1. Thanks letts. All my current basses have natural finished on the necks so it's especially good to know! :-)
2. So if I decide that the slight change in action is to be avoided as i do set it low, would there be any harm in regularly readjusting the rod slightly? Put in a more general sense: is there a limit to the regularity of adjustments before the wood gets fed up of being pushed around a goes a little AWOL? Sorry if my question seems a little picky - while im comfortable with sanding, electrics and hardware, truss rods I've never touched as I have always wante to feel 100% sure of things before hand.
3.
Hmmm...I had a Silver Series Squire J that had a rosewood fingerboard and a skunk stripe. Those models were built by the Jap's in the early 90's too I think.
My '92 Silver series jazz has a stripe too. My first ever bass. Still love it!
4. Hi guys, So everytime I play with my band I tune down my bass(es) by half a tone across all strings. A jazz with flats but mainly a streamer $$ 5. My question does not regard playability, as my intonation and action remains fine when I have dropped the tuning, but rather on the health of the neck!! I do not adjust the rod for this even though as soon as I'm home I tend to retune back to standard straight away. So I ask the more experienced heads: am I doing the right thing? Or should I tweak I slightly each way every time I retune? I never thought of the tension change as much but recently saw a comment or two that made me think twice and naturally I want to keep my axes in good stead! Cheers for the help, Ash
5.
The pups do look like they are on steroids! I liked the look, but can see how it may not be for everyone.
Yeah I did actually have that sole reservation before buying myself as I was in two minds about the look. But love or hate it: it's simply the only way to get that range of pup configs available on one bass - which for a workhorse is ideal for those who need to cover different styles.
6. I remember steaming after one of these as a skint student when they came out. I have a feeling the new owner will be smiling!
7.
Really lookin at the $$'s simply due to versatility
My sentiments exactly. The only reason I whip out my jazz live for my current gigs is because of the flats on it! The $$s simply have all the tricks up their sleeves. Plus mines a great player which is a bonus!
8. Hiya guys, I'm finding using my fairly newly acquired BDDI pedal unit (which I bought for DI'ing in the studio) great for live and would recommend as a stomp box to dial in up to 6 tonal options to switch between when live. I'm running it as part of my pedal set up before my amp as well as PA as I prefer the sound of my amp with the BDDI essentially as a kind of warm-up pre. I should note that my streamer I use live has a 3 band pre itself so I have to be careful with settings for settings if you know what I mean or it could get messy. The question in this post is 'do you think this is a good way to work'? not looking for justification: it's working for me at the moment and will keep experimenting. Was just really wondering if people are using units like these a lot as part of the boards? I don't tend to see them used in that format all that much.
9. Fully endorse this bass as a model. I have an '08 Streamer $$ 5 which plays beautifully and has tonal options galor thanks to the switchable wiring of each pup, the EQ and the blend. As a personal preference I swapped out the MEC pre with an OP-3 as I prefer the frequencies of the OP-3 and wanted control of my mids on the bass itself but otherwise it's perfect for me along side my thumb and jazz with flats. Anyone considering the buy: take it from a fellow owner - it's a corker!
10. Agree about the playfulness being a good thing! It certainly ain't snooty lookin' I just appreciate manufacturers sticking their neck out a little with some bold designs. Yeah as bass players we tend to like a few set formats with regards to looks but I appreciate this as something very fresh. Plus I guess it's great for keeping up brand profile as it's got us all talking!
11.
Have to say doesn't this prove what some of us (myself included) believe. Woods mean NOTHING to tone and that it is all in the p/ups and electrics?
Can of Worms Alert!
12. Hi J, Sorry to hear of your misses falling ill bro, thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery! Ash
13. for those who haven't seen them... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=210318625646406&set=a.161943097150626.37513.148172415194361&type=1&permPage=1 What d'all think? I think they look pretty beautiful. But would I own one?? hmmm polarised feelings on that one. I think yes tho :-/ As far as I have seen its an original idea...? Pretty cool stuff either way. Especially seeing as you can order your own choice of finishes/es/es/es/es! (at what cost I don't really want to know: Ignorance is safety in this case lol) Ash
14. Very nice David! If anyone doesn't already know: buy with confidence from Dave. I bought an SR1000 from him and he was a treat to deal with and packaged it like a new born baby!
15.
So many variables there is only one way to find out I guess.
Yeah that's the view I've started to take with regards to the sound of sets. How they feel of course is a lot less subjective and won't vary from bass to bass. Interesteing to hear of stickiness. Do you guys mean a feeling similar to the natural friction you get with flats? I tend t whack fast fret on my LaBellas if I need to play some quickish lines.
16. I have been playing a streamer $$ 5 for the last 6 months as my main axe which I bought 'as new' for £1250. I payed this price as it is mint condition and VERY hard to find on the second hand market. Most of us know the price of these new and tbh I think someone needs to pay the fella a lil more than he's askin as a good will gesture as he's clearly in a spot to be sellin it at this price. Cant believe this sale thread has held out for so long. Absolute madness. If they're anything like the streamers they're awesome basses. Someone wake up and smell the coffee for cryin out loud!
17.
Asking Price was 1250eur which imo seems to be a bargin! /M
Got yourself an excellent deal in my book. Lovely bass: enjoy!
18. Done a trade-up with Marcus the other day, my jazz plus cash for his thumb. Plus buying a boss tu-3 from him. Top, honest bloke easy to communicate with and wouldn't hesitate to recommend any dealings with him based on my very positive experience with him!
19. Lovely. If I hadn't bought my '89ish fact. FL SR1000 a couple months back I'd be jumping all over this. My pair of wicks would most definately had a sibling arriving as like most Warwick owners I feel a bit feverish with the warwick bug! Alas. Unless your interested in a trade for another fretless? Very slim neck of course being an SR.
20.
Thanks molan and paulie for the kind comments! The Sadoswky is on HOLD
Not at all surprised. She's a beauty. Would like to ring out a few notes on it!
21. This is quite simply one of my very favourite records. Ever. That man had a magic.
22. Just out of interest how much did this go for? the price has been X'd out from the original post. Also I recommend you put on the title that the bass is now sold.
23. Bought a SR1000 fretless from David and he was great, Easy to communicate with, swift dispatch, extreme care taken in packing the bass up safely and was also helpful with an after sale query I had regarding the bass. Would not hesitate to recommend dealings with the gentleman.
