1. Got my 1515L today- with the Schroeder 1212L and my Marshall VBA 400 the sound is exactly what I want- clear, punchy- deep and LOUD!! To loud really but I like headroom- cab is even lighter than the 1212L- shame the marshall is so heavy but it sounds GOOD- my best bass sound- ever!! Even at low volumes- gets better the louder it is- recommended. cheers Bob
2. I am in a 7 piece soul / funk band and whilst we have a good compact pa- 1100w we use that mainly for vox, a little keys and brass- maybe the kick drum. evrything else is coming straight from the backline- you can get a good sound in like 100-200 audience numbers. It just takes time- and you dont have the control you would with a sound man-I have used loads of different bass rigs and think you need at least 300W with a good cab - at present I have 2 rigs- Markbass LM11 and Schroeder 1212L- you dont need anymore than this!! My other rig is a Marshall VBA 400 and Scroeder 1212L and 1515L- pure overkill!! cheers Bob
3.
How about the Gallien Krueger Neo 112-II's? Seem pretty affordable. And also Tom Bowlus is very enthusiastic about these.
What about a Schroeder 1212L? Why have one 12 when you can have two? cheers Bob
4.
That is a lovely Warwick. My Thumb bolt-on 4 is an amazing bass and I'll be taking it to the grave. The Shuker I'm getting built has a lot of Warwick inspired touches.
Thanks Havent really played this bass live until the last month or so- thought it was too expensive but once I decided to sell the Marcus have really got into the Thumb. I Do watch it closely at gigs though and have warned the band not to make any sudden moves if they are near me- but the inevitable will happen I suppose!! cheers Bob
5. My Big Rig My Lightweight Rig Waiting for a new Schroeder 1515L and will use both Schroeder Cabs with the Marshall VBA 400 and my Warwick Thumb- perfection!! cheers Bob
6. Hi All Now that my Marcus Miller has gone this is my one and only bass- Cant really count my Hofner Senator!! I love it- and I have had it for 3 years- obviously takes some time for me to really like something- I have found that recently. Crappy blackberry pictures though. Cheers Bob
7. My Warwick Thumb NT- took me three years to actually realise how great this bass is- and how great sounding- I have now just the one- now that the Jazz has been sold. It does everything I need it to- looks great- plays great. How can anything be better? cheers Bob
8.
ehhh..."blushing"....I used to own this bass and actually found the ashtray thingy that covers the neck pup when I moved house a while ago....happy to post to the seller/buyer against P&P. Carl
Hi Carl Sold to federico- I`m sure he will PM you with his details- much appreciated cheers Bob
9. !,ve ordered a 1515L to go with my 1212L- I`ll keep you all posted for a review when it arrives- hopefully it`ll be a bigger sound than I have now- which is pretty massive anyway- really happy with the schroeder- if I have alittle more depth it will be perfect. cheers Bob
10. Quite like the idea of a 2 x 15 and schroeder do one- would this be a good choice to go with the 1212l cheers Bob
11.
Is the Schroeder brand new? Mine took quite a few gigs before it really opened up and produce more bottom end. Its never going to be a deep cab - The Schroeder's party piece is being able to go rediculously loud without distorting I missed the rumbling bottom end of a larger cab and that's why I eventually sold mine after having it for 2 years
yeah I have noticed that after a few gigs the schroeder 1212l has opened up a l;ittle and "warmed up" but I really think the 4 x 12 sounds better as therre are simply more speakers- do agree the schroeders go very loud indeed- but I think 2 of them will give a deeper smoother sound. Love to hear other opinions cheers bob
12. Hi All In a bit of a predicament Have just sold my Marshall Cab- its the 4 x12 matched with the VBA 400 valve amp. It sounds great but too heavy. Waiting for the cab to be picked up. Was playing today and comparing the cab with my schroeder 1212L and the Marshall cab sounded better ( to my ears ) I really like the Schroeder with my Markbass amp but I was surprised the marshall 4 x 12 sounded better- more relaxed tone- deeper etc. I think it is something to do with four speakers as apposed to two with the Schroeder. I am thinking of buying another schroeder 1212L ( will be 2 0hms so the Markbass wont do it - so I will use the VBA 400 which goes down to 2 ohms ) to go with the Marshall so I have a big rig and a normal rig with the Markbass amp and one cab. Anyone have any thoughts? By the way I play in a soul / funk group - 7 piece and the bass does not go through Front of House Pa. Two Schroeder cabs are still way lighter and smaller than the Marshall cab- shame about the weight of the Marshall amp- but sounds miles better than the markbass so its a keeper. cheers Bob
13. hi all Looks like the cab has been sold so anyone want the amp- or do I keep it- decisions, decisions cheers Bob
14.
