but it also comes with a nearly new set of LaBella flatwounds that it came with. There is a Gibson hard case with the bass. I live near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire and you are more than welcome to come and try it out and have a cuppa. Alternatively, I am happy to ship at the buyers expense. Thanks for looking Mike (Pestie)
22. Thank you all for the cracking comments above. Thanks Jezzaboy. The pickup is original and I was told they were DiMarzio but I can see that they may be a Japanese copy, They are still awesome and sound lovely!! Thank you all again
23. For sale my 1982 Matsomuko Westone Thunder 1 priced at £100. The bass has been played over its 30 year life and it has the scars to prove it. Some would call it reliced, others road worn, either way it is not perfect. It has dings and scrapes, to the body and neck, not deep but they are there. They don't affect playability which is really nice with a low action. The bass is all original except the control knobs which have been changed in the past to old radio controls. The brass nut and bridge is still there as is the original DiMarzio pick up which sounds awesome. The bass is heavy and made from Ash but that is what gives it the lovely deep and rich tone. There is some fret wear but it has years left in it. All in all a nice almost original example of a good Japanese bass which comes in an old battered but functional hard case. I live near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire and you are welcome to come and try it out and have a cuppa. I am happy to ship at the buyers expense. Thanks for looking Mike (Pestie)
