  1. Hi All.

I am lucky to finally re-visit ownership of a billy sheehan attitude bass.  I owned one a few years ago but  had to let it go.  I was lucky enough to be offered the chance to buy one and took it.

That said i m a little confused by the control layout (as opposed to the series 1)   yet yamaha dont have anything in terms of manuals etc.

Anyone a guru on such things??

Looks like the front pickup is control by the first two control, the 'back control to precision pickup volumes...but the push /pull series parallel or similar?

Its sound great but actually knowing what does what kinda helps..

  2. I bought this last year from a basschatter.  (using pics from that post)

As you will see i have a bunch of basses up for sale in the hope to fund a bass i have been after for ages.

I am selling it for what i paid for it.

This is one heck of a bass.  So beautifully put together.

    Manufactured 2007

    5 String

    24 Frets

    35" Scale

    9V Active

    4.6kg (bass on its own)

Volume, Pickup Pan, Bass, Mid, Treble, Push/Pull High End Boost

    Bolt-On Neck

Upgraded Overwater PreAmp by John East  (Fitted By Overwater)

inter pickup ramp (also fitted by Overwater)

    Overwater/Hiscox Hardcase

    Strung B - G

String spacing between B-E string 14mm, spacing D-G strings is 16mm

just checked again string specing is same across all strings at 16mm.

  3. Now £450 and will also consider a higher end amp head as a trade..

Ok, when a bass you have wanted comes up its time to murder your darlings.  I am downsizing but...dam G.A.S is a monkey for the back for sure.

So, I wasnt going to put this up for sale.  But there you are.

Ray25CA so a 'classic' layout 5 string smaller bridge and better pickup with the same SUB pre amp.

    But..

I have changed the pre amp for the much better Stinger two band pre amp from Retrovibe.  I have tried a few different pre amps in subs over the years and the stinger 'has it'.

If you take a look at the review by lowendlobster his mark down for the CA series was the pre amp and the series wiring for the pickup.

I have installed a series/parallel switch giving more tonal flexibility.

Finally I have installed a black anodised aluminium scratchplate which looks great with the metallic blue body imho.

She plays great and compared to my SUB5 definitely a mid band bass not entry level.

A couple of small blems on the paint but nothing scary.  Neck is clean and dint free even with a little bit of flame in it.

This is a gig ready stingray, in the classic layout (as opposed to the SR big scratchplate style).  And it sound just like a 'ray should.

  4. The eagle eyed amongst the brethren will have spotted that @WHUFC BASS sold this to me recently.  Circumstances have changed and i have to sell some things and unfortunately for me this is on the hit list.

Since purchase i have gone through the bass, polished out some light scuffs, carbon fibre wrapped the control panels, cleaned and fed the neck, polished the frets and brought the action down to a really nice level.

She is now strung with Fender Nickels (125-45).  The B isnt quite long enough for the trough body stringing buts thats a string thing...  the nice thing on this bass is the massive bridge, with through and top loading string options.

Priced at what i paid for it plus a set of strings i got a bargain and the new buyer will too.

Here is an excerpt from the original post.

I'm selling my Traben Chaos Core "Whisky Burl" 5 String as I've just got too many basses, so grab a bargain. I got this imported from the U.S.A at some considerable cost back in 2010 and have not been disappointed with it at all. It's the more conservative looking bases from the Traben range and it's quite rare to find one of these in the UK these days (especially a 5-string) with the Aguilar pre-amp and Rockfield active pickups. They're quite versitile as both single coils and humbuckers and with the five-way switch you can change the setup instantly (see diagram below).

I've recorded two albums with it and the Aguilar OBP-3 pre-amp really sounds great for recording and live work. The Rockfield pickups really sound great (why they've never made replacement bass pickups in this range is beyond me). The 5 string neck is wide and flat yet really comfortable. Its set up nicely and its never let me down.

    Specs are:

    BRIDGE: Chaos internal bridge
    SCALE: 35"
    NECK CONSTRUCTION: bolt on
    PICKUPS: two Rockfield® humbuckers
    ELECTRONICS: Aguilar OBP-3 pre-amp
CONTROLS: three-band eq with volume and five-way switch
    BODY: Royal Paulonia
    TOP: burled maple
    FRETBOARD Rosewood
    NUT synthetic

    and some thing missed out

    Twin trussrods.

  5. Pretty much every one knows Cort builds stuff for most of the big names in the business.  Their own line is well regarded and this is a very well put together bass indeed.

I do like to bolt on a few upgrades though and this is no exception.

This started out life as a passive Jazz.  I have installed a guyper pre amp and its opened up the tone nicely.  No routing needed so reversible if desired.

Scratchplate  was a plain white which wasnt a match for the fabulous metallic blue, so i wrapped the scratchplate in carbon fibre (durable and looks great)

I have removed the BBOT bridge in favour of a Fender hi mass bridge.

    OPTIONS!!!!

    1.  The bass is currently sporting a pair of NoS wizard '84 pickups and mighty they are too.  (£370)

    2. Revert to the stock pickups (£300)

    All the usuals

    Pickup, tryout in Rochester

Possible meetup as long as its not miles away.

Courier at buyers cost (i have a box to ship it in).

Scammers, dont even try you are not welcome, get a life and some sense of honesty.

  8. Now £250!  thats as low as it goes

    My collection downsizing continues...

Here is a sterling sub5 in green with the following mods:

Retrovibe stinger stingray clone pre amp

    Series parallel a switching

Handmade matte green tinted pearl scratchplate  (same template as a standard sr5 plate)

    Smaller footprint bridge.

    Shielded.

As an aside for the interested reader, there is a route under the plate for a second humbucker in the neck position.

Plays great and i have gigged it a few times , never missed a beat and is a nice looking bass for stage.

    'bad' points

    one dint on lower bout

two screws where the old 'big plate' bridge was.

Its not perfect (reflects in the price) but its different and a nice sounding bass.  The series / parallel switching opens up the sound which is an option you don't get on some sr5 even.  Routing for a second pickup means the handyman in you can go HH or HS relatively easily.

  9. Here i am selling an Ibanez SRX500.

In an orange burst over a quilt top (not sure if its a thin veneer or a photo finish, either way looks great and flips in the light).

When I bought this it had been in storage for a while and needed a recommission, a thorough clean and the pre amp was faulty.

I have replaced the  pre amp with an off the shelf two band, including a more durable jack socket which is a notorious failure point on these. Sound wise its a better option than the original as i find ibanez pre amp a bit hit and miss.  Warm lows and without any  distortion through to clear slap friendly highs.

The bass is in excellent condition and action is low and neck is fast, no fret wear

I have cleaned and polished the neck and frets.

New set of strings (105/45)  on her so nothing to do 'cept play it.

Great Xmas present, cheaper than a new Squier etc and definitely a bass for a gigging musician, Tonally very wide ranging from jaco to hard and heavy. These basses take a de-tune setup easily.

All in all a very champagne versatile bass for lemonade money.

    Controls are Volume, blend, treble,bass.

Bolt on Neck is double octave (24 frets).

  10. Here I am selling a beautiful pretty damn near perfect G & L JB.  Tribute are so well put together i also have an SB-2 and a Kiloton and the quality is consistently excellent.  I have added a Guyper 2 band pre amp and this gives an already punchy bass some extra kahunas.

Swamp ash body means its a stout beast in the 4.5 kg area (crappy bathroom scales)  but hells teeth its a beauty.

Nice jazz profile maple over maple and black binding neck.  Frets perfect

Handsome bass this..  Ask for more pics if interested, i cant get the image size down to the 138kb limit..
