1. Hi All, Just to get the word out that performances will be continuing from September this year. The band have been busy with auditions and I'm proud to have been chosen for the bass players position. Loads of material to learn and many hours of study but I'm hoping to give a worthy performance for the fans and hope to live up to the excellent standards that have been set by my predecessors. Please visit the website (www.perfect-alibi.co.uk) if you're interested in knowing more about the band and I look forward to seeing some of you at future gigs. Many Thanks, Chu
2. Hello, for sale is my bass cab, she's a biggy. Bought this new in July 2011, now selling due to wanting something a little smaller. Don't mistake this for the lower spec classic 810 by Ashdown, this one has the custom neodymium drivers which just sound amazing; this special order cab retails at £1250. I'm after £400 which I think is cracking value for what this cab delivers. Will take p/x for a decent 4x10 or a 6x10, I'm also interested in a good quality fretless (£400-£500 for a trade) or a fretted (£200-£300 for a trade plus close to £200 cash) thats cheap enough for me not to think twice about converting it to fretless in my own time. Link to Electro Music - http://www.electromu...ic-Neo-810.html Power: 1050W Peak: 2050W Imp: 4 Ohm The drivers have been played in nicely, cab has had approx 150 hours use, mostly studio and at home. There is slight cosmetic damage to the back of the cab on the covering, a bulb got too close and melted a patch about 10mm in diameter but not that noticable. The front top right corner protector has flattenned slightly but this was done in transit by courier when I bought it and I never got round to replacing it. Included in the sale is a guitar stand which I custom built for the cab that hooks over the top of the cab and attaches to the carry bar at the back so you can hang your bass on the front. Collection from New Milton, Hampshire (BH25). Will courier myself local for cost or free for the right deal. Any questions, please feel free to drop me an email/text/call. Many thanks, Ben
3. Hi Guys, still for sale. Will take close offers. Many thanks, Chu
4.
Mancini would be proud.
Thats far too much general knowledge you have - It's amazing what you can fit in a G String Besides....
Drat, you sound better on a block of wood than I do on my £100 fretless Great stuff I now have for a bit of 3x2 pine....
Where's our rendition of Captain Planet??? - I have been egging myself into playing a funked up Inspector Gadget personally but will this require the manufacture of a MkII to give the piece a little more justice??
5. Well yes, I am. I don't like compressing the hell out of things so only have a little on to smooth it out slightly, I leave the rest to my fingers. I have found the compression on the Joyo quite subtle though, so i find it just right for me. The bottom end hold up fine IMO but my rig can pump out the low end and punch you in the nuts at the best of times
6. I had one of these for about 5 years and it was always the complaint of the keyboard player. Mine was in an enclosure. The fan speed doesn't vary, it's just frickin loud. I always wanted to pop a low noise fan in but never got around to it; when I left the fusion band and started playing more rock again - never heard the bloody thing! lol Nice amp but I was never sure of the 1508 I had - it did sound a hell of a lot better through a 410 IMO - loads more punchy and great bottom end!
7.
Ha! Musta been where I went wrong!! Seriously tho, it just failed with no heavy stomping. I musta switched it less than 20 times since it left the box. I guess i may have just been unlucky. Let's see what their customer service is like now.. ....
Fair play, either your unlucky or I'm lucky - even if their customer service is crap, it should be an interesting addition to the review. Although a quick fix with a soldering iron and a new switch from maplin and your sorted. I'm eager to hear your opinion after a good test run
8.
Well I nearly said before that while it sounds better than Boss to me, it doesn't feel as durable. I shoulda said that.....i just went to have another play and the latch in the bypass switch has already broken and I was already in my slippers! So, sorry guys; but no more testing or feedback is possible from me. Shame really, cos as Sir Chewey said i dont think you would get a better one for that price. For the few moments I played thru it again, without the Keeley in the chain to compare to, the Joyo was sounding pretty darn good.
I've been stomping on mine quite a bit over the last few weeks and actually thought it was built pretty well - have had no issues..... You sure this wasn't you in the news the other week?...>>
9. These sound like a great idea. And yeah as long as I'm not playing a gig north of Oxford I'll still be here in the morning.... either that or I'll wake up trapped in a bear hug from a snoring ;'Big Bear Pete', unsure of what actually happenned after the gig!!
10.
Just got to have a first noodle with this compressor. Tried it on both bass and guitar, all passive thru a 15w all valve 1x12 Fender Blues Junior. A/B'd it against a Keeley 4 knob Compressor, which is probably not a fair fight; but it did reveal the difference against a compressor that really knows its onions. Almost inevitably I feel a bit underwhelmed by the Joyo. I felt that it was producing more level than compressio/sustain. Also the tone was quite harsh and actually detracts from the natural tone in bypass; whereas the Keeley adds compression rather than more level and the compression adds nice squashed tone and clarity to picking notes. Obviously the Keeley is about £180 compared to around £30 for the Joyo and at that price it's a steal as a budget compressor and of slightly better quality than a Boss. It is may be nearly on a par with MXR quality. Clearly this is all IMHO and only first impressions. I will play more over w/e and get back to you
Possibly as you say an unfair fight but worth every bit of £30 if your looking for a budget compressor, I personally don't think you'd be able to find a better one for that money. I hope that after your fiddle this weekend, you will be able to do a more detailed review as you seem to have some nice gear to campare it too. Will be interesting to read someone elses thoughts and experience with this pedal.
11.
Never knew that. I wonder who someone like Neil Peart actually goes to for lessons!!
I think it was a chap named Freddy Gruber. I know Peart went back to basics like 'How to hit a drum'; I believe Gruber told im to only use that drum and nothing else for a while and did the same with the rest of his kit slowly introducing other parts. Although a slightly odd concept, I suppose it forces shape and feel of sound. It's like saying give us a bass solo over this II-V-I only using the note G. You soon learn to do something a little more interesting than if you had the whole bass to choose from; less is sometimes more.
12. Yeah I've heard some good things about the squire basses, much better than the MIM Fenders in many peoples view. Good luck with the band mate, sounding good
13. Was dusting through Spotify and found an old project I forgot I'd even put up. I'm not sure if it's still on there or if it's my PC playing secret santa with my playlists but have given the link below. If it works let me know what you think, if not I'll try and pop it up if anyone's interested... Thorne – Brink of Devastation
14. Shockingly no Les Claypool (Primus).. Agree with Rush and a Tool track being on there though. Although I would possibly put Vicarious or The Pot up there, if you've never heard much of Tool, check these two out along with 'Wing for Marie Part 2' - that track is just epic - i think I would have to put Justin Chancellor up there with one of my most favourite bass players!
15. I'm having a realisation at the moment too, you're not alone. I'm in need of brushing up on my theory and putting it into practice. I have a tendency to get a little busy and overcomplicate things when we have a good jam, and some of our jams exceed 30 mins and go through a whole sea of changes. I think by brushing up a little, I'll be able to create some more interesting simple changes to my technique and be able to write a load better on the fly. As a power trio, it's difficult sometimes to have a solid reference point especially through guitar solos and areas of 'atmosphere', I can't afford to stick to my comfort zones so this realisation is somewhat daunting. I only hope that I can break some habits I know I have and hope I don't discover too many more in the process lol Good luck on your technical journey my friend