I'm in the process of trying to buy a second hand Warwick, but that scratching on the back just puts me right off. For shame sir :/
Dont think about it- it wont change the way the bass plays or sounds and a new one will quickly be in the same condition and to be honest you`ll feel better anyway with it like that. Its awful the first time a new bass is scratched- but with a ( much ) cheaper used one thats no problem. You can always take the scratches out with emery. Just my tuppence. Cheers Bob
15.
I too had a VBA400. Best sound ever, but had to get rid because of the weight.
Yeah when I wasnt playing much it was fine- just that the band I`m in are becoming quite popular ( you know how it goes ) and my lightweight stuff really makes a difference at the end of the night. Still doesnt sound as good as the Marshall though. Thanks anyway Bob
16.
Are you saying you want £100 for the cab? If you do I'll get back to you as soon as I can mate. Bargain. What's the impedence and watt rating?
Its 4 ohms rated at 475w think- the amp is the most powerful amp I have used- probably equivalent to a 1000w solid state and the cab has no rattles or farts etc Of course I cannot post or deliver as it is HEAVY!! To be honest if the cab goes- and it will for that I might just keep the amp- now thats a thought..... cheers Bob
17.
Would you be willing to split these up and if so how much would you want for the cab? Ta
Yeah but would want £650 for the amp- therefore the cab is a bit of a bargain!! Cheers Bob
18. Needles and Pins- blanked out from my memory because of the pain. cheers Bob
19. Thanks Pal- I really like it but needs must!! cheers bob
20. Some more info from the chap I bought it off -- This is a sunburst one and has had the bridge replaced with a 70's reissue bridge- sounds and feels excellent. Passive mode is excellent as is active mode- volume between the two is very close so it's easy to flick the switch over if you want to kick in a bit of a bass boost etc- when used carefully the preamp is brilliant. It also has a set of the following pickups in- a BIG improvement over the originals- highly noticable on the bridge pu which is now much fuller. The whole sound is a slightly beefier version of the originals. http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0992123000 Set up is quite low, with no rattles or dead spots. It was owned by my friend Russ (MrRuss on BassChat), and BB200, and has been well looked after by them... they are both good BassChat users.
21.
My friend might be interested in just the amp...would you split? And how much for the amp? Thanks! Ill speak to him now.
£650 for the amp but really wanted to sell both if poss. Cheers Bob
22.
"Sounds great- really versatile- has an original 70s style bridge." Yep they are great basses, just wondered why you did away with the Badass bridge ?
70s bridge was on it when I bought it - Yeah and made in Japan Best Jazz ihave owned- shame to get rid but I play my 5 string and never can use both at the same time- in the same band- I just get nervous when I do. Cheers Bob
23. Hi All Realised I`m a 5 string man so the Marcus has to go- Sunburst- good condition- the odd nick here and there- been a working bass Sounds great- really versatile- has an original 70s style bridge. New set of Fatbeams- set up great. Nice and light. Looking for £450 plus postage- I live in Hessle near Hull- so f anyone wants to try- feel free. Sorry about photos. Cheers Bob
24. Hi All Looking to sell this rig- by far the best sound I have ever had- goes rediculously loud- superb warm tone and more EQ than you would think once you get used to it. Works great with my jazz but even better with my Warwick Thumb. Have gone lightweight with a mark bass / schroeder rig and for the joints my band plays cant really justify keeping the big rig. The new lightweight rig doesnt sound anything like as good but is kinder to my back. That Marshall is heavy!! Amp is like new- only used for 10 gigs- about 2 years old. Cab sounds great -is built like a tank but covering ripped in places- I think it looks better that way anyhow- a bit of Mojo!! Not a great photo I,m afraid but it is what it is. Looking for £750 for the two- I know the amp is 1100 new? Cant post this- so must be local pickup or I could deliver within like 50 miles of Hull.
25. I seem to change what I want depending upon the band I`m in. At the mo` I`m aiming for David Dyson- he plays an MTD or skyjold ( spelt wrong?) - my warwick does a real good imitation but I still sound like me which is nice. Next to the groove I think tone is all. Cheers Bob
