1. Just bumping this up as I managed to help a few people out in the run up to Xmas last year regarding last minute deps and bookings. Hope everyone has a busy and lucrative December and New Year. Cheers, Mike
2. Just for the sake of having something to look at, looking thru the pics I have, it's quite eye-opening how the colouring and quilts change in different light. Mike
3. Apparently the abalone kept splitting while he was cutting it..... i actually think there were additional factors as to why it didn't happen but thats neither here nor there. Mike
4. If porn is what you want, do you want new basses or just more pics of the basses we have?
5. I do have LED's but the original plan was to have abalone block inlays to compliment the colouring of the body and headstock and to add a bit of contrast to the fingerboard. Mike
6. I tried to have abalone block inlays in my Rumour 4.........didn't happen. Mike
7. I forgot to mention, they have an Ebay shop which you may save a few quid on if they have what you want in the Ebay shop. If they don't, ring them and they may have the dimensions for the cabs you have. If they don't, give them the dimensions including the hole dimensions for handles, etc and they will make them for you. You can even choose the colour of the piping/edging to match any colour scheme your cabs may have i.e. EBS - blue, Trace - green, Markbass - yellow. Mike
8. Massive +1 for Roqsolid, just bought 2 4x10 covers and a 2x10 cover for around £130 all in, excellent service and great response, I'd heartily recommend them, great people to deal with. Mike
9. My god, the doctor is wrong.......has the world stopped... hell frozen over? Nick, is this a first? Bass in the LIAPW vid is a twin humbucker Empathy....sorry to be pedantic! Not sure if Rob Steen has Al's Matrix, Rob Steen bought a maple Empathy (I know, I was after the same bass!), not sure who Al sold his P/J Matrix too but he didn't have it for long as I recall.....Al, if you're reading, help us out! Mike
10. I've a feeling that bass on The Gallery wall was Alex's ex-Mark King Matrix that he purchased from The Bass Centre in 97 when Mark put loads of basses in for sale. It was a belter of a bass too, splendid sound! Best check with Al for confirmation. Mike
11. Could you not have 2 and 4, a 4 string and a 5 string or a 5 and a fretless? Credit crunch, shmedit crunch...... Mike
12.
Mike still has my pantyhose/leotard combination so if you are reading this Mike, I need them back!!! Mike is a true gent!
Told you before, they've already been passed on to a more willing encumbent. Cheers Martin, pleasure. Catch u soon. Mike
13. You should have a word with Bernie about that, his workshop is far too small but somewhere in or around London with food and drink close at hand would be good. Speak to his lordship, he might even have a few ideas...sorry we seem to be hijacking the thread....nevermind the bass has sold. Well done to the lucky new owner, wise purchase. Mike
14. Likewise! They all come south back to daddy eventually.....
15. Mine won't be......
16. Nope, ordered them from AxesRUS, Born2BeMild wanted the same thing back in August so there is a topic about it, I'm just too lazy to look for the link. AxesRUS are very good by the way, helpful and very quick. Big thumbs up! Mike
17. Thought it was about time I added some pics of the beast I acquired in the Reverb sale 2 months ago....it's not possible to have too much Spector porn anyway.
18. No idea, kind of depends on what you want I guess....you don't want to know how long my Rumour 4 took although that wasn't due to what I wanted. Mike
19. Cool, look forward to it. Mike
20. Give me a shout when you're free Gary! Mike
21.
So come on Mike, which is your fave...? Your number 1?
Too difficult!!!!! Depends what I'm doing or need them for, which is why I have them, most of them had a reason for me buying them. The GB's are exceptional and are one of the few basses that if I did 20 gigs in 20 different places, they would sound great regardless and still sound as they should no matter where I what I put them through. The Statii work very well too and I love the fact those necks won't move, particularly handy for wedding gigs in marquees where temperatures fluctuate wildly. The difference in sound and tone between the 2000 and Empathy is quite radical too. The T-Bass is just a great workhorse and is the only bass that keeps up with the GB's in terms of volume and sheer power. Really easy to play although the brass side dots are a nightmare to see in gig lighting conditions. The Kubicki's are great playing basses but don't get the use they deserve as my main gigging band plays a semi-tone down which doesn't go hand in hand with 32" scale basses, the strings just end up too baggy, great basses to play though. Then the Spector....well it's the latest acquisition and just so easy to get to grips with, great neck, great tone. Still getting used to it but taking it out on a few gigs over the next week or two. Mike
22. You must be kidding, I like to keep the headstocks and bodies away from concrete and brickwork. Can't use our fences due to the triffids....sorry trees and bushes.
23. Unlike some (with extraordinarily large fences!), I didn't have enough stands to line them up! Mike
24. Cheers guys, Funnily enough, Bernie wasn't keen on the 'Kingfisher Blue' with gold hardware combination when I told him what I wanted, really wasn't enamoured with the idea. It was my bass so I wanted it how I explained. I think he conceded defeat once it was built!! Mike
25. Yup, it's an East Marcus Retro, had it put in about 3 and a half years ago and its great, works great for recording where you need to add mids or take some out and the extra treble boost works wonders, takes it away from being just a Jazz bass. I can recommend checking one out, not to everyones taste but I like it. Mike
