1. It's sometimes easier to pick up a 4x10 and put it on a 2x10, rather than the other way around, because:

    - the 4x10's handles are higher up, so you don't have to bend as far down to pick it up

    - once picked up, you don't have to lift it as high (because the 2x10 you're placing it on is not that tall).

Of course, this might be negated if the 4x10 was significantly heavier than the 2x10. My rig from ages ago was a Hartke 410TP (4x10) on top of a 2.5XL (2x10). In that case, they actually both weighed the same as each other (30kg each!).

  2. I have a Harley Benton PB-20 (i.e. their split-coil P-bass) - originally bought as a back-up, although it's currently my bass of choice (functions/weddings).

I'd also be interested to hear if someone has tried the PJ-74 you linked to.

Another option for a £100 PJ is http://www.dv247.com/guitars/jandd-yc-pbj-4-string-bass-guitar-3-tone-sunburst--201881

I managed to put it out without stopping playing!

    Nice one!

I once smelt burning halfway through a gig, and turned round to find the power extension reel smoking (all stage power was being run through that reel). We hadn't unwound it. I know now: always unwind the power reel!

Where did you get the tort pickguard from, is it a direct fit?
It is this Harley Benton one: https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_cc_pb_tt_pickguard_pstyle.htm

One screw hole doesn't line up at all. The rest were close enough.

The pickup cut-out was slightly too tight for the pickup to fit through, so I had to widen it a bit with a file.

generally various members (not me) lose their place, get sketchy with their timing and sound messy. And the 15 song set list is only as it is, because it's really hard to convince them to learn anything new to add to the list, especially as that would require more rehearsals.
I don't think you need more group rehearsals - I think you need fewer!

What I mean is: if people are continually getting lost in standards, or can't keep consistent time, they must do some individual practice. It is a waste of time to have a group rehearsal otherwise - particularly for you, if you are the strongest member of the group.

They could use tools like iReal Pro (or Band-in-a-Box, Aebersold tapes, etc).

Do you guys go to jam sessions (individually)? Playing with unknowns/randoms is a really great way to learn how to truly listen to, react to, and interact with other musicians.

What is your set of 15 songs, out of interest?

Just remembered a strange little place in Soho that some others of this parish must surely have played - anyone else been to Jazz After Dark?
Yes - I used to play there about 15 years ago.

We didn't get paid much, and had to buy our own soft drinks.

It was nearly always empty, apart from a few drunks.

The ceiling on stage was lower than the height of my double bass...

The bouncer was a moron. We would go outside between sets to get some air, informing him on our way out who we were and what we were doing. But nevertheless, upon returning, he would never let us back in!

  7. I recently found out about 'jockomo81' (as he is called on eBay) via this thread.

Purchased some stickers (aged white pearl). They took about five days to arrive from Japan.

    Thanks.

so this is wrong, it infuriates me and seems unique to guitar/bass transcriptions usually accompanied by tab.
Well... isn't this the same notational error which exists for all transposing instruments?

A trumpeter who thinks they are playing "B" is actually playing an A.

An alto saxophonist who is playing "their D" is actually playing an F.

    Etc.

  10. I play upright and electric in quite a loud band. I've not tried either the Fdeck or Thumpinator, but I just started using the hpf in the Zoom MS-60B ("Ac Bs Pre"), and it seems to tighten up the low end. So perhaps that's another option. One advantage of it being digital is that you can have it remember different presets for your different instruments/bands.

  11. What is the context of the question?

Perhaps intervals are not the best way to communicate what's going on?

    Given this question:
If I wanted you to play E , 7th fret and C# 9th fret, how would I express that as in intervals?
I would say either "go down to C#" or "down to the 6" (I've assumed that the first note played, E, was the root; or, in other words, that your song is in the key of E).

I wouldn't use absolute intervals between one note and the next. Instead, I would describe each note using its relation to the root.

Let's suppose the third note of your sequence was F#. I would then say "go up to the 2". (F# being the 2nd note of the scale in the key of E.)

I wouldn't say "play a perfect fourth above" even though F# is indeed a perfect fourth above C#.

How do the stereo outputs work? I currently split my signal with an ABY box into a bass amp and guitar amp. Would the zoom do the same job? Will I get the same signal from each output?
I own this pedal, am not expert, but my understanding is:

I think there are only one or two stereo effects, which send different signal to each output. But for the vast majority of effects, the same signal is sent to both outputs.

So you can generally use it as a Y box, i.e. to duplicate the same signal to two amps.

You can't use it as an AB box, i.e. switch between amp A and amp B one at a time.

my happy situation is playing 1 or 2 gigs a month maximum but it's very hard to find people with the same lack of ambition. They either don't want to gig at all or hate their day job and want to play 7 nights a week.
I share the bass chair in a band which plays 100+ gigs per year, which is way too much for me. I do about 30 of those gigs; the remainder are done by the other guy, or by a dep.
