Just a guess. Is the OP talking about that lush J bass bedroom sound so enjoyed by a lot of younger players..the one which sadly disappears once on stage.
No, it was at an outdoor festival.
I've USA fenders, played through every head and cab going, I still maintain that sound beat a USA p and svt rig. Don't worry, I know that sounds crazy
-
Just to clarify, the benton was the best live sound I've ever had. The best recorded sound (never used the Harley yet) was my Fender p bass straight into scarlet into desk.
-
This was through a pa company's rig for an outdoor concert. Couldn't belive how good it sounded on stage (most of it was from the front of house sound).
Its a 5 selector and 3 band active bass so I had plenty of flexibility if needed. But I didn't need it. Bit of mid boost, rear humbucker. Job done.

.........
........ A Harley benton mm84a direct into the PA!
Can't believe it. Not even a Di pedal used. No amp, no Di pedal, no emulators. Just a second hand 70 Harley benton straight into the desk.....

Just plugged it in for another quick check and this indeed appears to be it.
The noise was there from start up, checked the button, headphone setting was engaged. Button out, noise gone!
Thanks for all the suggestions, and I'm very aware that the seller wasn't obliged to do anything, I haven't hassled him, just made him aware.
Now, off to actually enjoy the new amp!
No problem. Glad you're sorted. That headphone button has caught nearly everyone out who owns one at one time or another, me included

It's not the old headphones switch/bufton on the back is it?
Just check your headphone button isn't pressed in.

Imo the p bass sound when people refer to it is a really really raw sound slightly rough and distorted too, but sits lovely and warm in the mix. It's not necessarily the standard sound you'd get just from plugging any p bass in.

Hohner b2a or b2b.
They look like a steinberger and have some licence part/design from them.
I had one was surprised how good it was.

Ah sorry, I was thinking of the amp head, not the pedal.

I feel like this should be the Digbeth owners club, as the info is great...
on that note - Has anyone come up with a work around or solution for the quiet Aux in? After reading reviews and personal experience, it seems a lot quieter than any other aux in I've previously had.
My aux in is fine? There's a volume dial next to it from memory?

Don't fall for the marketing BS. Barefaced are fine cabs, but there is no magic fairy dust.
Yes, I think too many people think these are magic cabs that are blisteringly loud and far better than anything else out there. I believed the hype.
I know a lot of users love them but for me they were just a decent cab with decent volume. I really wasn't overly impressed.
Like anything though, everyone's experience and needs are different.

I played the hb mm84a at practice last night over 2 sets. It's very very good. Can't believe it to be honest. Def up there with anything I've had sound wise I'd say (which is crazy). Sits quite well round the neck and easy to reach the fretboard. All 5 positions worked well in a different way. The best for our band was bridge humbucker. Real nice, warm and defined.
It is heavy though.

I owned both a Ray34HH and Ray35HH and I found the output drop on the in between positions 2 & 4 (both inner and both outer coils) made switching between those tones and positions 1, 3 and 5 almost impossible in a live band setting. The in between positions sounded great but almost impossible to keep a consistent output if switching settings. Shame really as both basses were otherwise really nice.
I didn't get this problem with a USA deluxe Fender Dimension HH 5. That was a great sounding bass and the inner and outer coil settings sounded terrific.
The Harley benton I have does the same. All great sounds but 2 and 4 are noticeably a lot quieter.

I could drop round and shout a stupid number in your ear from 10cm. Is that near enough 😊
Oddly enough I was actually near you yesterday as my u16 girls rugby team was playing in Garstang. We played Liverpool St Helens who gave us a thrashing. As they might well be best girls team in the country, we weren't too down heartened.
Anyway, the CFO directly asked me how many guitars I still owned over the weekend and made the decision for me that some have to go. I'd love this one though. Perhaps I can persuade her one out/one in.

Its a fantastic bass. If you get sorted let me know. Thanks

I do love the look of them bongos. They suffer from rickenbackeritis though, where they never come down in price!

I'm probably the anomoly but I had x2 barefaced 210s which I thought would be everything I needed, but they really didn't work for me at all. The ashdown 410 that replaced it was far superior to my in ears (subjective I know).
The mark bass travellers were great in a vertical 210 set up. And prob half the price. I currently use a vertical 410 from Laney. Love it. They're prob 600 new now, but they are so easy to move around. They
wheels and top handle make it feel very very light to move around. There's also side handles too if needed.
Plenty of 210 cabs out there though if you wanted a cheaper set up. Only thing I'd recommend is get 2 of the same.

Hi all,
I've recently bought a very cheap second hand Harley benton mm84a which is a double humbucker active bass. 5 way selector switch.
Weird thing - I absolutely love it!! So much so I'm thinking of using it full time for one of my bands.
But just for info - does anyone else use or has anyone else used a double humbucker bass? What ones did/do you use?
I had a USA cali l2000 over covid but it just didn't do anything for me in a band situation. Yet the Harley benton does? Weird.
Any views on other double humber basses appreciated. I love mine as its like having 5 basses in one. From thinner harsher sounds to full fat sounds.

Will listen to near offers.
