  1. I ran 1k+ kit for years & if you treated the sub as an afterthought somewhere 'over there' - It didn't happen.
Admittedly, I'm a sound system not a band, so that might make a difference.....(?)

  2. I ran a pair of the 'revolutionary' Celestion SR1, plus subs for a few years.....don't think the spec was that different (subs were heavier, obv) tops were 2x10 in a plastic moulded cabs at 28lbs each - I think. After about two hours the mid-range seriously hurt.
I hope Alex has done a lot of actual listening tests here, I wish him well, if he's got it right,it's a fabulous concept.

  3. I've had the odd issue with attempted non-payment, best one was at a very swish golf club where my ex had to corner the booker in the Ladies loo - He promised to put a cheque through the next day - did too, but only because I'd gigged in the same social set for years & his name would have stunk....in answer to the above (just posted) - promoter would have a perfect right to sue if you incur them in a loss of income....I've been on both sides, as a promoter, I've never bothered, it's too much bother..........

  4. It's not about 'representing our music' it's about entertainment, per Se.
Many years ago I was driving a cab and one passenger was a musical director for the Beeb
he told me he wrote Boom Bang a Bang expressly for Lulu to win Eurovision - which it did.
I don't dislike this one, it's very retro, a la Mitford/Cliveden (look it up)
...might yet be in with a chance........

  5. The Cash Converters route always worries me - when they started out (some time ago now) they were the first place that our local Plod called on if someone had a video recorder nicked...'course that was back in the day............

  6. I'm afraid this gets the thumbs down from me - This would look great as a shop window display - It would need padded gig boxes (yet more weight) and it just don't work financially - Bill FM has already commented on the sonic stuff and who am I to argue with him - get a degree in design by all means, but a gig kit designer you ain't.........(sorry...)

  7. 1) Check your impedances are ok for the amp - if in doubt email Barefaced, they are very good.
2)Some valve amps aren't designed for bass, the preamp (tone control front end) is the key to this,
any competent amptech should be able to tell you/do a mod - it's usually only a couple of cheap
    bits to add/remove.....
    3)Do it !

  8. See, the problem I have with all this twaddle (how do you do the 'cross out' thing?) stuff is that I come from the 'bung another 83 in & it'll work' generation - and, amazingly, it did !

  9. Had an amazing hotel in deepest Oxfordshire (s'probably retirement flats by now) that my agent used to throw at me when they were up sh*t creek - we demanded food as part of the gig (been doing a local carnival all day, had to drop everything to get to the hotel)-got there and their faces fell (the dislike was mutual) - anyways they grudgingly supplied us with tea and fingers of toast with something fishy on them........about ten minutes in we were asked to turn it down, because of complaints from an elderly guest that some idiot had put in directly above the function room - said complaints continued until we were playing lower than lift music, so after about an hour, we extracted our money and left...never saw the place again, thank goodness....

    :)
