1. Students have just got their grants so may it not be too bad a time right now
2.
I think it's a great toy. I wouldn't feel confident gigging with it. (plus the fact your bandmates may get a bit miffed if you're looking for certain sounds) I think that if you really want a certain amp sound, then the best thing is to save up and buy that make of amp.If you need to colour your sound after that ,then consider getting seperate pedals or if you are really adventureous -a less complicated effects unit.
I use mine for recording, I have no space and do not want the volume of a real amp. I would not use one live but I am happy with recorded sound of my V-amp but again you need reasonable speakers or headphones to get the best out of one
3. I have one and love it but the presets a rubbish. Find a amp you like then treat it like a normal amp. You would not just plug in to a real amp and not change the EQ
4. Have you been in the audience and had a good listen? Is it because the singer cannot hear herself on stage? it may be fine in the audience, singers always think they are never loud enough(that also includes their friends and family) If all you put through the system is vocals and a little bit of guitar you probably have no need of the subs as there are no real low frequency’s. For a band that vocals are priority, your system is only 80 watts aside through a 8” inch speaker on mid and top, not a lot of head room where you need it. Go with the Mackie’s or double up on the tops Product class L.U.C.A.S - The next Generation Model L.U.C.A.S SMART Power-handling nominal (RMS) 80 W RMS Frequency response +/- 3dB 100 Hz - 19 kHz Axial sensitivity 1W 97 dB Maximum SPL @1m 115 dB@10% THD Nominal impedance 4 Ohm Connections 1x Speakon® NL 4 Midrange woofer 1x 6,5 Tweeter/ driver 1" Dome Tweeter Horn characteristics 80° x 50° Crossover frequency 3 kHz, 12 dB/ Oktave HF protection (passive) Dyn. protection circuit Pole mount MicroTilt™, 15 mm Gross dimensions 18,5 cm x 27,5 cm x 21,5 cm Weight 4,5 kg / 9,9 lb.
5. I think it is the quality of the wood and parts not what country guitars are made in, also the tolerance and QC have a factor. In this day and age it is silly to think that people form one county to another are more or less capable of quility work. May be the training as better training costs more money, but i am sure wadges have somthing to do with it.
6. Got the Body today. Looks good unfortunately the neck socket is to big so I have put back on eBay. Yes it is heavy. Neck sock: part nearest to pickups = ca. 65mm. part furthest away from pickups = ca. 62mm http://my.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEb...K:ME:LNLK:MESEX PM Me If Intrested

8. I used a martin F2 system with a BSS cross over for years, a good loud PA. INHO much beter then most modern sub satellite systems. very heavy but great clear sound put some 18 inch subs this will be a killer.
9.
just set up my e-mu 0202 and using cubase for the very first time both inputs show on cubase display but............ it only records for 15 seconds any advice, much appreciated
Place locaters at the strat and end of what you want to record.
10. I Can Play I gave up playing for a long time so not as good as I was. Better than some players I know who think they are the bees knees. Sight reading very average Walking very average I am good enough to play most pop, Rock songs, having played in pro cover bands that has played pop, charts, disco, soul funk even Level 42 and ,Paul Young with Pino. I have played with musicians I admire and I like to think the respect me. In real terms, average, I am ok nothing special. There are some great players out there especially when there is good money concerned. I can get the job done with a minimum amount of fuss and have a good attitude. The world would not stop turning if I ceased to be involved with music and the only person who would miss out is me
11.
My NYE gig for the past 10 years has been very WAG friendly. However, it is a job I'm going to do and therefore I regard it as a bonus to be allowed to take my girlfriend. If I was a waiter/barman etc don't think this would be seen as okay, especially if they were taking the place of a paying punter. We celebrate New year properly on the 1st anyway! Its my choice/decision, so no probs.
Well said +1
12.
We've just found out that the venue I'm gigging at on New Years Eve won't allow children anywhere in the building at all that night. That's any age of child - no-one under 18 allowed. So Minus Zero, at 13, can't attend, therefore Mrs Zero also can't attend, so I'll be seeing the New Year in without her. The minor consolation is getting about £250, but this is one NYE gig I don't want to do again. And I'll be packing up and f***ing off just as soon as I can after midnight. The stupid thing is that it's a social club that we're playing at. Anti-social club might be a better name for it. The WMCs and social clubs round Brum really seem to have some sort of death wish, they're largely child-hostile, which means that they won't pull in anything like the numbers that they could. Blame the lack of numbers on the smoking ban, blame it on the credit crunch, don't blame it on the idiot decisions of a bunch of geriatric twats, aka The Committee.
Maybe the venue is full so they need to save the space for Adults after all it maybe a club that relies on their members. Maybe they need as many spending adults as they can to pay for the band of subsidies throughout the year, or they could be a set of grumpy old sods
13.
Just like sound engineers then.
+1 but alot of the time the band is not the customer.
14. I have a theory with music shop staff Having have advised on and put together quite a few PA’s for bands and entertainers, I have come to this conclusion. If a music shop pays shop wages they will be extremely lucky to get a pro engineer or musician,. Saying that there are some very capable shop staff, with loads of knowledge more than capable of Turning pro but for one reason or the others choose not to. Music shops attract wannabes with a attitude, the capable ones are confident in their own knowledge and ability to listen to a customer, and advise them accordingly
15.
I think a cross selection of styles always goes down well, maybe look at 'come on come over' by jaco, a jazz standard or 2, maybe a latin/funk thing? good luck, keep us posted! craig
I don’t know what other FE colleges ere are like, the one I went to the staff would not be able to do most of Jaco, or Marcus Miller justice never mind the pupils.
16. A Bone Through Her Nose by Richard Thompson. Great guitar solo but could empty any venue
17. Another one here for same position for sitting or standing.
18. Not for me Sorry, but good luck
19. If it is the jazz bass one put me in lthe que to buy.
20. Welcome Hi nice to see another locel musician
21. Just asked because on eBay a couple of Jap squires, serial beginning with P (1995-96) have had sold, or left with no bids even though the price was well below 200 pound
22. A quick one. Are all jap squier equal, or are some better then others? Jap squier oe MIM fender?
23. if it's tight it will work
24. I don’t mind Slap bass if played with feel. Slap bass if funky, funk is about space, syncopation and feel. When I see a band sound check and the bass players blurts out a rapid succession of slapped triplets. which then is usually followed by a widdle widdle on guitar my heart sinks a good indication of a bad band and players. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with fast slap bass in the right context and in the hands of a musician IE Marcus miller, Mark King. Louis Johnson, and many others but groove over speed or dexterity. Some people play bass, while others are bass players
