  1. I've really really wanted one of these since they came out. I really think they're the best looking amp range, possibly ever.

So a few weeks ago I managed to pick one up second hand.  They're fantastic in the flesh. Real quality finish, quite substantial for a smaller amp and a nice weight to them.

So far I've played at home, in an oasis tibute band into a gk 15 cab, oasis tribute into a Laney old school 4x10, u2 tribute into a cheap hartke 4x10 (probably the worst cab I've ever used) and used it as a Di pre into our pa direct for a party band. The combo with the Laney cab was definitely the best.

All bands needed a slight adjustment due to different set ups, music and cabs as well as rooms. However it was so easy to do with either the 4 position mid selector or the quick adjust tilt dial (which is my favourite thing ever on an amp). It simply makes it lean more to the bass side or treble side without just boosting one frequency. Simple but genius. Also, what I liked was Laney actually describe what each mid selector does in both a diagram on the amp and in words in the manual. Nice touch.

In every band the sound was brilliant whether using the solid state channel, valve emulated channel or both together. Really rich sound. It has that old skool presence like an old ampeg rig where it has the indescribable depth to the sound.

Add to this the main specs including Di out, aux in and headphone socket and I think this is my favourite amp head ever. It sounds great no matter what, is easy to adjust, totally flexible and a one hand carry.

The only thing I will add is these will benefit from a 4ohm cab - which the acxompanying digbeth cabs are designed for. An 8ohm is fine but you will need to push it a bit. Or use 2 :)

    For £395 I don't see a better amp on the market, I really don't.

Cab wise now, I've wanted one of the vertical 4x10s but they're out of my price range at the moment. As soon as I can though I'll b e having one for a great looking, small, powerful quality rig.

  2. Surely that's a typo and it's 1000w class d?

If not it's the craziest design for a long long time. 2 channel, over 10kg, large build and carry.... and you can't gig with it..... and around £800. Who'd buy that?

  3. Laney 4x10 bass cab.

It's a fantastic loud and rich sounding cab. 8ohm.

It's old school HEFT and sounds amazing. It's big and heavy but you are rewarded with a lovely sound.

It's been well used, and has scratches and a few war wounds. The paint on the corner pieces and handles has come away in parts, put a quick spray with £5 paint and theyll be good as new.

Great value - just think - x4 10inch speakers would be well over £200.

    Pick up Leyland Lancashire.

I feel your pain. I once played in a band where, in the breaks between songs, the guitarist would play a short excerpt from the next tune in the set, at full volume. He seemed to be utterly oblivious that he was doing it.

Yep, been there. Absolutely hate that!!

  5. I think you just need to decide what from your gear is the sound you want.

If it's the sv pedal then send one send from that to FOH and another send to your rig.

My own preference would be to just plug direct into the abm and get it as flat and unflavoured as possible. It's only for your pleasure as the main bass sound is from the pedal and foh.

If it helps, the best amp I had for this type of set up was the quilter bb800. Pretty much uncoloured so it gives you your preamp pedal sound but with lovely eq for those stage corrections. Light as a feather too. I've used the 'proper' pa amp method before and to be honest really didnt like it. Whereas the bb800 is made for it.

  6. Hi all, I've recently bought a laney digbeth head - absolutely superb amp. I'll prob write a review soon.

However, as 2 of my bands now play backline (and I'm usually iems) I needed a cab. The digbeth range for some reason went up a few hundred quid so I was left trawling facebook and found a dirt cheap old laney 410.

As expected it was heavy. And big. And wide. And impossible to carry through a door on your own. But I'd give it a try at practice. And I'm glad i did. The sound is fantastic. Really really rich and has that pillowy background to the notes which fills the room. Far better than any recent lightweight cabs I've used.

On greater inspection it's a laney DB410. It looks at least 20 years old, and I cant find any info anywhere. It has the logo top left and 4 ports on the compass points (12, 3, 6, 9 oclock)

Has anyone any info? More out of curiosity really. I know itll get replaced by something more manageable soon (hopefully a digbeth matching cab).

  7. Tech 21 VT bass deluxe programmable bass pedal. Store upto 6 settings and a DI pedal.

Truly brilliant pedal really nails a whole host of ampeg sounds from b15 to svt.

This also has a xlr di, send return through and more for the ultimate swiss army knife of pedals.

Run it in front of your amp, into your send return or into a power amp.

The beauty of this is that you can save 6 settings (3 on each bank) which means it's very flexible at a live gig.

It's not been used much but as with most of these pedals they look like they have - for some reason the print seems to come off. However it's a character pedal and that's character :)

Pretty rare now and I think if any are still available new they're expensive.

Pick up Leyland Lancashire or will post for £8.

So I’m sure, that when you or your band are successful, you’re very busy, and you receive a ton of messages via social media, that take a lot of time to respond to, and it’s probably impossible to respond to more than a select few.

However, every so often, I’ll message the occasional musician via Instagram messages usually. Just with a brief message. Dave Swift, who frankly is a total legend, always replies…. Tim Lefevre replied to me, and a few others too. As long as you don’t take the mick and try to be best buds, mostly, bass players are cool.

However, there are exceptions. I messaged a bass player, in a well known funk pop band with a bit of a diva frontman who likes hats. I mentioned that myself and Mrs Rayman were getting married soon and going to see his aforementioned band play live at an open air festival thing. I asked if there was any chance of a “quick hello” and picture as part of our pre wedding celebrations, it would mean a lot.

He read the message, and never replied. Not even with “Sorry, it’s not possible, but good luck with your wedding”….. nothing. Obviously he’s too big time to respond to fans and fellow bass players?

    Whatever

He probably never even got it. PR team got in the way.

Isnt there a nice story about him on here though with a bass chatter at promenade in morecambe?

  9. I use those, they should be fine.

One last thing to try  - have you flicked the switch in the p2 from mono to stereo or vice versa? Open the battery bit and you'll see it in there. I'm pretty sure it wont be that, but worth a try.

And for clarity are you running you're own iem mixer from the mixer and have you set up your own iem mixer screen?

FOH is fine.  Metering - nothing is overloading/clipping.  Wireless AND wired through IEM or studio headphones is exactly the same.

It is a total mystery why my bass (and none of the other inputs to the desk) in the Aux mix should be so bad but in bypassing the Soundcraft desk/mixer and using the bass into a Rolls PM351, I can hear my clean bass tone and get a mix of the rest of the band.

This might be a daft question, but just trying to help - are your iems / headphones good for bass?

If they handle bass well, at least you can rule that out.

Also, are the iems / headphones mono/stereo and not mobile phone (3 ring) headphones?

I had some earphones that were horrendous for bass, and some that are great.

Was there an update to the rule book that I missed?

Yep, changes all the time in accordance with which new bass I fancy justifying buying.

  12. Pedaltrain space saving tuner (SST) for guitar and bass guitar.

Excellent slim size so it can fit on your pedalboard or inbetween pedals so as not to take up a lot of space.

This is also perfect for anyone who has a 2U amp head and has no more room in their rack. Just thread it through and velcro to your amp and plug into your tuner out connection.

You will need a 9v adaptor or connection to other pedals to work.

Collection leyland Lancashire or can post for £5.

  13. Boss WL-50 wireless transmitter and receiver. Boxed. Good condition only had light use.

Why choose this pedal for your wireless guitar or bass guitar?

    1. It a small compact fx pedal size.

    2. It comes with its psu.

    3. There is also a thru for powering other pedals.

    4. It plugs right into your bass or guitar. No need to plug in another cable etc.

    5. You dont need to scan for the best frequency - it automatically scans the frequencies for you and gives you the best one available.
