Were not some of the ‘80’s Squier Ps 32”scale?

Yes, I believe they did a series of these in the E-serial period (1984-1987). I've always wanted one. I once found one local to me. I made an offer and the seller accepted, but between all emails he got about the bass he lost mine and he sold it to someone else. I found out from their NBD thread on a Dutch forum :dash1:

Those 1980s MIJ Fenders and Squiers are fantastic. I have little experience with the basses, but a 1985 E-series Squier Strat has been my number one for many years. Best €175 I ever spent.

There were medium scale JVs as well:

How does that type of Fender pickup compare to a Gibson mudbucker?

I played a 70’s SG bass in Wye Fret a couple of weeks ago and now I want a mudbucker bass!

I've got a Vintera Telecaster Bass and it's a hard pickup to define. It's not overly muddy, certainly has more focus to it than my old EB-3, but it's not as articulate as a P Bass. It drives my amp with very little effort. "Built for power, not for speed" is how I saw them described once.

I've got a white Matt Freeman Squier precision with Seymour Duncan upgrade that I'm looking to move on for about £350 in a hardcase.

Excellent condition, hardly gigged, non-smoker etc etc etc

Bargain. I've had four of them over the years, one was my main gigging bass for years. I bought one at the end of last year but I've gotten used to lighter basses and rounder radiuses in the intervening years so could really gel with it unfortunately.

  4. I'm looking at something with a Pau Ferro fingerboard but I've never tried one before. The colour of the wood notwithstanding (I find it to often be too light and streaky for my taste but the one I'm looking at is quite dark and even), what's the grain and texture like compared to the traditional rosewood? I've tried instruments with Indian Laurel fretboards before and really didn't like it; it felt very dry even when it had been recently oiled and had a very open grain that you could comfortably stick a fingernail into.

You've piqued my interest - solid colour or trans refin? Picture?

It was a black poly finish to match the body of my Squier Bass VI.

One day ill have the cash and my JV will be refinished in Sherwood Green by Dave Wilson.

Dave's done three basses for me (and one headstock). Thoroughly recommended.

Indeed, but the idea of Leo Fender was not really moding, but fixing an instrument by changing the problematic part with another faster than fast and not spending time on repair: a typical moto from the post war society and the consumerism.

In this scenario though, the 51-style neck would have a squared off heel rather than a rounded one like the later Precisions, so would have required a fair bit of work to make them fit. It's a rosewood fingerboard too, so the more likely scenario is a reshaped headstock IMO

First up, maple FL Precision, Shuker neck that is rather wonderful, 70's Daion MIJ body that has that 'I'm genuinely old and not reliced' vibe, EMG Geezers, and yes, LOLLIPOPS :)

It's not a responder so the Badass is coming off to be replaced by a nice 70's RI BBOT

    That's a cracker

  9. This is my bitsa; Fender AVRI 62 neck, Fender MIJ P Bass body refinished in sonic blue nitro, a Creamery pickup, and a mix of Gotoh, Hosco, and Fender hardware. It's very light, coming in at 3-point-nine-something kg.

I have a CV 70's with the same hi mass I swapped it out for a Hosco vintage bridge, all holes lined up perfectly except one of the outer ones, but I found I could still get the screw in and irlt was fine. Hope this helps.

Not wishing to derail the thread further, but I put a Hosco bridge on a Sonic Blue 60s CV P and 4 of the holes required filling and redrilling. I've yet to find a direct drop in for the Chinese CV bridges.

Photo of case please ? How is it different to a regular squier ? Excuse my ignorance of Matt freeman please

Pictures of the case as requested. I'm not sure what constitutes a regular Squier, but these were made in the same factory as the original Chinese Classic Vibe range, so is of a similar standard. It's modelled on Freeman's own 70s P Bass and has a hotter pickup than the Classic Vibes had, as well as a separate maple finger board (no skunk stripe).

Because these are period accurate, hence the RI.

Those tuners wouldn't have been used in 62, they'd still have been reverse gear tuners with a different shape baseplate
