  1. Gallien Krueger MB200 - Designed & Assembled in the USA - Not all of them were....

    £200 Shipped Mainland UK

I've mainly used this for home practice but I'm now using my Zoom B3n for that so this is now surplus and up for sale.

    Spec:

200w into 4ohms, 140w into 8ohms - but sounds much louder - albeit to my old cloth ears!

    - 10db pad, four band active EQ section with contour, headphone/line out, XLR out - pre/post EQ, Speakon output, Aux Input.

    Measures 8" x 7.75" x 1.5" & weighs just 2ibs.

Decent overall condition - just a few scars here and there.

The Waterloo is ok, not the best venue but a decent PA. Only downside is if it’s busy getting gear in and out can be a pain. If you have merch I’d get there early and nab a space to set it all up.

Have a good ‘un, at some point I’ll get round to one of your gigs when they’re a bit nearer, loved the material you put up on here.

Thanks Lozz - would be great to see you.

Yep, we've played many times at the Waterloo - we like it good venue, great staff, good crowd

Is the singer asking for more monitors because the guitarist is too loud? I know a guitarist actually turning down is the ninth wonder of the world, so maybe turn his amp away from the singer.

Yes, that was my thought...volume wars!.

It's a slow process but I find some gentle education to the others of going down the route of everything else turning down to get a good balance.  Hopefully preventing the pattern of turning things up one at a time helps.

I stand corected as they say....I actually think it sounds fine as is. But I have adjusted the price a bit to make it more in line with what it is which is stock. It's hard to get an idea of a price with it being pretty rare and not many examples about.

Ahhh, didn't realise it was your bass too.

Yes, a fine bass as is.

    I'm half tempted myself.

Can you put up a photo of the preamp too, what weight is it?

Last one on here seems to have sold for £550....I shall see what it fetches soon I hope lol! Thanks for posting!

I think you are referring to my old one there.

That has EMG active pickups and a Tonepump upgrade worth around £200.

Fret decals as well to complete the look.

As stock these will have passive EMG HZ pickups, pretty rubbish in my view and miles away from the true Spector Sound.

Preamp is likely an EMG which is actually fine.

I see the Gumtree advert says Active, that's the preamp that is active, photos show clearly that the pickups are passive EMG HZ.

  6. It's entirely possible that even after the commission has been taken out a seller could still end up with the same amount of money or possibly more money.

Many used basses on Bass Direct are listed up for over 20% more than they would have been likely to have been listed for in the various places to list a private sale.

This also provides access to a larger, specialised customer base.

Warwicks for example appear to sell through Bass Direct for much more than a seller would likely get in a straight person to person private sale.

Commisssion isnt all negative of couse.

I'm always reminded of the commission free currency exchange rates.

On many of these you could come out with a better deal on an exchange where you do pay a commission on a rate that is x percentage points over and above what you would pay as a commission percentage.

Looking at the bridges (the blue one has a high mass bridge) I would hazard a guess that the black and the pink ones are later models when manufacturing was moved away from Japan.

Fairly certain these 3 are Japanese Made Mick - I've had a few of these, like you.  Also had some non Japan ones and have seen the slight differences.

The pink one serial number dates to 1988.

    Black is 1991.

    Blue is 1991.

I think its just a quirk of the build, once upon a time I though it was between 4 strings and 5 strings but now dont think that is the case - the published catalogue photos show this.  Many other photos on line showing this too

Interesting. One of my Nanyos had the same pre-amp as yours and a similar problem also on the bass pot. It had an audible "click" when it reached the end of its travel and it affected the tone as well.

I did try and source a replacement pot but getting one with the correct dimensions proved tricky. Although the pots are PCB mounted there is a brass spacer that slides over the threaded collar of the pots acting as a spacer. Then secured by the nuts on the front of the bass. I gave up in the end and as I'd already swapped out the pre-amps in my other 2 basses, went the whole hog and changed it.

Whilst searching for a possible 2nd hand replacement, this pre amp also seems to be fitted to Tune Maniacs, I discovered an Artec one that appears to be exactly the same size and fit. An Artec BE2.

    http://artecsound.com/pickups/electronics/be2.html

One thing to be aware of on the size and fit on the PCB's, therefore fixed pot locations,  is the location of the pots and the holes in the bass.

See my 3 here - you will see that on the pink one (yes it's pink, yes its original judging by the control cavity) and the black one the location of the knob nearest to the bridge.

Whilst on the Blue one the location of the knobs is a much more uniform / pleasing diamond shape.

All these 3 are early ish Japanese Made ranging from 1988 to 1991

I wonder if that was the one that was stolen from our rehearsal space 50 years ago.

Could be seeing as I bought if from a second hand shop in Northampton.....
