1. Has anyone had any experience of buying hardware from the States (tuning keys specifically) and are there any other charges involved - aprt, obviously, from delivery? I appreciate buying guitars involves thing like import duty, VAT and customs clearance charges. Is it the same for smaller items? Thanks, Mark
2. I've just acquired a new Yamaha TRB 1004 and was trying to identify the strings it's come with. They've no silks and the ball ends are different colours - brass, red, black and green from E - G. I've never come across them before but they sound great. Anyone any ideas? Thanks, Mark

4. Ian, The Zoot I posted about on your thread a few days ago is also listes as for sale. Have a look and let me know if you've interested in discussing a trade? Cheers, Mark
5. When I was younger - about 20 years ago - I used to have guys who were younger than me who would turn up to gigs and just stand there staring at my left hand. And, of course, I used to think I was the dog's bollocks! I like to think I've got a bit more humility now and I can recognise that, yes, I was a competent player in a small town, but that was as far as it went. And, of course, if your playing draws that much attention to itself them it might be a lot of things but music is unlikely to be one of them! So, now, twenty odd years later, I had the best compliment I've ever received when someone came up to me after a gig a few weeks ago and told me how much they liked my sound. And that's because, for all his chops, the thing I really connected with about Jaco's playing was the incredible sound he got. I still can't listen to the intro of 'Dream Clock' or 'Edith and the Kingpin' without thinking of someone crying. To be able to produce something with that much emotion in just a few well chosen notes would be good enough for me. I mean, I'm sure my playing might have made a few people in the audience cry in the past, but you know what I mean... Mark
6. One last *BUMP* before ebay this afternoon. How sad is this - I'm the only person to have replied to my own thread! Oh, woe is me.
7. A quick *BUMP* before the ebay monster appears this weekend...
8. *BUMP* Now come on, folks - someone out there must want to be the envy of bass players in their audience whilst cutting through the mix like a knife through butter...
9. Ah, thanks for that bf. Christ, 21db cut or boost - that's more than most amplifiers!
10. Whoops - sorry, didn't realise the first photo was quite as blurred. It's not like that in the flesh - honest!
11. Okay, folks, I think that, as nice as this is, it’s going to have to go after another more recent and somewhat rash purchase. This is a Tobias Toby Pro in what might best be described as translucent blood red. It was previously owned by Greene King (Wraithrider – Peter) and I took in part ex against my Les Evans when I sold that to Pete. I believe it may have made its way to one of the more recent bass bashes, so a few of you may be familiar with the bass. It’s got a very fast and comfortable neck and is very well made – neck through construction and very comfortable body contouring etc. Pete swapped out the stock pickups and preamp - which I understand were always a weak point – and has upgraded it significantly with EMG pickups and two band pre-amp. Consequently it’s got a very good range of tones on offer, from the classic ‘hi fi’ EMG tone when things are set flat to a really nice, punchy finger style-type sound if you pan towards the bridge pickup, roll off the treble and boost the bass a bit – mmm, nice. Pretty much as new condition – I’ve looked really hard and can’t find a mark on it. See: The pick up and preamp swap makes (so I am told) a big improvement from the stock bass, though the original pickups and tone controls will be included in the sale too. No hard case but a fairly okay gig bag is included. I’d prefer collection rather than trust to delivery, seeing as there’s no hard case, but I can also meet you half way up to a reasonable distance from Chester. Any other questions or if anyone wants to try before they buy, just shoot me a PM. Oh, and price wise – I’m looking for £340. Thanks, Mark
12. Hi Ian, Okay, I'll drop Bernie an e-mail. The 5 string I may have available (I stress may) is a Blueburst Zoot Custom with EMG Musicman and Jazz pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp. It's also got LED's. I've had it a few weeks and am still getting to grips with it as I've always been a 4 string player. I'm finding it easy enough to get on with but if I don't use the low B then I'd have to admit there's little point in keeping it really. Cheers, Mark
13. Ian, Can you tell me anything about the electrics - are the pickups single coil or humbuckers? What's the preamp spec? I've got a five string I'm thinking about moving on (and really only thinking about at the moment) which you might be interested in. Cheers, Mark
14. No one's fault but my own for being something of a tit. Still, they were charming enough to point that (apparently) they would be only too willing to loan me £7.5k any time I feel like it. They're good like that, banks, don't you think?

16. I dropped you guys a small donation by Paypal yesterday, realised my Paypal account was still set up to take funds from my Bank Account rather than my credit and that, being the day before pay day, said donation would take me over my overdraft limit! Spent the next 20 mins on the phone to the bank sweet talking them so they wouldn't hit with a unarranged borrowing charge. Oh, how we laughed!
17. BC is 44, short, balding and at least slightly overweight. Despite have a relatively responsible job, has yet to work out how to insert an avatar in his signature. Been playing bass for not far short of 30 years. Nearest brush with fame was his band appearing in a 'Top Ten Worst Band Names of All Time' poll in a Middlesex Poly student magazine in the mid-80's when playing with Lord Lucan and the Lookalikes back in Colchester, from whence he originally came. Lives in Chester with Wifey and works in Wrexham (hi, beerdragon!). Desperately tries to make up for singular failure to achieve any kind of attention through his (self-styled) bass playing virtuosity by participating in amateur acting. Thereby finding another pastime he achieve lasting lack of recognition...Great personality though! BC. xxx
18. Bass Culture signed in and ready for action - with the added bonus that I've got a space in the middle of my 'handle'. Thanks to all the Admins and Mods. I'm in awe of anyone who can this kind of technical stuff. And I'm not saying I lack confidence in our latest incarnation but I'm going to register 'Bassnatter' and 'Bassbollocks' just in case!
