1. Sterling effort guys! wow my tupence: + very attractive, clean, clear information, forced price stating a very good thing etc, very interesting new features especially the powerful search filters! - as has been said - a little apprehensive about the 'questions' tab being in place of the normal communications from the standard forum format. Maybe if his could be opened up in a new window to show the posts full screen and can participate there? If I wouldn't be a big fan of it remaining in a small box with scrolling.
2. Yeh I removed all the laquer (save of course of the front of the head) then I applied the linseed heavily with a yellow duster cloth, let it sit for 10 minutes then buffed it for a solid 5 minutes (again with a yellow duster) Feels like a new bass now! even if my misus is wondering where all the yellow dusters are disappearing to!

4. Put some fresh sunbeams on it and it's playing MUCH better with the old finish off Smooth natural feel that I was looking for. I may whack on a second coat to see if that seals up the wood a little more as it still feels very virgin and I don't want it to get mashed as its a great neck!
5. Btw: for the attention of anyone who hasn't been down denmark st for a while - wunjos have actually opened a bass only shop 2 doors down from their guitar shop so have a much better collection than they used to before. Still not a patch on bass gallery but since the cellar closed down they're now the only two dedicated bass shops I know of in central. Also, a little off topic: have any londoners been to guitar guitar in Epson? It's not far from me but I never knew it was there until I recently went for my jap 57 P ri and was very impressed with their collection! Not a massive variation on makes: mainly fender, with G&L Ernie Ball, ibanez, etc. and some others dotted around such as sadawsky etc. So not the same make variation you'll find in the gallery but a very impressive collection none the less! Plus the guys were alright too
6.
Also a visit to the Bass Gallery is a must.
I completely second this. It's only a few stops on the tube and it'd be worth a much longer trip: serious collection of good quality basses, whether you want I spend £100 or a few grand, and lack of the usual bad attitude you'll tend to find elsewhere: you can feel free to ask to try any bass without pressure. Plus theres two top luthiers on site to answer an tech questions. PM me when you're coming down man, I always like an accuse to visit BG and I could meet you at Camden town tube and show you the way
7. Hi all, Up for sale is my as new mint sansamp programmable BDDI deluxe. No problems just want to try something different. Comes in box with manual. Has Velcro on the back. For those that aren't savvy with this unit some features are in the following link: http://www.tech21nyc...sdriverdlx.html Ash
8. hi again guys, First of all, thanks for all your useful comments!!! So I finally got around to finishing off the sanding and putting a layer of oil on. I picked up some raw linseed oil from a local hardware store. I did one coat then buffed it and have now put the bass back together. My initial impression after it has settled down is that it is very natural in feel, perhaps a little too much. I'm thinking a second coat? Or will this not change much in your experiences? Ash
9. hmmmmm anyone got any idea where to find these? They don't actually seem to be in the warwick shop at all :-/
10.
it's a p bass.... what you doing out of the first position???/
Ha! Nice one
11. Hi Lozz, Glad to see another happy owner. Once I have the frets in top order I'm gonna push some air with this thing man! Can't wait in the mean time I just avoid the high G# on the D string! lol
12.
it would have probably had a one ply white scratchplate and been a '57ri.
Thanks luke, and thanks again for fingiering this bass for me! Pure white or that more vintage minty one?
13. Cheers steve! That's the most serious P collection I believe I've ever come across my man! A man in love it would seem Btw do you have any idea how I could find out what re-issue 'year' this model is? It was just advertised as 50s and the guys in store couldn't tell me more.
14. Hi Guys, A fellow BCer was good enough to point this out to me which was on sale at a store near me. They received the bass on a part-ex and I managed to get a half decent price on it a couple of days ago. Any gaps in details that need filling or corrections are encouraged on this one! It's a 93/94 Japanese (late)50s re-issue ie. not the Tele shape. 2 tone burst and with a red tort guard instead of the original. It's a Q serial. First the bad: The bass had some old black nylon strings on and the truss rod completely disengaged so over the past couple nights I have teased the rod back into a more sensible position. The bass may also need a little fret TLC which I will have to take to a luthier for. Also the 'finish' on the head has lifted around the decal and the end of the head. The last issue with condition is some slight cracking in the finish, which is nearly invisible even close up but you can feel if you run your hand along the back of the bass. This isn't correlative with the wood joins so I'm sure it's just where the wood expanded, going from cold to hot environments at some point and has resettled as opposed to any movement between joins. The bass now has some Labella Flats on and the neck is in pretty good shape. Action is now near where I want it but I reckon it needs a little fret levelling in the highest few frets after which I could bring it down a little more to it's sweet spot. The bass sounds and looks fantastic. Classic P thump which I've hankered after recently (never had a P before for whatever reason). Sounds incredibly organic - lovely passive tone especially when digging in. I must say that in the store I compared it to a new US standard and it was a no brainer! the Jap re-issue was just a whole other sound (much fuller and a heavier low mid punch) and had a much more classic look and feel which is what I was looking for: nice simple 2 tone burst and yellow maple neck. I plan on grabbing a white/mint guard as well as a black one to switch up. Wouldn't normally go for a red tort guard but it actually works well I reckon. Most importantly I'm looking forward to trying it out in a band context! Btw: if anyone has any idea about how the headstock blemishes could be dealt with that would be great! There seems to be a film that has lifted in the two areas as is pictured. when a finger is runover them it presses down but does not stay. What is that film? something to protect the decal?? :-/ I'm confused. Anyway - lovely bass - my 1st P - a cracker - I'm happy - thought I'd share Time for the important bits... 15. Hmmm I suppose it is an unusual situation for someone to find themselves in!
16.
Japanese Squier precision going on ebay for pennies http://www.ebay.co.u...190741789250%26
Cheers man! I got into a sniping war on it but got pipped to the post! Alas. Anyway time to let this thread do what it was made to do: get that lovely SB jazz shifted. Whoever a considering the purchase, take it from an owner: lovely bass - you'll be more than pleased!
17. Not gonna lie: if this was a P bass I'd have to work something out! Alas I can't get away with owning a second jazz of the exact same model!
18. Hi Pal, Judging by your serial number that's a 93-94. There aren't many of these that come up so it's a steal for anyone looking for a good jazz without spending a £600+ tag. I've got an oly white one from 92-93. My first bass. And a superb bass really. I don't know about other people who have known these hands on, but if yours plays anything like mine then I'd say it is undervalued at this price as opposed to the other way round. I know I wouldn't sell mine for £290, but then it is sentimental as well. All the best with the sale mate!
19. Hi all, So basically I was given these gold Warwick straplocks as a favour by the fellas at Bass Gallery for my Streamer and my Thumb. Thing is that the Streamer is now out the door so I'm only using it with my Thumb which has all blackhardware. So the deal is: my Gold locks for your Black ones. (to clarify: JUST the part that attaches to the strap - not the attachments on the bass itself) Items are in good condition as you can see from the photo so I'd be looking for a pair without any significant wear. Cheers, Ash
20. Couldn't find a feedback topic for Jordan aka trtzbass Profile: http://basschat.co.uk/user/7373-trtzbass/ Sold my Fretless SR1000 to him today. Lovely guy, Plus he's promised me a free double bass lesson! What more could you want from a sale. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
