It's not about the format but about the characteristics of the publication(s) in question. End of thread derailment! If anyone knows Emma in person and can contact her on my behalf and speed up the process I'd be grateful
-
Haha! I just think it's kind of shooting yourself in the foot if you said to a newspaper "Here's a story for you, check out this thread" and in that thread, you say something like "i'm not sending it to the really good newspapers, because I don't think they'll be interested" Never the less, it probably doesn't matter. I'll try not to overshadow Peter's and those who attended the open air concert's remarkable contribution.
Hey, "Quality newspapers" has nothing to do with my opinion of any publication, it's actually very precise - if perhaps jargon-like - term that denotes a certain group of newspapers, and is widely accepted and used in the field of media. Same for middle of the road and tabloid. Honest - look them up
-
Oh, absolutely, she's credited in the photo itself and in the caption I've given it in the press release. If any journalist is interested in the story, they will ask for the original files for publication. It would be great publicity for Emma too

LOL Milt, "quality", "middle of the road" and "tabloid" are the latest bit of jargony definitions I've learned, don't shoot me down like that

This is all fantastic! And it's all happening as James, Milton and I have just decided to try and pitch the national press about the BC Bass Relay. Reaching the first fundraising milestone is the perfect opportunity. I have written a quite professional-looking (if I can say so!) press release which I'm going to email to the middle-of-the-road and tabloid newspapers - but not to the qualities, as I somehow don't think the Guardian, the Times and their like would have space for our story. I have embedded two photos in it, one of which I own, while the other belongs to the professional photographer who took it in Falkirk where the baton was signed by Rhino of Quo. I have asked the photographer for her permission to use the photo, but she is on holiday and hasn't read my email or my tweet to her, so that's basically what we are waiting for. Once that is cleared, it'll be all systems go, and we hope that at least one paper will take up the story. If that happened, the results could be awesome! I may also pitch the London Evening Standard and the Metro, but a national newspaper taking it up would be best

YAY! If you decide on a date, let us know so I can tweet it to our followers like I do for the other meetups and bashes.
Sorry, but it's fourth declension not fifth. Fifth declension are e-stems.
I clearly can't remember my old grammar school days, which means I'd be left out of the door if the bash only admitted those familiar with Latin -
Bah! I'll only bring one of 'em then!
LOL no, please don't, your Statuses/Statii/Status are gorgeous and we want to see as many of them as possible! -

I imagined they didn't mean to follow the Latin 5th declension (bo-ring!), but Stati would look a little less odd. Come to think of it, that's probably why they chose the weird version! We all noticed it now -

Out of curiosity, why do people refer to the plural of Status basses as Statii, when it should actually be Stati? Timmo, you are wecome to attend just for the socialising angle -

Will the BCBaton be in the area at the time? Would be great if Guy Pratt could make the meetup and also play the baton. -

@ Shelley - what a shame, indeed. Hope to see you on another occasion soon. @ Ad - Oooo, checked your FB profile, you're less than a year ahead of me on that big birthday! I'll flood your page with birthday wishes at the right time. I'll make sure my blog will make those who can't make it in person feel like they were there nonetheless -

Thank you Nick (and Colin and Mrs) - I am tweeting this as we speak, will retweet periodically, and obviously plan to be there and write my customary photoblog about the day. I'm still left with some BC lanyards to give to ticket-paying punters, and hopefully I'll find some more prizes for the raffle (I used all I had in the previous raffles!). Thanks for mentioning this, MrF, I didn't know about the courses. Linkies below. The Metal Hammer one would be right up my street (despite being in Brighton, durr...) if I had the time and the money, and if the thought of getting out of the bedroom and playing with others didn't scare the bejeesus out of me http://www.bimm.co.u...-summer-schools http://www.bimm.co.u...-summer-schools

Silvia Bluejay replied to dave_bass5's topic in General Discussion
Haven't tried the actual picks, so I can't comment on those, but I unfollowed Chickenpicks' Twitter feed from our Basschat account because they're incredibly spammy - they post all the time, but offer nothing of real interest except endless - and very frequent - repetition of advertising slogans and assorted claims. (Or at least they did until my Unfollow made them disappear from BC's feed!). A lesson on how not to run a social media account. -
None that I know about, I'm afraid. That time of the year is when most people are on holiday, and organising something for one of those days would be a bit risky. We hope to be back with a bass bash in September.

I have a feeling that we'll be seeing a lot more of that Matamp at the Dogs' gigs They are playing the George IV in Chiswick this Friday 12th, 9pm.

Must be an issue with Firefox (all releases), because more often than not this site is slow as treacle to load on all of my machines. All other sites are fine. I'm against IE and Chrome so I don't use them.
