1. I've sat on the fence with this for so long my gooch is full of splinters!! I've experimented with flats a few times and I've loved it for a couple of months, then gone back to rounds, then back to flats and so on... I've only ever tried Rotosounds and the thing that puts me off of those is the tension. They felt great in C standard though!! Could anyone recommend a flatwound that's good for rock and won't turn your fingerboard into a ski jump?
 2.
Another thing I forgot to mention regarding payment - as it comes via the agent through the admin organisation of the business owning the venue, it can be/is a lot slower than being handed a wad of £20 notes @ the end of the night! This may also be worth consideration?
Same scenario with Walkabout gigs. You're right though, it is a pain. That and you can't smell a bank transfer, at least not a good one!
But what about the out of season 60s/70s/80s/Tributes/Rock n Roll weekenders. Been looking for a way into them lately, are they run by the camps or outside promoters, and is all of it agency work ?
That sounds more interesting!! The gig we were offered was through an agency, as I believe all of the season gigs are. Not sure about these though, and I wouldn't know where to ask. I'll pass the thought on and I'll let you know if I can find out
 3.
a particularly lovely & stacked BC (EDIT Bluecoat not Basschat ) took part and was across that swamp and starkers in seconds flat Happy days
A definite PRO!!
 4.
Pros: Regular work Short set (we only play for an hour as you're a component of the evening's entertainment programme) In house PA Cons: Lots of hanging about (we have to be set up & soundchecked before 6 but don't play till about 9.30 - 10ish due to afore mentioned entertainment programme) Required etiquette is similar to weddings as opposed to pub gigs (ie a more professional approach is needed but not a problem if you're already used to it) Agent will take their cut (these types of gig are always done through agencies)
We do quite a few weddings so we're used to these cons. You're right though, they are a pain, especially agency fees
 5.
Expect lots of kids running around all over the place and parents not giving a cr*p about it. Alos parents getting exceptionalty drunk. Go for 80s party tunes such as Wham or Black Lace. Agadoo for the kids. And if you get the whole room on the floor singing We Are Sailing...
All things that we're concerned about!! Don't knock it til you try it I suppose! I'd be up for doing these gigs if the money is right. If they work out no better than weddings after travel etc then I'd be inclined not to. Hopefully we'll get more weddings
 6. My wedding band is thinking about branching out into the Holiday Camp circuit... We were offered a gig at Butlins Minehead but rejected it due to short notice and current lack of appropriate material. Learning suitable songs is no problem for us, we're more concerned about how worthwhile they would be, especially with having to travel from Cornwall... is it worth it? Does anybody here have experience of holiday camp gigs? Are they worth it? All advice would be greatly appreciated
 7. Cheers, well let me know when you're gigging so that I can wax my balls
 8. One thing to take note of fellas, ladies love a good fingering technique They're not so keen on picks though, but busting out some hot licks will soon win them over
 9. I will be playing with Empire of Fools (not sure what time yet but will post) any other BCers playing or attending??
 10. Btw highwayone, here is a thread that may interest you
 11.
I use an MXR M-80 for pretty much the same thing. Very handy to have one pedal that can give a bit of grit, EQ and is a DI as well.
+1 I use my DHA VT-1 EQ for that. My advice would be to play around with your Multi-effects first to see which effects you need/want/like. My first effects unit was my Korg AX3000B which is being picked up and delivered to pasteurs new this week! Now I have just ordered another, smaller multi-fx in the Zoom B3 which I will use for all the more outlandish effects which I may need once or twice in a set and will fit on my pedalboard without necessitating buying loads more pedals. Have fun!
 12.
What's all this 'I don't mind people using picks' and 'I'm OK with people using picks' and 'Sure, use a pick if you like'? I'm not asking anyone for permission! I don't give two SHlTS who thinks it's OK or not for me to use a pick! And that's swearing. Get laminated, you perverted fingery freaks! I'll do what I damn well like!!
^ THIS.
 13. SOLD!!
MB1. P.S.....".Happy (Not Local) Birthday!...Hope you get lots of Precious Things!"
It wasn't at all bad thanks! Didn't do a lot really, just had some fish cakes
 14.
Sure..but that is why they end up there as they aren't good for too much else...
Yep, Trace Elliots suck.
 15.
These chaps turn up a lot in practice rooms round this way, and to be brutally honest I find them really hugely underpowered and underwhelming, to the point of struggling to keep up with a drummer not using knitting needles and a guitarist with rawk in mind. May just be me though.....
Probably a practice-room-amp thing. I always found similar with the Trace Elliot's at college. Public rehearsal rooms are gear graveyards!
 16. Thanks for the input guys Think I'll treat myself to a birthday bump
 17.
A pick is sometimes necessary for certain styles where dynamics aren't important.
Dynamics are always important! If you can't play quietly with a pick then you can't be a real bass player...
 18.
http://secondlife.com/
Oh the irony!
 19. £100 delivered?! BARGAIN!! I've used mine as an overdrive, tone enhancer/preamp/EQ and now as a DI and it does all of these things extremely well. Someone will get a fantastic deal here mate
 20.
Get a life
Can you get one for £460? With some change preferably
 21. Balls!! Took me sosososo long to read the thread that I missed the auction! Guess I'll be taking my £460 to the pub to drown my sosososorrows then
 22. Just had a look at the link and on the Twatter feed someone put down *choke* "Seven Nation Army"
 23.
What..? Slade, or picks?
Damn, beat me to it!!
 24. Bump. Hoping to avoid the dreaded Bay of death!
 25. From my experience using a HA3500, you need to twiddle with the EQ quite a bit for the best sound (all subjective of course). Although this one was the resident rig as a jam night, some nights it sounded fantastic and full and others it sounded thin and twangy. I find it a tad on the plonky side too, but I think again this is down to EQ. I'd buy one in a heartbeat for the right price though!
