1. Hi Blood... Yes, no problem... There's a thread entitled "honeys trial set", (it's currently the first unpinned topic)... could you add a post there saying something like "me too" - it just helps keep things in order so people know who's up next. (looks like there's probably about a 6 week wait at the moment) Cheers, Daf
2. Hi Allan, Done! yeh, you're going to find quite a jump tension-wise after the whackers! You might as well try the lot as you're here so may I suggest the super silvers, as well as the ultrablacks too?! Cheers, Daf
3. Hi Allan, Good question! Well, yes, tension is probably the biggest factor; so the ultras, which are basically a higher tension version of the Rockabillies will be louder, and the same goes for super silvers which are a higher tension silver slap (don't write them off because it says "slap" - its a really nice pizz string) The other factor is how it cuts through a mix - the ultra/rockabilly has s a darker sound than the super/slap but arguably has more mids which may help cut through, though the super/slaps have more top end.... (So It could even come down to the range of the instruments you're playing with!) I see you've signed up to try the honeys too - I think that's a good move; volume wise they'll be up there too, but as they're all such different strings, trying them yourself is really the only way to be sure! One last thing - if you do plan on doing any arco you really should go for a metal wrap... (I.e. honey/braid) it will make life much easier! Hope that helps, Cheers, Daf
4. My pleasure... And no obligation... to anybody!
5. Hi Keith, Funny you should ask that! I'd just PM'd Geoff to offer a tryout of my spare. It's actually out with someone at the mo. but I should get it back on 20th so I'll send it up to you then.(Geoff has declined for now - he may have a look later in the year.) if anyone else is interested in giving it a try please feel free to PM me. Cheers, Daf
6. Geoff, you have a PM... Hope you'll excuse the shameless plug!... But if anyone is interested in the Ehrlund, please PM me! Cheers, Daf
7. Certainly! I'll report back as soon as I've checked them out.
8. I'm meeting Richard in about a week and he's going to bring the string with him for me to take a proper look... My first thought was the same as yours, but apparently the tone of the string has gone as well, so there would seem to be something else going on... I trust you've not had an issue with the sound going off...? (Other than the natural loss of top end over time) Cheers! Daf
9. oh, wow! .... I'm right behind alyctes and ubassman....
10. Yeh, I've been meaning to start an identifier thread and post some pics on the innovation section, but never got round to it.... So seeing as you've actually done it, I'll get my arse in gear and post them on your thread - once I get back from my week off... (Don't tell the missus I'm on here, she'll kill me! )
11. Ooh! Thank you for that!
12. Ah! Yes... Good point! I'm not sure about the melting point, particularly of the honey core - not really something that comes up
13. Just a guess, but could it have been a phase thing? When one wing of the bridge is going up the other is going down, so perhaps you were just at that point on the stage where the wave was at its peak, so by switching to the other wing you inverted that and cut the feedback..., if you see what I mean...
14. Interesting ideas chaps... I'm wondering if this might be useful for the innovation test sets - the silks can be a bit fragile anyway, and they obviously do take quite a hammering as they get passed around...
15. Hi Steve, Yes, of course; I'll add you to the list. There's a thread entitled "super silvers trial set", (about 9th or 10th down) could you add a post there saying something like "me too" - it just helps keep things in order so people know who's next. Ta! Daf
16. Oh dear... I've sent another message this afternoon - hopefully I'll have better luck...
17. Oh yes! can't believe I didn't spot that! Pete, In case you're unfamiliar with the options, the slaps are similar to your supers but lower tension; whereas the honeys are a metal wound string designed for jazz which will probably have a similar tension to your supers, but are a much thinner string and will sound quite different. Cheers, Daf
