  1. Fender 9050L Flatwound Bass Strings, .045-.100. I bought them at the start of the year and had them fitted to my P Bass but they're too bright for me so I recently swapped them out for a set of Elites Detroit flats. Cut for a top-loading P Bass with about 2 or 3 winds on the tuner post. Silks are light green with very little wear. Can add a picture if required. Price includes postage.

  2. I'm moving house in a few weeks so I'm going through some bits and pieces and clearing out stuff I'm not using.

Bought from Strung Out Guitars in Glasgow about this time last year for £60, but I've hardly used it. Some light surface marks but in full working order. This is the 18v version which requires 2 9v batteries (included). The 18v is apparently more sought-after than the later 9v version, more headroom or something.

  3. I'm moving house in a few weeks so I'm going through some bits and pieces and clearing out what I don't need. I've had this just over a year but I've only used it a handful of times. It's in excellent condition and comes with the original box and manual (and sticker). Postage can be arranged for an additional fiver.PXL_20230822_134445907.thumb.jpg.cf55b2bac130354867b7fc5b25f2e23d.jpgPXL_20230822_134510829.thumb.jpg.48a5c8ea5308fb216565860910debb3b.jpg

It does, I was thinking of the Shell Pink that Squier used on the Classic Vibe Bass VI and Jaguar/Jazzmasters (plus a few Mexican Fender models). They did a Squier Paranormal Super Sonic in Shell Pink that looks to be the same as the Rascal, and it was much closer to the "correct" shade IMO. The few pictures & videos I've seen of the Shell Pink Rascal look very good, I just need to try and get a shot of one first to see how I get on with the scale and the neck.

I’ve toured with a session player who sometimes took out re-logoed Squiers to gigs he wouldn’t want to take a vintage Fender to. Decent gigs as well, JTQ, Incognito, Paul Weller etc.

Otherwise I remember seeing Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys playing a white Squier Vista Musicmaster at T In The Park festival in ‘98. Also the bassist from indie band The Cribs who had a signature Squier bass, Joe Dart briefly used a borrowed and modded CV precision, Mikey Way had his signature Mustang, the bassist (and guitarist) from Los Angeles cumbia-punk band Thee Commons played and endorsed Squiers, although they’re with Fender now. Frank Bello had a signature Squier bass, so did Mike Dirnt although he had signature Fenders as well. Have seen many bands at big festivals where the bassists are using Squier Jaguar basses too.

There’s probably loads of others but these spring to mind right now.

A Gary Jarman Sig has just turned up on eBay, but you'll never guess the asking price.

Matt Freeman of Rancid had a signature Precision that he often used live, as well as his vintage Fenders. I had both the black and white versions and they're the only basses I truly regret selling.

    Maybe... 😄

I was tempted to put a bid in on it but I remembered that I'd had the same one before and it was a bit too heavy for me. It was a great bass though

I have a Fender Rascal and it feels more like you're playing a 34" scale bass than something like a Fender Mustang.

It was a Musicmaster I had. It all felt a bit too small. My worry is that the frets will feel too close together, and the position of the bridge is where I would normally put my hand on the likes of a P.

Lobster has done a full review now and they sound niiiiice!

I'm very tempted by these but I'll need to try it out before I buy one. I've only had one short scale experience and it wasn't for me.

  10. Sometimes you just get an itch for something different and it's only with hindsight that you realise that you should have probably stuck with what you had. I sold a USA Fender Precision years ago and used the proceeds to build a Jazz from parts that was pretty underwhelming. Last year I sold a MIJ Precision and built another 50s-style P. The new bass is nice, but after finishing the build I realised that I'd have probably been better off keeping the MIJ. Perhaps the moral of the story is that I shouldn't build my own bitsas.

Ohhh, have you seen that Shell Pink one anywhere online? Can't seem to find it on the Squier site or any other retailers.

GAK have the Sherwood green one for £380 and that's mighty tempting!

A guy I follow on Instagram posted that they were showing briefly on the Fender website, but weren't available anywhere and were taken down. Possibly a CME/Anderton's exclusive like the some of the Bass VI models were. I wouldn't get it myself; the "Shell Pink" used by Fender nowadays isn't pastel enough to be Shell Pink IMO

  12. Sent my P Bass build away to David Wilson for a refinish. It was 3-tone sunburst, but is now sonic blue. The picture doesn't pick up the true colour, it's a fair bit lighter in real life. It's got a light relic finish, similar to the Fender Journeyman CS relics.

Specs are: a Fender MIJ 70s P body, Fender Road Worn 50s P neck, Creamery Classic '58 pickup, Fender anodised aluminium pickguard, ashtrays, knobs, and tugbar, Squier JV reverse gear tuners, Hosco threaded saddle bridge, and Gotoh strap buttons, string tree, and neck plate.

The issue I have with basswood is it’s soft. This means screw holes can over time could lose its catch. Dings (which doesn’t really bother me ) are more easy to happen.

I can purchase a late 80’s mij pb-70 ash body/ maple neck with us pick ups for around the same price.

for me I felt the pick ups didn’t complement the basswood or vice versa.

Are dings more likely to happen with basswood? It's still got several layers of finish over it, which will pick up marks before the wood does.

Plenty of love for AC from

me and was quite tempted right up to the point where my expected price point turned out to spectacularly off the mark!

Funnily enough, it was almost exactly as expensive as I expected it to be; not that I think it's probably worth that much, just that everything new seems overpriced to me these days.

  15. I bought these back in December for my P Bass build but I've decided not to stick with them. The link to the original sale thread is below as I'm not in the house at the minute, but they're as they were when I received them. They work perfectly fine and sound good, but I'm going to swap it for the same Creamery pickup as I have in my JV Precision.

One thing to point out is that I felt that the white wire was a little short. It can be soldered to the pot, but it was a bit fiddly. My P has separate routs for the pickup and control cavities, so the wire needs to be fed through a small hole to go from one to the other, but if you've got a channel running between the two as a lot of modern basses have, it should be easier (or maybe I'm just a bit ham-fisted).

Price is the same as I paid, and includes postage.
