I checked back through my messages and the body is from a 2011 Fender Japan Classic Series 70s Precision like the one below, which is apparently alder but I can't be 100% on that, it could potentially be ash:

The nut width is 1 & 3/4", or a hair over 44mm.

I forgot to mention that I also have a gold anodized aluminium pickguard that I'll include as well. It's a genuine Fender part, but it doesn't quite fit the heel of the neck so would take a bit of fettling to make it work.

Up for sale is my Sonic Blue Fender 50s-ish Precision. I put this together using mostly Fender parts.

The body is from a MIJ PB70 that I had stripped and refinished in Sonic Blue nitro with a light relic. This work was done by David Wilson. The neck is a MIM Classic 50s neck that I bought on here. The pickup is a Classic '58 from The Creamery. The bridge is a Hosco threaded saddle bridge that I've lightly aged to match the aged Gotoh neck plate, strap buttons, and string tree. The ashtrays, thumb rest, and knobs are Fender, the wiring is from KiOgon on here, and the pick guard is a mint green MIJ fit from earlpilanz in eBay. It fits the body fine but there's a slight gap at the neck heel. One point to note is that the tuners in the picture are Gotoh, but they'll be replaced with the stock Fender reverse gear tuners; my mistake!

It's obviously got a few intended marks on the body due to the relic finish. The neck has one ding on the back around the 12th fret but other than that it's perfect. It's a great player and quite lightweight. It's a great player as well and the neck is nice and straight. All in this cost me about a grand to put together, the refinish being the most costly part of it. I'll include a Fender gig bag and postage is an option.

I thought that the pickguard on my P was parchment and was going to send a link to the guy who made it, but on checking the order confirmation it's actually vintage white and they don't do parchment at all. Vintage white is in the same ballpark as parchment, if you're interested.

Way too much if he can't guarantee the provenance of the parts. The neck might be worth £100 or so given the condition

I haven't bought one, though I did consider it for my Telebass. I've had a couple of Precision pickups from Jaime before and they're great.

The body is a Harley Benton that’s been crudely drilled. You can tell by the bridge, so it’s worth £30 at most.

 

I’d guess the neck is the same that has been reshaped and a knock-off neck plate has been added.

 

The case is likely to be worth more than the bass.

 

I'm not sure its a Harley Benton body, the pickup looks too near to the bridge when it should be further forward, just below the waist of the bass. The pickguard and control plate are somewhat similar to an HB, but not quite. I'd have guessed it was an old Japanese/far Eastern copy, but it could be anything really. If the neck works and is decent nick it could be worth a few quid on its own, but the rest is a mess. I'd be interested to know what the seller's asking for. Presumably enough to buy himself some new socks.

I'd take a punt that the neck is from a Fender Bullet Bass. The three tuners that match look correct for that model.

Ashdown ABM EVO III 500 head. I bought this a few months ago but haven't found a use for it and doubt I will any time soon. If you're wondering why it doesn't look quite right, it's a wide version that were produced when there were a surplus combo units and not enough head units to meet demand. The amps were taken out of the combo chassis and placed into head sleeves, hence the additional vents at either side. The chap I bought this from told me that the chassis had been damaged at some point in time and when he contacted Ashdown about a replacement, they told him that they didn't produce them anymore; however they said it would fit into an ABM EVO IV 900 chassis, which is why there's a gap of about an inch or so at the bottom. 

I accept that the "uniqueness" (putting it politely) of the amp means it's somewhat undesirable and has been priced accordingly, but it all works well and is a very good amp which shouldn't let you down. 

Collection from Glasgow preferred, shipping seems somewhat unfeasible at the moment.

1982/83 Squier JV Precision that has been restored somewhat, and is far from original. I bought it about 3 years ago in a bit of a sorry state. It had been fitted with a Jazz Bass pickup in the bridge at some point which had been filled (badly) and then refinished in Fiesta Red (also badly). Whatever had been used to fill the pickup route had shrunk as it dried and left a visible gap around the edge of it. I sent the body away to David Wilson to strip it, fill the routing, and spray it in a faded shell pink nitro. He did a very good job of it, though there's an outline of the old J pickup route that can be seen under certain lights, but is virtually impossible to photograph. It's picked up some bumps and scuffs since it was refinished, the worst of which I've pictured. There are a couple on the neck and headstock which have been accrued over the last 40 years, but nothing major.

