1. I’ve just played the BSX Allegro in public for the first time, at a London blues jam. First time I played any upright in public actually. I think I did the right thing holding off on this for 15 months. Not only did nobody remark on the bum notes (there were a few) but I lost count of how many people, friends and strangers, made a point of coming over to tell me how great it sounded. Feeling pretty chuffed, actually My mild concerns over the sound evaporated (It can sometimes sound a bit 'quacky' through headphones). Despite taking with me a Pandora PX4B all set up to knock out loads of top-end, I stupidly forgot the extra cable and so had to plug it straight into the PA. It sounded great. Good result all round I think. Andy (Pics HERE if you haven't seen it)
 2. Have a bump on me ... can't understand why nobody wants this. Graphite-necked status for a smidgen over £400 ? Bargain ! Lovely walnut body too. Andy
 3.
I got mine from http://www.gollihurmusic.com as i couldn't find any in the UK worked out OK as i avoided Duty.
Thanks ... that's where I did most of my reading
 4.
I have stuck this on the dreaded Ebay ...
I hadn't heard of Eurosonic strings till I saw your listing on eBay ... having read a bit about them I'm quite interested. Are they easy to get hold of in the UK ? Where did you get them ? (If you you don't mind me asking, and taking this thread off-topic.) Andy
 5.
my status knowledge is limited, but that seems very strange to me
Just taken a look at the 'old site' LINK. Looks to me like all the graphite thru-necks share a similar neck to mine. No proof I know. If mine DOES have a truss rod adjustment it's very well hidden ... like in a pickup cavity perhaps, or under the bridge. I've never looked.
 6.
As the good Doctor says, all the Status graphite necks have had a dual-way truss rod since the late 80's. Rich.
I don't think so. unless I'm mistaken somewhere. My mid/late 90's Eclipse Ltd is trussrodless. Though maybe the Eclipse ltd was the only one in the range like that.
 7. Looks verrrrry nice Headstock under the bendwell looks scarily thin, but I'm sure Rob knows what he's doing. Can't spot the ramp in the pictures ... maybe I'm expecting the wrong thing. Are they referring to that extra bit of fingerboard with no frets ? Andy
 8.
Cheers Andy my lovely girlfriend actually paid for the repair as a birthday present so I don't really know the exact price but quite cheap I think!
You jammy so-and-so
You didn't get the one on ebay did you, someone saw another Golden Strad?
Got mine in May last year, so probably not the one you're talking about.
 9.
New pics
Nice one. I've just been doing some guesswork about the cost of your repairs, and I wouldn't be surprised if the total cost of your fixed bass is pretty much the same as what I paid for for my (incredibly cheap, beaten up) upright before fixes. And I still need to cough up for strings, new bridge and replacement endpin to match the state of yours. You lucky b*****d ! Andy
 10.
... taking the big one thru to a guy in Edinburgh tomorrow he sounds like an excellent guy so fingers crossed!
Keep us posted
 11.
On that basis, to fix it it all, in a way that made economic sense, meant doing it without taking the top off. So that's what he did.
And it cost a lot less than the £400 you were quoted elsewhere. My girlfriend guessed you got that lot from the barras when I said Glasgow market
 12.
To repair a crack in the top, the top has to come off!
Not necessarily. I had similar cracks (considering size and the criticality(?) of the position) in my cheap and beaten-up upright. So my issue was similar to yours, in fact the luthier when he first saw it did the sums ... the cost of his fix (assuming taking the top off) + plus what I paid was more than an identical model bass that he had up for sale. On that basis, to fix it it all, in a way that made economic sense, meant doing it without taking the top off. So that's what he did. Shame you're not in London, I could point you in the direction of the guy that did the job. Cheers, Andy
 13.
I contacted Rob about an Electro earlier this year and he informed me he was revisiting the design. Moved the mag pickup and a new EQ. Some work to do on the bridge pickup.
Thanks for the info and pic
 14.
I'm down at the factory again next Thursday so I'll bring back all the rumours and goss then! Hopefully will get to see the mk2 KingBass as well.
I can see you're getting a lot of requests for info here ... hope you don't mind me asking another. I heard rumours a while back that Rob was refusing to build Electros either because the model was being revamped, or perhaps because it needed a revamp. Any news on that would be much appreciated. (I'm hoping to hear about a bass with larger acoustic chambers). If that's too many requests and mine drops off the end of the list, no problems. Cheers, Andy
 15.
This is my status Not my photos, so sorry to Rumble and the previous owner for using these photos
Smashing bass ! I really think the Eclipse shape (with contoured top, bevelled edges, not sure if I have the right name for it) is one of the nicest bass shapes ever, and yours is particularly sweet in natural woods. Andy
 16.
What issue number /100 is it? (Should say on the back of the headstock.)
It's 46. But not sure how much that means, since I've seen another 46/100 on fleabay and that was a 4-banger. I'm sure some one told me there were 50 4's and 50 5's, each series numbered 1-50. I can't verify that though. Andy
 17.
That Eclipse Ltd is/was gorgeous! Is this one you've sold on?
No I still own all 3. (When I said 'previous owner' I meant I only have photos taken by the previous owner to me). However the Eclipse Ltd is a bit of an odd one in my collection ... if someone was to make me an offer I couldn't refuse , I'd probably part with it. Currently gassing for an F-bass BN5 fretless so the funds would help
 18.
Hey BigBeatNut, good to see you! That S1 has a lovely flamed top Are you going to show us the others, then?
You've twisted my arm .... previous owner photos coming up. Electro(-1) And Eclipse Ltd
 19. Here's a shot of my S1 fretless ... I'm going to need to get the camera out before I can show you the others. Liking all the king basses I'm seeing here
 20. I'm considering buying a Roland GR-20 synth, combined with a Yamaha BB-604 bass (I think) already fitted with a GK-3B pickup. I've tried this combo in the shop and it seems fine. It surprised me that there were no tracking issues. Single notes and fifths worked fine as did major triads, though minor triads got a bit iffy (lowest note was pitched a fret too high). Also didn't notice any latency which was where I expected it might really fall down. Has to be said though, I was not playing along with any other instruments. Seems that the unit both has plenty of sounds of its own, and will let me drive other midi units through the midi out. What are your experiences with the GR-20 and/or GK-3B ? Andy
 21.
Also, these things are big, will one fit into a VW Golf ?.
Lots of DB/Car advice HERE. I guess if it'll fit in a Micra, then it'll fit in a Golf ? Andy
 22. Okay, here are mine. Lakland HB Status Electro DeArmond Starfire
 23. I have a bass or two that needs adding here May have to wait till I get home. In the mean time, I think you guys would probably want to take a peek at the Hollowbody bass club over on TB. Andy
 24. Thanks for all the input. Haven't made a decision yet, but I'm leaning towards a small estate for ease of loading. Cheers, Andy
 25.
I had mine in a loan Micra while my Mondeo was being repaired. No problem.
I really have problems picturing how this works ... does the neck finish up in the passenger footwell or something ? Anyway ... seems there are two votes here for estates, which is kind of where I thought I'd finish up. Love to see a picture of a DB in something as small as a micra Andy
