1. Are they microphonic or just crackly? If they're crackly then head down to your local Maplins and pick up a can of switch cleaner. Squirt a bit into the pots, turn them from end to end a few times and you'll be sorted.

  2. It's really just a large practice amp. It'll get you heard over acoustic instruments, but if there's a drummer involved you're going to struggle.

That said, the older Peavey stuff always seems a lot louder than the wattage would suggest, so give it a shot.

  3.
Do let us know the status of that loose "Fret button" I'm interested...
    Wow, what a bargain tho!
It was a pot that had worked loose! Tightened it up by hand from the front and it works fine!

Overall it's in OK nick, the body's got quite a few little chips and dents in it, but the neck's fine. All it needs is a bloody good clean, some new strings and a setup and it'll be a nice little player - nothing fancy, just a good solid workhorse.

But yeah, quite pleased with that.

Edit: The amp, on the other hand, is utter crap. Didn't really expect anything else though TBH :)

  4. 20W ceramic resistors don't really weigh much at all. A short length of 4mm CSA cable (like you'd run from the input socket to the speaker) probably weighs a fair bit more, and likely moves around a fair bit too, but nobody bats an eyelid about the stresses on those solder joints do they?

  5.
Hi all this is my first post here. I usually think that bass shouldnt be altered or anything but the band "White Denim" has the sickest bass sound Ive ever heared and i want to recreate it. here is a link to the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eYwkkujr5Y.

What pedal should i get to get that sound? and what setting would i use with that pedal. im guessing its a fuzz pedal but i know little about pedals.

    Thanks in advance.
It would help to know what bass and amp you're using, to give people a rough idea of where you're starting from.

For example, you'll never, ever, sound like Marcus Miller if you're playing an EB-0 through an Ashdown combo.

  6.
I secured mine using some small zip ties which keeps them nice and secure. A blob of hot melt glue would probably work well. I wouldn't rely on stiff wiring to keep them secure as they're subject to a lot of vibration.
I'd avoid hot melt glue to secure something that, pretty much by definition, is going to get hot. :)

  7. I've used silicone adhesive to glue resistors directly to the back of piezo drivers in the past. I tend to use the type with aluminium cases like this as they have good solid solder tags to connect the leads to.

  8. As the title says, I'm selling an Ashdown Five-Fifteen combo. It's one of the earlier models, so it's only 65 Watts (as opposed to the later 100 Watters) and covered with carpet rather than Tolex.

Reasonably loud considering its limited power, but it won't hold up at a gig if you're in a loud rock band. Should be OK in a jazz setting, and I imagine it'd be a good amp to use with a DB/EUB, due to its deep and thumpy tone. Basically, if you treat it as a loud practise amp you won't go far wrong.

It has basic 3-band EQ, Gain and Master Output controls, with a switchable Deep preset. Headphone socket and external speaker jacks complete the control panel.

    Anyway, a couple of pics

As you can see, it's a pretty tidy amp in good nick.

I'm after £50 ono, collected from Milton Keynes. I can deliver locally for gas money, but I don't want the hassle of shipping it.

    Thanks for looking.

  9.
Rather than using wooden battens and bracing, would it be possible to use a threaded metal rod to stress opposing panels by pulling them inward toward each other? I guess this rules out lots of designs due to the driver(s) getting in the way of the rod. You'd want the panels joined by the rod at the point where they flex most - slap bang in their centre I would presume. Might mean narrow front, deep cabs!
Bag End do something similar whereby they brace with wooden battens and wedges to push the panels outwards rather than inwards. The idea was to raise the resonant frequency by pre-stressing the panels in a similar way to the skin of an aircraft.
