1. Sure, string spacing at the bridge is 18mm
2. Dropped to £350 as I really need the money right now, its a steal at that price. Wont let me add my photos for some reason so Dropbox link added at bottom of ad. Up for sale (and sale only) is my Yamaha BBN5A (5 String) in translucent green/blue (or somewhere there in between), a discontinued model built in Japan in the mid 90s (This one is dated ~94/95), released alongside the Nathan East signature of the time, which is almost identical to the bass for sale (nathan east signature had a flamed maple top and ebony fretboard, but otherwise exactly the same specs as this). Specs are as follows: Bolt on Neck 34" Scale Length Rosewood Fingerboard with Pearl Blocks and Maple neck Alder Body with Maple top 24 Frets Solid Brass Bridge/Hardware 2 Double Coil Alnico V Pickups 5 Control Eq with Volume, Pickup Pan and 3 Band EQ with 3 position Mid selector A fantastic bass, really versatile. Nice and easy to play, action currently set nice and low. Have used this in a wide variety of styles. In excellent condition for a 20 or so year old bass. There are unfotunately a couple of small dings as show in the photos but as you'll see they arent very big. Happy to answer any queries you may have, Reduced to £400! Collection from Huddersfield or potentially Leicester, OR I can post it at buyers expense. 3. Currently on 5 but thats counting 2 that i'm currently hoping to shift, trying to keep it at just three which should be more than enough. That should hopefully be, a Bacchus 24 5 string (active/passive, humbucker/single coil swiss army knife), A P bass I put together (because everyone should have one), and a fretless jazz. It's nice to have options for most tones, especially if you're working with specific people!
4.
Not sure on the string spacing, but a Yamaha TRB1006 should be available at that budget and is a superb instrument.
+1 on that, you can get one second hand for £500 or under and they really are great instruments for the money.

6. Yeah the Jazz guy is scarily good, major major chops. But at the same time I feel like their can't really be a true winner when you have several great players from such different styles. Once you get to some of their levels (not really the rock guy) it goes past comparing their skill to comparing the genres and styles, which of course isnt a competition.
7. Yeah its on demand on sky (well the heats for each category and semi final) if anyone has sky that is. Having just watched the other 4 rock guitarists in that heat it really is strange that the 13 year old lad got through, not saying that he doesnt have the right attitude or potential, but some of the other guys were just so far ahead of him technically that it's almost criminal that they didn't get through! Yeah I found when I had the semi final on that I was watching the session bassist half the time! Oops...
8. Anybody seen this new (ish, its almost at the final now) show on sky arts called Guitar Stars? It's essentially X Factor for guitarists but without the flash and public votes and importantly some genuine talent. Has some killer players on it, plenty of child prodigys, and with 4 groups of differing styles too (Classical, Acoustic, Rock and Jazz). Would definitely recommend checking out if you play guitar and want to see what you'll never become
9.
As nice as the EA Wizzy 10 is, the 4 ohm impedance makes it less suitable for pairing with anything else unless your amp will run at 2 ohms (which Markbass don't IIRC).
Oh yeah probably should have mentioned it will have to be 8ohm! Cheers
10. Thanks for the suggestions. May have forgotten to mention I don't have a great deal of cash but it isn't super urgent. Also thought it's worth mentioning i'm looking mainly for a cab not a combo. And would likely be pairing up with a Markbass traveller 151p for louder gigs. Cheers
11. Hi All, As mentioned in the title, i'm hoping to acquire some sort of very small and light cab if they exist. I don't have a car so have to rely on public transport for most gigs. I play in pretty much all settings but this would mostly be used for jazz and other small gigs. So basically, are there any small (as in 1x10 or close to) and light cabs out there that don't sound terrible? Cheers, Jack
12. Thanks for all the Replies. I'm Currently leaning very much towards one of the ~€1000 models (carved/hybrid) available at Thomann and Gedo unless a good deal pops up second hand. It says on both sites that they will do a setup to your specs when ordering, but would I be right in saying that it would be still worth taking them to a luthier when they arrive for a proper seeing to? Also in what ballpark would I be expected to pay for a setup from a luthier? Cheers
13. Also is it worth looking at EUBs too? I'd imagine the majority of situations i'd be aplified/mic'ed so this could be a viable option. Would be able to get a second hand yamaha slb-200 the hopefully which ive heard are great. Cheers
14. Thanks for the advice. I emailed those specialists mentioned. With regards to the Thomann/Gedo music basses, is it any specific ones of those to look at or any that fit in my price range? Also would those at this price range be Carved or Laminate? (Or hybrid maybe) Thanks
15. Hi All, About to properly delve into the world of double bass. Been a Cellist and bass guitarist for a while and played on others double basses enough to be comfortable (to a degree) on those too. Do a bit of big band work here and there and really want a double bass to get the right sound. So looking for something mainly orientated for jazz (low-ish action and a pickup) but something that can be bowed on too and used for orchestral/pit work should it be required. I'm a student so I only really have about a grand tops to spend. Been browsing second hand stuff on here, ebay and gumtree but nothings stood out. Recently heard on my searches about some of the new but cheaper basses done by Gear4Music (the archer one i think) and the Thomann ones (in the 700-1000 range). So what would people suggest to go for, wait around for a good deal second hand or go for one of the online ones, which I know will take a few hundred quid to get set up and sounding good. Thanks a lot, Jack

17. Bought a pickup from Richard, prompt postage and well packaged, would recommend!
18. Hi All, I'm currently putting a little project together and I think the body I have is from a squier of some sort (affinity I think), which requires a 14 hole pickguard, something not as common as I originally thought! Does anyone know anywhere that I could perhaps get a custom one made? Only problem being that I don't actually have one that fits to send off a template. Cheers, Jack
19. Hi there, I'm currently in the middle of making a bitsa P bass and the only bit left to acquire is a scratchplate/pickguard. I think the body is from some sort of 2000s squier? It's got 14 holes, not 13 like I remember most having, which is making it really quite difficult to find a pickguard for. I've heard mighty mite do a 14 hole one but i've also read reviews of it being really hit and miss as to whether it fits. It wont let me upload the picture of the body for some reason but if you want to see it I can send the picture, and if anyone has come across this sort of problem before then let me know, I'd like to get it all put together for a gig in 3 weeks! Cheers, Jack
