This bass has been in Simply Red, too. Just sayin' ...
And I sold it to someone who had been searching for a broadneck fretless Warwick for years. No regrets, I still have a Dolphin Pro1 5str. with MEC stuff on, it kills!
Hoping you can get a good deal on that fretless Dazed, keeping fingers crossed for ya.
Cheers, Marco -
It is a broadneck by the looks of it. This was mine. Expect something similar!
-
Or is it a broadneck? Can't see clearly on my smartphone...
-
LOL! just kidding.
I owned both the 89 with bart j+hb and a broadneck fretless 91 with bart soapbars.
The 89 lacked in the lows and I always found myself dialling in the bottom end to max. I had the best midrange presence in the workd though and sounded very 'jaco' to me. Great bass!
The 91 with bart soapbars had lots more low + high end but not too much. It is much more versatile then the 89 tone wise.
By the looks of it the bass you're talking of is a custom shop order as it is lined and has bart soapbars while not being a broadneck. If I were you I'd be more then interested! -
Hello.

How rare!

If I weren't totally hooked on old Trace SMX heads I'd be checking out those Rootmasters for sure!
Is that comp a dualband one?
-
OK never mind.
-
No, but marketing allows this and people do buy them for that kinda money.
This also creates a huuuge gap between prices of new instruments and used ones, although prices for certain used market models have gone up as well over the last two years or so.
Still, I'd sooner buy a used German model then any of the pro series or rockbass series models. With musical instruments I try to avoid buying new anyway. -
Don't underestimate the Corvette STD. I love the way they sound!
True they used to be the cheaper model but the cost of building them was close to that of other models back in the day.
Just as good as any other Wawick! -
I have read about lots of nineties Warwicks with neck / truss rod related problems.
When you are able to fix it you got yourself the best bass in the world though...
Still playing this bass every day.

Hi Japhet, would you be willing to ship to the Netherlands?
I have been searching for a second SMX head (i own an RAH600SMX) but can't seem to find any down here.
Cheers, Marco

Depends on the bass model. On my Precision and ric I have moderate action because I don't want any fretnoise on those. On the Marcus Miller jazz, EBMM Sterling and Warwick I have my action low as possible because I do want fretnoise on those when I dig in.

I tried the brightbox both horizontal and vertical. There is no difference in the sound whatsoever (even when walking up n down the room) by putting it up straight so it is going to remain horizontal.

Rockschool? What nonsense is this?
One goes to school to learn useful stuff and rock out with the band to forget that stuff.
Don't combine rock & school. Disasters will be prone. -
That bass probably has leds in the fretboard. Not all those batteries are for the preamp.
-
Not having a volute is not a good thing if you or a co-musician is having a habit of knocking basses from their stands.
Either is perfectly playable btw...
Have you ever seen the back of the neck near the headstock on an old Ric 4001? I wonder if that would be in the way.
Anyway, let's talk Warwicks. -

Any experiences of a fretless 5 string dolphin pro 1 2001ish with Bart soap bars against an 89 4 string with Bart mm + j ?
Owned the 4 for many years and may now have found a 5 for sale. Curious how the sound is with differents pickups and later manufacturing compares?
What's a fair price for a 5 like this?

I owned both the '89 bartolini sc + hb fit and a '91 broadneck fretless 5str with bartolini soapbars.
The '89 is king of the midrange and punches through any mix better then ANY other bass I have ever heard.
The bn fl with soapbars however had a much broader palette of tones and has a lot more bottom end that you can dial in. I would buy that bass in a heartbeat if I didn't already own a '95 regular neck 5str with MEC pre + pups on, which to me is the best sounding of the bunch.
Value of that five string? 1500 quid is a good estimate made by Kev. -
In the nineties I often visited a great coverband with lads from Liverpool, their bassplayer was using a Karlson cab with 15" speaker with an old Ibanez Musician bass. His tone was stellar.

Are you out of your mind?

Gigging is so much fun! In fact a great gig gives you more happyface energy then anything else. Your grin wil last the whole week.
So indeed. Grab yourself by the balls and get out there, soldier!
Don't be shy. When you're on stage you are up here and they are down there. You win. Wahooooo! Make those chicks shake their stuff like gigglywiggly. -
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Now I am more inclined to put it upright. Will get back on this soon as the band had practice night.
Cheers, Marco -
Ow and comb filtering? The 2x15 doesn't go above 4kHz and the brightbox not under 4kHz.
-
It will fall if I use it upright. I use it for more clarity in personal monitoring only. Besides that, Trace Elliot put rubber feet under it so they reckoned this position is okay too...
But I will put it upright next week to see if I notice any improvement. Thanks for the tip.
Ashdown RootMaster 420 My Thoughts
in Amps and Cabs
Posted
Don't you know there's small watts and large ones? Sheesh I have to tell you guys everything....
But seriously, It is my experience that an old Trace AH250 with GP11 pre blows 500+ watts class D amps out the water... And I'm using an RAH600SMX as my main amp. *\o/*
So, stated amounts of watts do not say it all. There's more involved like damping factor and slew rate of an amp, things people never talk about or notice...
Like with cars people talking about horsepower while it is really all about torque.
I do believe Ashdown when they say the 420w rootmaster sounds larger then a 600w mag. They have the information we lack.
