And the final modification is in place, a tort pickguard. The gold colored one was not bad but this is what I had in mind when I started working on it.

3. This kind of routing I'm always doing with this little handy tool. A milling machine. The University project part I showed is finished and will be built-in in the setup somewhere halfway September.
4. Today I've spent a couple of hours of quality time at my workshop (at work). Milled the cavities for the pickups. And the cavities for the battery box and the controls. Once the neck is finished I'll do the neck pocket.
5. That transition kept bothering me, I could not resist the urge to fix it now. It's not yet fully 100% perfect but now I can simply correct it while sanding the rest of the body.
6. Fretted, I assume 12 strings will already be difficult enough to handle.
7. And some daylight pictures. There are a few funny marks in the plywood, they are really in the wood, you can see them but you don't feel them. It's a pity but I'm not going to do anything about them. The belly cut. I need the refine the transition to the upper horn a little bit but that's something I'll do once I'm going to sand the complete body.
8. Everything will be a lot easier to distinguish once the arm rest and belly cut are done. Maybe tomorrow, if the weather is not too sweaty over here.
9. Done more work on the body, sanded the outer contour and routed the roundover.
10. It's being sold as a Steinberger. My mirror version of yours.
11. Made a set of knobs now that I've got leftovers from to body to make these from. The knobs for the stacked pots are not yet at the right height, I'll determine this size once the pots are mounted in the body.

My second F(ake)ender Jazz Bass V. As it came out of the box 2 months ago. And after all the modifications. It took a while because some parts I needed were not in stock at the shop where ordered them. What I've done to it: - Aligned the tuners. - Aligned the neck. - Widened the string spacing at the bridge. - Made a new pickguard. - replaced the electronics, with stacked knob controls. - (Hidden) proper grounding and shielding.

What I've done to it: - Aligned the tuners. - Aligned the neck. - Widened the string spacing at the bridge. - Made a new pickguard. - replaced the electronics, with stacked knob controls. - (Hidden) proper grounding and shielding. Made two new saddles for E and D strings, they are 3 millimeters wider than the stock ones, 1.5 millimeters on each side, this gives a string spacing of 17.5 millimeters over each string, exactly what I prefer. It's quick and dirty, bur works and once the cover is over the bridge no one will see it.
14. Most of the ordered parts are in, the only things that are still missing are the bass tuners and strings. A forest of clamps, the body layers being glued up.
15. The heavily modified ones. Squier VM jazz: Neck from my other VM, covered the original black inlays with aged mother of pearl inlay-stickers for a lighter and cleaner look, made a new pickguard, swapped the bridge with a Hipshot bridge, rewired to volume-balance-tone and put in two big Chi-Sonic single coils. Westone Thunder I: Everything you can think of - I've done it to this one, Modified the crap out of it over the years, still a great bass! I'm not going to bother with the the slightly modded ones here, that means I can place all my basses in this topic, if you really want to know more about those click here.
16. Finally got the headstock shape right, I got a flash of inspiration after I took a better look at what I did with my 8 string headstock.
17. And today the top for the back arrived at my doorstep. Decided on the wood I'm going to use for the body, khaya mahogany core, three ply birch accent layer between the mahogany and rosewood and of course the rosewood top and back. Re-sawed the body core, straightened the edges of all the layers for gluing and very roughly sawed the body shape. Re-sawed the top for the headstock from a leftover piece of the top.
18. I'm going with the rosewood for the top and back due to the simple fact that the poplar burl is to small for this body design. No problem, the poplar burl will be use for a future mk5 build. The first parts arrived today. The rest of the parts I need are also ordered, once these and the wood for the back are in I can start making sawdust.
19. In due time this will be one of the three places where it will be revealed.
20. Decided on the pickups and preamp I'm going to use and ordered them. - Pickups: Delano SBC 5 HE/S (Set) - Yes, a 5 string set, on the 4 string set they have the sensing area is too small for the width of my string layout. - Preamp: Noll TCM 3 PM - 3 band, parametric midrange.
21. I've been working on the body design, I think it's almost there, I'm not yet sure if I'm fully satisfied with the lower horn shape, for now I'm letting sink in this design and see if I want to do a little more reshaping.
