If you're in communication with them about a rebooking I'd take the opportunity to tell them exactly why you won't be coming back. Venues need to offer much better support to entertainers than you received.

They do tend to be in the 'look at me, aren't I fabulous' category. Bass players in that category tend to be the worst of the lot but are thankfully few and far between.

I use an Ampeg Scrambler and a recently acquired EHX Battalion (both standard pedal size). The Scrambler gives a nice bit of low gain breakup (but will do much more) and the Battalion gives a much more aggressive drive. Gigged it for the first time last night and got lots of positive feedback.
