I can only advise to make it as flat as possible and use a lot of references to make your mix as close to whatever your reference track is. Like I said it will never be ideal because a well treat room cost a lot and we usually do not have the space to create such room. I think that package you are buying comes with both (room and headphones) so I would then get the CanOpener to test my mixes with headphones, that will take it close to your speakers and will give you more points of reference (with CO and without). That's what I would do.

Only headphones, if you're talking about monitors then Sonarworks is the best way to go, cheaper than IK Multimedia and still gives you great results. The issue is that no matter what room you have the calibration will ensure your monitors will operate at the flattest possible. It's not ideal but there's no such thing when you have a home recording or small studio environment.

I used them for 9 months (Free from Focusrite) and I liked it. Now to be honest you can do better work with Morphit paired with CanOpener. If you can't find a de-bleeder you can always use this technique and it works a wonder.

If you can't get along with Reaper you can try Tracktion Waveform 11 (free version). Very easy to use and totally free or if you're using Windows you can get Cakewalk (another great DAW and totally free).

If you have Cubase, it already comes with everything you need for mixing your songs. All you'll ever need is EQ, compression, saturation, reverb and delay which Cubase has very good ones. Unless you are looking for analogue emulation plugins or something special. If that's not the case then you have every plugin you need. My advice will be to learn those first and if there's something you want to do and you can't by using the stock plugins then go buy some more.

As a person who needs structure to be able to learn anything I appreciate that he decided to provide a proper learning journey to new students. I hate most online schools are all they do is chuck courses and let you to your own devices. This could be a real game changer which guide players much like traditional schools do where once you're done with the Syllabus then you can pick and choose any other extra courses targeting specific subjects but this means you'll be able to make the best out of them because you are well familiar with the material imparted because the foundation was already well laid along "The Path". Kudos to him, he has created a great online resource and now I think more people will be able to make the most out of it.
