So, do we know if it's a new Mikalik preamp in there or was it just a repair? Any ideas?
It was an issue with wiring and (correct value) pots.
Nothing changed on the preamp in the discussions around my ownership time - Still looks like an non adjustable trim Tonepump in the photos too.

I was not aware that there is a tonal difference between US and EU maple. Well, every day is a school day, I guess.
For example, who knew that there is a difference between an African and European swallow either? 😁
Yep - I'd say its a bit of nonsense / black magic.
Some on Talkbass say that the early euros were made with shipments of USA Maple so they sound like USA Spectors (preamps differences nonewithstanding of course)

Nope, never played it but judging by the photos and Andy's description (see link below), it sounds like the real deal. Back in April 2023, I sent him an email asking about the neck shape. I then went to work and by the time and I cam home, the bass had sold 😞
It then re-appeared two weeks ago on Ebay and I contacted the seller who was the guy who bought from Andy. I bid for it, but was outbid 😞
This week, the seller then reached out to me saying that the buyer was a scammer and the bass was back up on Ebay. Unfortunately, I could not afford the asking price 😞
Interestingly, both Andy and the guy on Ebay sold it as "European alder body and is topped off with a stunning flamed maple top". However, it has solid maple wings, which, at least for me, is an important part of the Spector recipe (together with neck-thru design, active EMGs and the Haz preamp (or clone or Haz pedal)).

The eBay seller isnt the guy who bough from Andy Baxter -I did.
It is solid maple indeed.
I bought it but we had a lot of back and forth on the preamp and pots which weren't working as they should.
I pointed him in the direction of Michalik (Mr Tonepump) so get the correct parts identified.

Yes, it could be but I'm not totally convinced based on this rough logic:
We go from 2 blocks of maple to, let's say a sandwich of maple/walnut/alder, the walnut is the same density as the maple and it's 40% maple, 10% walnut, 50% alder roughly, I'm giving alder the benefit. Alder is 67% the density of maple. We've reduced 15% just on the wings. I reckon 6-8oz. Meanwhile US instruments are still being made with full maple.
Is that 6-8oz worth it? I don't know but it does turn a 9lb 12oz bass into a 9lb 4oz bass. Is that going to meet whatever the business need was at the time?
Can @cetera shed any light on why the change happened?
I've read that the change was due to tonal reasons.
USA Maple and European maple not sounding similar enough, so they settled on the walnut sandwich as the closest tonal option.

Blimey!... Surprised to see this one go up, I know how much this bass means to you.
Undeniably a top tier bass this is, I can vouch for that having seen and played it.
I'd say this is the best value for money bass on here right now.

Yep - massive variation in the attractiveness of the finishes.
Waiting patiently for one to crop up with actual photographs and looking fairly attractive too on one of the burst options.

I think Bass Direct had one that suffered finish damage because the bag was too tight/wrong shape. I owned an LT4 and I'm pretty certain this used the same gig bag as the Euro-X, which is mental, given they're wholly different shapes/lengths. Lazy.
It's crazy that a manufacturer can put so much care and attention into making a custom £2.5k instrument and the route to customer potentially falls over with the gigbag not being fit for purpose.
Going back to the case/bag thing, when bass is at home, it lives in the Tourtech HSC (I have HSCs for everything), when it goes out, it's in the Ritter. Beautifully padded, loads of pockets, very lightweight.
Agreed the standard Spector gig bags are a poor choice for these basses.I’ve seen the pics of the damaged white one, that’s not due to the bag in that case I’m my view. A correctly shaped Spector gig bag wouldn’t have helped.

I was watching the "five watt world" episode on the Stingray on YT earlier & they said that SUB stands for"Sports Utility Bass" & I really hope that's true.
It stands for Stingray's Ugly Brother.

These are great bits of kit - similar to comment above, if I had a bass to put it in I'd be interested.

Are you able to reshare your photos? As they don't show up for me.
I have an issue with a broken truss rod and looking for info on replacing it (preferably with a custom one or one that's better made than the Warwicks!)
Mine snapped a few minutes after a very small turn which is very frustrating. Any idea why they stopped using removable rods?
Found the photos.
Not sure why the design change on the truss rod.
From memory, I think the truss rod end at the hell is a T section rather than a straight bar so it no longer slides in and out.
