  1. I've got a 500 watt obt which I love the sound of and play through a barefaced compact. For most gigs (mostly pubs) I've barely pushed it above 3 on the master vol. My problem is for home use it is too loud so I'm getting tempted by a Genz shuttle 6.0 or 6.2 due the lower wattage at 8 ohm and the practice amp friendly features of headphone out and aux in and still having the tube pre. I've heard good things but have never tried one.

Has anyone tried the obt next to the Genz and what are your thoughts?

Other thought is a cheap practice amp.

    Cheers steve

  2. From the brief play ive had its a bit like an agressive stingray but half the weight and more versetile. Pu is coil tappable and has a boost switch as well as the eq.

This one has had the bartolini quad coil replaced with a seymour duncan quarter pounder so may not sound like all growlers but its ace.

  3. Received this lovely Tobias Growler today, arrived safely in the post from Spain from JuliusMonk of this parish (pleasure to deal with)!

Lovely bass to replace my Stingray and I'd wanted a 4 string Tobias as I had to use my sons name as an excuse to let off a bit of GAS! Plays great, weighs nothing and sounds like a monster, just like my son (except the weight!). I just need to get my head around the switches.

  4. Bought a Tobias Growler from Carlos. Excellent communications, quick dispatch, all as described (actually better condition than described), well packaged and arrived safely from Spain to Bristol. I'd happily deal with Carlos again, deal in confidence. Top bloke.

    All the best

    Steve

  5. Part 2 of the saga is that my strings arrived yesterday, so ive got to play it and passive it sounds great but the active circuit doesnt work.

The tone controls are loose so that may have something to do with it but all the wires look intact and the light comes on when you flick the active/passive switch. I've tried turning the plastic screw in the metal box to no avail. Is there anything else to check? Cheers

  6. I always had a soft spot for them and the b2s back in the early 90s. I needed a cheap back up bass and saw this. It needs a bit of love and came with no strings which I'm just waiting on strings direct to deliver. Once I've got it working ill stick ip some pics.

  7. I picked up a Hohner Jack yesterday which needs a bit of tlc. Im waiting for some strings before I can try it properly but when I put a new battery in for the active circuit there is a rectangular metal box next to where the battery goes. It has a plastic crosshead screw in it and I've not seen in a bass before. It may be a stupid question but does any one know what it is/does? Thanks

  8. Stopped for about 18 years. Played loads (all be it not that great) in my teens. Couldnt find a band at uni and just stopped playing and got into other stuff. Id sold everything except my old yamaha bb1100s and was on the verge of selling that 3 years ago when I started playing it again and really enjoyed it. Now enjoying my band gigging fairly often and am a better player than I ever was in my youth (although still rough round the edges).

  9. I think bristol is blessed with some good shops. I always find the guys in pmt and micelburgh (? Spelling) friendly and helpful and let you try stuff without being pushy. Rikaxxe can either be helpful or a bit wierd though ive had some odd conversations in there. Heron and treblerock and emis are good the interesting 2nd hand stuff and electric ladyland is probanly the most unique shop in the country. Plenty of choice and mostly good service.
