Adblock Plus gets rid of sponsored ads on the newsfeed, as well as other ads on the page, on both desktop and mobile, and I've always ignored FB's requests to pay for band advertising. I am there as myself and as the admin for a few band pages I manage. The band pages are - or perhaps were - quite useful for gigging bands, to direct fans and venues to something they can easily interact with online, unlike a website.

I've been muting a lot of 'friends' in the last few months - I can only tolerate a certain amount of publicly posted stupidity.

It is surprisingly easy to not miss FB at all. I very much prefer to be along somewhat likeminded spirits on BC and the Warwick forum. I should have done this much much sooner.