The original tortoiseshell pickguard had been drilled for an additional pot, and the cutout for the pickup had been crudely filed at some point. I had a parchment pickguard made by Earlpilanz which is a perfect fit. I fitted a 65 Precision pickup from the Creamery; the wiring and the bridge had already been replaced at some point. The JV neck plate had developed a curve over the years, probably from being overtightened, but as chance would have it, I had a Squier SQ neck plate which was a direct replacement; the old Japanese neck screws were much beefier than the standard ones that most basses have today. 

The neck is entirely original as far as I can tell. The frets are in good nick and the tuners are truss rod work as they should. It's got a nice rosewood fretboard and is strung with Dunlop flats and plays really nicely. Weight is 4.23kg/9lb 5oz.

Short version: body, neck, tuners, strap buttons are all original. The finish, bridge, pickguard, knobs, thumb rest, neck plate and pickup are not. The original pickguard and neck plate will be included.

I've got a couple of brand new Fender gig bags knocking about so I'll include one of those, and I have boxes up in the loft so shipping is possible. 

I wasn't sure how to price it. The whole thing cost me well over a grand, but if you think I'm wide of the mark then let me know.

There's a fair few folk in various TalkBass "51/Tele bass" threads have the Squiers  and none of them were complaining 😎 A couple of the "buy to mod" crowd ventured in to say they'd bought Duncan QPs, only to discover they don't fit.

 

Serves them right for having such poor taste in pickups 🤣

I've never seen the appeal of Quarter Pounders myself; I assume people are of the belief that higher output is better somehow but they lack any subtlety or warmth imo. The reason the Matt Freeman I mentioned earlier in the thread cost me £200 was because it came with a QP fitted. I put the stock pickup back in and sold the QP (possibly on here) for 50 quid. The bass cost me £250 initially. It's part of the reason why I would only refer to 'modifications' rather than 'upgrades'; an upgrade is subjective and just because you spent an extra £100 on a new pickup, doesn't mean it better than what was there originally.

While nowhere near as pretty it's this £80 Harley Benton which gets played. The Benton neck is far more comfortable than the Fender's and it sounds better too, thanks to that brilliant (discontinued) Wilkinson single coil 🙂 Apart from changing the strings for TI flats this PB-50 remains as it was when Thomann shipped it, April 2014 😎

 

That Paisley Precision is lovely, is it the Fender MIJ RI? I've wanted one of those for a while.

I recently spent big bucks on a Vintera Telecaster Bass and I love it, but I find myself playing a Squier CV 50s Precision more at the moment. Possibly because I've only had it a week and a half, but there's something about it that I find much more enjoyable to play than any of the basses I've spent much more on.

The best bass I've ever owned was a Squier Matt Freeman Precision that cost me about £200. It's the one bass that I truly regret selling, particularly when I see how much they go for now in the rare occasions when they actually come up for sale! It played and sounded brilliant, and looked the dog's unmentionables as well. I had a couple of snide comments at gigs about it being a Squier but I never let it bother me. I could have had something fancier and more expensive but I didn't feel I needed it.

Badass II Bridge in chrome. I bought this on here a couple of months ago but I ended up not using it. I was going to hang onto it but I'm clearing the decks for another daft idea I've had.

Good condition, full working order, and I'll throw in an Allen key that I bought for it as none of the millions of keys I already would fit the saddle screws. Price is what I paid for it and includes postage.

Anyone need a guitar box for shipping? I've got one going spare, with a few additional bits of cardboard to fill it out on the inside if anyone needs it.

I always like the look of Jazzes but once I get one in my hands I know they're not for me. I like the look of Alembic-style copies made by the like of Greco and Kawai, and things like Hohner The Jack too.

It's only been a month since I picked up my Vintera Telecaster Bass so I wasn't expecting any more incomings, but I spotted this online and the price was too good to pass up. A 2010 Squier Classic Vibe 50s Precision Bass in butterscotch blonde. I'd wanted one for a few years but they don't come up very often. It's in 9/10 condition with just a couple of tiny dings in not-very-visible places. I restrung it with a set of flats I had in my parts box and it plays very nicely and sounds pretty good to boot.

The Creamery are UK-based. I don't have any of their Jazz pickups but I have their pickups in both my Precisions and they're very good. I'm half tempted to try their 51 P and Wide Range Bass Humbucker as well.

I also spotted this on Gumtree. I was half tempted for the price but having already bought two basses in the space of a month, I don't think I could justify a third.

earlpilanz (Brian) on eBay is about £30 for a custom pickguard, but it varies depending on size. Send him your pickguard, he'll trace it and CNC it, and send them both back to you. You'll probably have them both back in a week.

Have the ends been cut off at all?

Excellent necks on these. I had a Road Worn 50s Precision neck on one of my basses and swapped it for one of these when one came up a few months ago, it's miles better.
