Any Wilts / Somerset / Dorset people fancy the bass after me so we can get it towards Tom Skool in Weymouth, who has said he'd like it on the main thread. I won't be able to get that far south for a bit but happy to deliver it to you in the Bristol / Bath / West Wilts area if needed.

Saturday 25th October. Be good to see as many of you West Country bcers especially as Raymondo of this parish is driving all the way from Nottingham to bring me the batton and visit the metropolis of Trow vegas. Come along and keep him company and you can have the next go on the relay too if you want!

I recently got a BB1100s and I think it a cracking bass. Active/passive, P and J set up.

+1
Ive had my bb1100s for over 20 years and its the bass I always come back to. Played alongside gibsons, fenders, stingrays tobias and others 3 or 4 times the value and it holds its own or beats the pants off them for a fraction of the cost. Best value basses out there! -
We'll see what we can sort once I've got it next weekend. It feels like the bass is heading back to the south coast again towards Jim in pompey.

Raymondo is legend travelling across the country to see us and visit Trowbridge an experience he may cherish or regret! Be good to see as many west country bcers as possible and if any one wants a hand over at the White Swan or I can deliver it easily in the Bristol/Bath/Wilts area although I may not drive as far as Ray!
Cheers steve -

I'm happy to take the bass if it comes down near Bristol. Cheers

If you are in East Bristol next Saturday 11th come and see Black Dog Company play a mix of origionals and covers at the Portcullis Staple Hill. Be good to see you.

One of my favourite bass lines ever. The ox at his best.

What is a cheap bass?
Most of the basses listed here seem to be bargains rather than cheaply made. My yamaha bb1100s wouldn't sell for much more than £250 now but will happily keep up with basses over a grand.
No one is mentioning the old jap crap eg kay antoria etc which has a certain charm. I had an antoria sg bass for a bit and it had a cool tone I just couldn't get on with the short scale neck. -
I recently picked up a Tobias Growler from here (this one -http://basschat.co.uk/topic/245036-nbd-tobias-growler/page__pid__2555539#entry2555539).
I knew when I bought it that the pu had been changed for a seymour duncan quarter pounder mm style instead of the origional bartolini quad coil but this has meant that one of the tone circuits and boost switches has been disconnected from the pre amp. In looking to bring it back to its full functionality I have just bought a bart quad coil pu from ebay but have 3 questions before I take it to be fitted.
1. Has anyone compared these 2 PUs to give advice one tone differences
2. Has anyone got a wiring diagram for a growler? Ive googled it with little success and other people seem to have had no luck from gibson or bartolini.
3. Mine only has 1 9v battery rather than 2 so Im not sure if the preamp has been changed too or whether that is a result of the pu change. Hopefully the a wiring diagram will help with that.
Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help.

Ballroom blitz. Did a dep for our drummers orher band and they do it. Great song to play and goes down a storm.

Thanks

Buy one or other 2nd hand and give it a proper go, if you dont like it you should be able to move it on without losing much money amd try something else. You never get the the right sound in a shop trying them out.
-
Nice pun. But thats what I'm trying to gather. Are they poles apart in terms of tone considering as I understand both have a tube pre (although more tubes in the orange) and class d power amp. As I say never tried a genz but curious about them.
-
Ok got it turn the volume low!
The main thing I wanted to know from this is how a shuttle compares to an obt. As said I like the sound of the obt but have heard good things about shuttle/streamliners and like the idea of smaller size and additional features like aux in etc.
Ta -
Good idea hadn't thought of that. Thanks
-
It does yes and I do do that.
I think I phrased the question badly at first. Essentially I have gas for a genz head and want to know how they compare to an obt. I've heard good things about them but have never played one.
The other point is that its probably not volume thats my problem its the low end that comes out of the obt and bf compact even at low vols that I get moaned about from my family (especially with kids in bed). I get fed up with headphone practice so I think a small practice amp will do for that amd a quick look on gumtree has found a few bargains locally.
Cheers for the comments so far.
Hohner The Jack Headless Bass SOLD
in Basses For Sale

Hohner The Jack headless bass for sale which dates from the late 80s / early 90s.
BC Only price drop to £170 plus postage
I bought this about a month ago as a back up bass with no stings a broken pre amp and badly set up. This has now all been professionally fixed, cleaned and now plays beautifully and I am very tempted to keep it, but I have just bought another bass which means that this is now surplus to requirements.
There are a couple of minor dents on the front which you can only see when you look closely and a couple of scuffs on the back which you would expect for a bass of this age. As far as I know it is all origional and it is strung with a set of Bass Centre Elites 45-105. It sounds great bass in with 2 powerful J pickups and a 2 band active eq. The only other slight issue to note is that the tuners are little stiff, especially on the G string but all work ok.
Photos at : https://www.dropbox.com/sc/u1a99h7mdy71lfm/AABLmc0em9XjY_CvfUBxxVjva Sorry not the greatest quality but its a very reflective bass.
I am happy to post at buyers cost and risk (approx £20) and the bass will be bubble wrapped inside its padded gig bag and then put in a strong box and sent by insured courier. I am also open to offers and possibly trades/px but it has to be very tempting as I would much prefer a straight sale.
You are welcome to try it and please let me know if you have any other questions.
Cheers
