  1. Another thing from back then... My dad worked in Dunstable, just a couple of buildings away from the AGFA factory, so he could get mates rates on bulk packs of cassette tapes (remember them?) They did a version of a C90 tape with an extra 3 minutes on each side, so overlength albums would fit onto one side, meaning you didn't have to pick your least favourite tune to lose!
  2. I was 14/15 in 1985, and I was just in the process of moving from being into pop music to being into melodic rock and NWOBHM. Bands like Def Leppard, Saxon and Diamond head were coming onto my radar, followed shortly by the US invasion of the '80s, with Bon Jovi, Skid Row and the like. That's pretty much been me up until about 2010 or so, when I've started to listen to some rap and dance music, but basically If musicians made it, I'm more likely to listen to it.
  3. It's generally Bass-Lead-Amp for me too. Tuner tends to go in a line-out socket. Used to use a bunch of pedals, but not plugged them in for a few years now. A
  4. In fact, the way watts work, a 200W amp would be just over 2dB quieter than a 500W (into the same cab), and only about 4dB quieter than a 700W. The first Watt's the one doing all the work - the rest are just riding on his coat-tails. A
  5. Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
  6. Someone turn the guitarist up a bit - we can't hear his wall of 4x12's over the rest of you!
  7. These guys ought to be required listening for every bass player. Pick any album - they've all got epic tunes on 'em. A
  8. Interesting discovery - the Basschat backroom bots have seen fit to change @$$ to donkey, as evident in the previous post! 😆
  9. You're a bassist man! Your role in the band is to stay out of the limelight and groove your donkey off, making everyone else sound like they know what they're doing, whilst receiving little to no credit for how tight and groovy the whole band sounded. This is our lot. We are bassists, our shoulders are broad, our backs are strong and we can bear these problems with good grace!
  10. Weight wouldn't be an issue here - Mellotrons are floor standing, making it easier for the average bassist rather than harder!
  11. Pansy! If he was any kind of a man he'd have bolted both necks onto a Mellotron and had a triple threat! A
  12. Saturday night fish fry - Louis Jordan
  13. It's in the right town... I just need to talk my old man into collecting it and bringing it up to me next time he visits. Aaaaand paying for it, sadly 😞
  14. The Akai UB-1 Unibass (assuming you can find one!) lets you add a 4th below or a 5th above the note you're playing. You can also add a synthesised octave above your root note, and add a 5th above that, so it becomes like a rhythm guitarist in a box. Admittedly, it lacks the flexibility to play any other chords other than a basic root+5th above your line, but he doesn't miss notes (unless you do) and you don't have to pay him or buy him a pint!
