1. Corvette for me, although I'm not adversed to the Streamer either
2. How do I go about it? I need to get the broken nut out of my Jazz, but I've no idea how to do it. It's stuck in pretty good. I dunno what with, if it's glued in or if its just a really tight fit, but what's the best way to remove one?
3. Ebay, as much as it pains me to say it. I've had 2 now from this seller in the US. InsightOut Music $11 for shipping to the UK, and the price is low enough that you wont have to pay customs on it, think the customs allowance is under £33. You'll have to get the saddles filed, but that shouldn't cost too much. And it's about 1/3 of the price you'd pay buying it from WD in the UK. Definite thumbs up from me.
4. Has anyone tried the Graphtech trem nuts? Any good?
5. Looking at the remains of the nut, the string slot on the low E was more of a square cut than a semi circle i.e straight lines and 90 degree angles than an nice, smooth cut, thats probably a big factor in it. Think I might try one off ebay, perhaps not Tusq, but at a fiver if it doesn't work it's hardly a major loss.
6. The original nut on my Jazz was very low down, and when I swapped to a Badass bridge the low E would jump out of the nut slot if I detuned to D (which I do, a lot). So my local tech made me a new nut, a Graph Tech one at a cost of £20. It was fine, good action, but the other night I was playing and a large chunk broke off, from the bottom of the low E slot to the top edge of the nut. I didn't hit it too hard, and I've hit harder, so I was a bit gutted when it broke. My question is, do I get my tech to make me a new one using the spare blank he gave me, or will a new precut form eBay do? There's several one eBay just now from very reputable dealers, precut to fit Jazz's and P basses. Has anyone got any experience of buying precut nuts? I don't want to spend money on a precut nut if it going to have the same problems as the original Fender one, but I don't want to spend even more on one being made for me just for it to break again.
7.
Make your own you wooos!
Don't have the time, materials, tools, money or skill I posted a request for a 'plate in the Wanted section of the Marketplace, and was put onto Highly Strung, buying a new white pearl guard from there tomorrow after the wages are in! Some very positive feedback about them so I'm settled. Also, I used WD myself when I was after replacement knobs for the Jazz and some new allen keys. After phoning to ask if the knobs would fit the pot shaft and being told they would, they didn't, and they didn't send the allen key I'd ordered. I returned them, and they sent me the same wrong parts again. Eventually had to ask for a refund, which they did, no problems at all. Bit disappointed, but the P-bass plate it excellent, really top drawer.
8. Any word on the Ashdown stuff yet? Looking for some Ashdown stuff.
9. The scratchplate for my precision I got from WD didnt go on as easily as I'd hoped, a bit of force was needed to get it over the pickup but it was a pretty snug fit once I'd snapped it into place. I spent ages last night scouring eBay, and decided to get a genuine Fender one, seems the only way to avoid the will it fit/wont it hassle of buy from a parts supplier. Found one from the states, gonna be about £11 inc. postage.
10. El bumpo! My birthdays in less than 4 weeks and I've been after an Ashdown, may give you a PM if it's still about!
11. I think the price is a bit optimistic. Fair enough, the guy paid a lot for it and wants a decent return for it, but no one's gonna pay that much for something that they can get new for a similar price, or for a few hundred quid less if they're aren't bothered about buying new. It's £40 for shipping too, whereas loads of shops do free delivery, and you can post a bass yourself if you're selling privately for about £10-15. Also trying to flog you're gear on a forum with your first post isn't cool either.
12. I prefer more traditional looking basses (Js/Ps/SGs) but someone on here's selling a very nice Schecter Rick-a-like, it looks the biz. YUM!!
13.
acrylic's very dense, so I'd expect you'd get a lot of sustain and lows (Charlie Jones said that about his first see-thru bass) , but not much resonant snap. ps. a Status Stealth or a Steinberger cricket bat is entirely plastic too!
I like sustain and lows! Might have a little scout about for an acrylic body.
14. Who are the best parts retailers in the UK? I'm looking to get a new scratchplate for my MIM Jazz and there's similar ones on both Allparts and WD but the price difference is a tenner. Has anyone had experience with the two companies? I have a WD scratchplate on my Precision and it's pretty good. Who would I be better off buying from? The Allparts site doesn't say what models their plates fit, while WD has plates for all models. Or is there another company thats better than the two and I just haven't come across them yet?
15. Does acrylic work as well as wood in terms of sound? Is it just as resonant as wood? I would've thought an entirely plastic bass would sound kind of cheap, but I may be wrong.
16.
For retro styling I personally prefer the looks of Eastwood The EUB-1 and Classic 4 in particular look very tasty...
EUB-1 -1 Classic 4 +1! The walnut one looks fantastic! Anyone tried them? Its $500, so I'd take a guess at it being between £400 and £500 over here, but would it be worth it?
17. Mine is sage green, same as the ones that can be found here. I'm to lazy to photgraph my own. Really wish I'd got white now, but you don't see many of these about: Sage Green Fender Jazz's I'm emphatically NOT a fan of the one with the tortie scratchplate (I know it's a Precision, but bleurgh!). I'm actually missing the scratchplate, I took it off because I couldn't get the sticker residue off and never got round to replacing it. If anyone has a cheap white pearl one give me a shout!
18. I'm confused about APC's charges. I can't find anywhere where I can find a quote. Would I be better to phone the nearest depot to find out how much it'll cost? It's Peavey combo that weighs roughly 40kg.
19. I've been thinking about buying parts off of ebay such as a body/neck/pickups/hardware and assembling a fender type bass. Are there any problems associated with this? I've been told that the neck and body might not join up properly and throw off the intonation and alignment, is that true?
20. On the Interparcel website you have the option of using either interparcel or city link, are they part of the same company? and from what I've gathered, interparcel = good, city link = bad. Is interparcel a safe bet? I can get added insurance too i think.
21. I've got tendinitis in my left wrist, and a few months ago (in May I think) I had it in my right wrist, probably because I've spent the last 10 years playing bass according to my doctor. I'm currently wearing on of those supports you get, it's like a big tube of elasticated material, but what other ailments have folk had as a result of bass/guitar playing? Just so I know what I can expect
22. Some people have more money than sense
23. That doesn't seem bad at all. £60 off the rrp, free delivery, stand and strings (although at £8 a set they'll not be fantastic), and Squier stuff's pretty decent, I have a Squier tele and strat and they're both excellent, the neck on my strat's better than some Fenders I've tried. I'd probably replace the pickups on it though, the pickups on my strat were quite weak, but the tele isn't bad at all. You get a choice of colours too, sunburst looks good with the tortoise shell scratchplate.
24. I wouldn't have said it was a Burns, but possibly a Burns-styled copy. Flight of the Conchords are from New Zealand, could it possibly be by a company from NZ? EDIT: Also, that neck looks feckin' huge!
25. I know I posted pretty much the same thing in the General Bass Discussion bit, but what service do people on here use to post amps? I need to post my Peavey amp but I don't want to have to charge the buyer loads for it. I was told about Interparcel, who are charging about £30 for end of next day delivery. Has anyone else had experience with posting such huge amps?
