Bullshit. Your basses have been fine for the last 30 odd years. Sure, shielding will reduce the problem - but the amp shouldn't be generating the interference in the first place. I'm really surprised and dissapointed that that is the advice that Genz Benz has given to you.
There's no mention in the description so gotta ask - is there a gigbag or case with this?
Yes, I'll throw in a gigbag or a case.
lovely looking bass and I'm pretty damned keen despite having promised myself that 11 basses was enough... it is enough, isn't it?
That depends on how many arms you have I've about a dozen at the moment. Occasionally I think I've too many, but then I think of Jimmy Page (1500+ guitars) and that puts my little assortment into context ...
Noooooooooooooooo, that is way way way too cheap. You were supposed to say £500 so I could justify not buying it. Gonna hold fire until I'm sober
OK - £500 to Beedster. I got this one at a good price so am selling it for what I have invested in it - it would be nice if it went to someone buying their first decent bass.

Looking for £215 of your English pounds ... It'll pretty much give you any sound a Fender jazz will give you (bearing in mind it has a pan control rather than V/V/T). The PUPs are stacked Alnico's and sound fairly similar to the original Fender noisless PUPs. I've had TI flats on my other one for years (this one has some unknown rounds) and they (TI's) are a great match with the bass. The bass/preamp is very organic sounding and allows good control of the bass and mids. It's very easy to get a good blues/motown/jazz tone. Do a search for reviews on the bass, there's plenty out there and I've yet to see a bad one.

I've never used the GBE750, but would be surprised if it's normal (the Neo-Pak is quiet). Does this happen with the P and the Jazz? Does the hum change with the orientation of the bass to the amp? (Most modern G&K amps I've used radiate a fair bit of noise through the front panel, but it's only noticable if you're within about 3 feet). If the amp does this at another location I'd say it's either faulty or badly designed - either way get a replacement unit. If the second one's the same it's not something I'd put up with. There's a GB engineer who regularly answers questions on talkbass - you could ask advice there. I guess your amp search isn't finished ...
UPDATE: Gah! (again) The amp sounds GREAT. Unbelievably great. BUT..... I'm getting a horrendous hum whenever I go anywhere near my amp. It's not something I've had a problem with before. Is this the norm? Am I used to digital amps? I'm hoping it's just a one-off, and something in the tent is causing the problem. Otherwise... any ideas? I've swapped basses & leads to no avail...
Only issue with this one is that one of the strap buttons has been moved by a previous owner, leaving an unfilled screwhole. These are superb basses - they were highly acclaimed when introduced, won numerous awards, and then Yamaha stopped production (go figure). They were Yamaha's only jazz style bass at the time and sold at a retail of about £800 in the UK (Yamaha's replacement jazz - only avaliable in Asia as far as I know retails for about the same). The nut width is about the same as a Fender B neck. PUPs are humbucking. Electronics are volume/pan/bass(cut/boost)/treble(cut/boost) and a 3 way mid selector which can be set using an internal potentiometer to give boost or cut. Really nice basses (as well as this one I have another pair owned from new). In my opinion these are better basses than any of the Skyline Lakland jazz offerings (yes, I've owned these as well). Any Q's give a shout. Just noticed on the photo's that there looks like there is a big scratch next to the battery compartment - that is just a reflection from the camera. EDIT - forgot to list the price - looking for £215

LOL! Actually I enjoy waiting for new kit to arrive - the feeling that new horizons are about to be exposed ...

You've gone very quiet WOT - what's the verdict?

I'd like to try the Audere, and have a J-Retro lying here - drop me a PM

If it's anythink like the Neo-Pak it'll put a smile on your face. The Genz Benz folks are a really nice bullshit free bunch to deal with. Are you just fed up with your AI?

I think this may have been genuine - I'm fairly sure I recognize the bass.
Someone's about to lose £2,550
I've one of these basses lying here. I ordered it for a friend the last time I ordered a few Jap Fenders from Japan, and he then changed his mind. I should really sell it, but it has suck a nicely figured maple neck I haven't been able to let it go .. By the way, Wymore guitars have the oval hipshots in stock at the moment (they can be quite difficult to get hold of).
I was thinking it was modeled on an older version because of the binding. It does have a spiral bridge too. Nick
This isn't a 62 - it's their version of a '65. And it works just fine without a Badass (or active electronics)! One nice modification is replacing the tuners with oval HB2's. (A spiral bridge is another nice mod.)
I will more than likely Badass it, but im not sure about a J-retro just yet. I have tried the active jazz route and it wasnt really my cup of tea, but i can only base that on my experience with the Marcus Miller pre amp that fender do. I might buy one next month and see how it goes. Well done on the Geddy by the way I love mine. I was looking at the import route and had a few emails with Ishibashi, but John at www.fareastguitars.co.uk said he was expecting this in and as soon as I saw the pics I knew I wanted it. I went to his lastnight and played it for about 30 seconds then bought it. Nick
My new Solo Arrangements book - opinions please!
BB2000 replied to Stuart Clayton's topic in Recording
Stuart, this sounds like it'll be a worthwhile book. One thing I'd say is that I for one would prefer it if all the compositions where for 4 string bass. I've bought books in the past (such as Jimmy Haslip's Jazz standards) which were a real PITA because all the interpretations were for 5 or 6 string bass. Love the little piece of my funny valentine in this medley by the way, although being one of my favourite tunes I'd say it deserves a track by itself! Shades of Jeff Berlin there ...
