If you played bass in an indie band in the eighties, Andy Rourke's level of playing was probably your aspirational goal. His contribution to The Smiths was as huge as it is underrated.

    Absolutely spot on.

  2. Genz Benz NEOX-210T.

£350 collected Chorley, Lancs or can ship at cost.

Good condition  - all works as it should.

Cab has had a matching replacement speaker in its life - still sounds fantastic.

Some minor signs of wear on the carpeting and some scuffs on the corner protectors, so please do not expect pristine.

The Genz Benz NEOX-210T bass enclosure is designed around 2 ultralight, cast-frame 10" neodymium loudspeakers. These drivers deliver exceptional power-to-weight performance, enhanced tone, and frequency response. The bass speaker's lightweight design, Edge-Lift handles, and tiltback casters make traveling a breeze.

    GNX 10250 Neodymium Loudspeaker

  3. Wal Mk 1  / Custom / Pro.

Now £5500 collected (Lancashire), not keen on shipping given the value but PM me if its a deal breaker.

    Open to part trades.......

Its made from a solid ash body, (not mahogany) and a face wood!.

Very unusual on a custom Wal (aka MK1).

Basically its a Pro neck on a standard Custom series.

It is actually reasonably common for Wal to service basses in this configuration.

So, I believe, a Pro 1 neck put onto a Mark 1 body at Wal in 1990. Probably, likely have been a customer request.

    Set up and plays beautifully.

Lots of wear on this bass - cracking and crazing of the finish and cracking and crazing on the headstock.

Very common for Wal Basses to have these crack lines in the poly finish on the rear of headstock “volute” area.

If there’s a solid colour that suits a Wal it’s definitely black..

Signed off as 1990, and shows signs of use commensurate with this, please do not expect an as new pristine bass.

Weight is 4.437 Kg on my digital kitchen scales, so fairly lightweight for a Wal bass of this period.

The wait on a new Wal bass is circa 5 years at present!

I've tried to capture all this as best I can in the photos added - happy to send more photos and details as required.

@Chienmortbb and I have had these two on the test bench and I use the Gnome myself; bought as a backup and for open mic/jam sessions I probably use it a little more than my gigging amps. The TC BAM is also very similar. I go through the PA so my bass amps nowadays are used for stage monitors at gigs and rarely get a run out at high power levels. The Gnome (hence all of them) is loud enough for most small gigs with my 12" LFSys Silverstone and for stage monitoring with my 10" cab. With a couple of 12's the extra 5db means it will cover all my volume needs and would fill a decent sized venue.

In terms of measurement power output is the same for all three and as advertised. The voicing is different and somewhat surprising though with one similarity between all three. Set to 12 o'clock the Elf has a smiley face response with the bass and treble boosted and hence a mid cut. That's very nice sounding at low/medium volumes and effectively a 'loudness' boosted sound. The gnome has a small bass peak another mid suckout at around 400hz and a climbing treble response which makes it very clean sounding. the TC is the flattest response somewhere between the other two. The striking similarity between them is that the mid tone control works at exactly the same frequency in all three and the mid dip in all three is at this frequency. This means you can pretty much dial up the same sound in all three. The Gnome is more or less flat with bass at 2.00 mid at 1.00 treble at 10.00.

You could happily buy any of these, I only bought the Gnome because the BAM was out of stock and though I preferred the colour it wasn't enough of an issue for me to wait. I think most of us would prefer the voicing of the Elf but whether you think that is worth the extra money is your choice. You can get almost the same sound out of all of them mine has been 100% reliable and has the blessing of a nice quiet fan.

  5. Gallien Krueger GK Fusion 550.

    £500 shipped Mainland UK.

I have the original box so can ship safely.

A few marks, dings and scrapes on the casing from normal use but all works as it should.

The Gallien-Krueger Fusion 550 is GK's first bass amp head featuring an all-tube preamp. The Fusion 550 bass head incorporates a uniquely designed 6-stage tube preamp paired with a 500W version of the high-current solid-state power amp used in the GK 1001RB-II. The rich warmth of tubes, combined with the quick, punchy power that G-K bass amps are known for, is an aural experience you must hear to believe.

As if that wasn't enough, GK has inventively incorporated motorized knobs into the Fusion 550 head that allow you to store two different settings. This gives you the ability to dial in a separate overdrive or slap tone and footswitch between them--a first for a fully analog bass amplifier.

The Fusion 550 amp also features a simplified version of GK's exclusive 50-W Horn Bi-Amp System. Dial in the horn where you like it, and as you adjust your volume with the master control, the ratio between the woofer and tweeter is preserved. Other features include a tube driven 4-band active EQ and voicing filters with a frequency select for the contour control. The rear panel features include Neutrik Speakon and 1/4" speaker output jacks, effects loop, tuner out, and a footswitch input jack. It also has a DI output which uses an isolated transformer for ultra-quiet operation.

I'd always recommend trying a Warwick built between 1999 and 2008 in person before handing over money.  Dog years for Warwick QC, so many badduns, particularly between 2000 and 2003.

Yep - the Bleached Blonde Thumbs are 2003.

Nice basses, though be aware if buying in the UK (if thats where they still are...) I know of at least 2 and most likely 3 of these that have neck / truss rod issues.

Number 27 is one I'm fairly certain.

Another was listed on ebay for spares as separate neck and body, then surfaced  later as a complete bass at Bass Direct in the used section.
