1.
...as promised
Gerry, Brilliant. Much obliged, have a good easter. Ross
 2. Gerry, Thanks for the offer. No, I'm not in too much of a rush - I would like to nail this over the coming months. Ta, Ross
 3.
Off - yes, the Canyon, very nice. I didn't know Tanglewood made the synthetic version either.
Oh, yes. I have a black Tanglewood Curbow 5 (Luthite body/Ebanol fingerboard) sitting in my living-room right this minute. In fact...
 4. Can anyone forward or recommend a good transcription of Birdland.
 5.
Is this your first 5-string? Do you pick the G especially differently to the other strings (different angle of attack, different preferred finger maybe)?
No. I have played 5-ers before. Interestingly, I used the 1x15" last night instead of the 1x12" and it sounded better. So maybe its an amp thing?
 6. I've just finished housing my A-B switching box. I originally built this way back in 1984 from a project in Guitarist magazine - it uses a CMOS chip for click-free operation with LED's to show the active channel. 1984 to 2010 - you can tell I don't like to rush things!! Ross
 7.
I'd personally bring the pickup closer to the G string on the G side.
Surely this would just increase the volume of the G-string - the string sounds deadened/muted though.
 8. All the strings on my Curbow 5 sound full and resonant - except for the G-string, which sounds very weedy, no tone and bit 'quiet' compared to its siblings particularly the first five frets. The strings are 40-125 D'addarios which were replaced 2 months ago. It is a problem with the neck, pick-up, pre-amp, amplifier, speaker or what?? Pulling my (greying) hair out a bit so any advice would be most welcome. Thanks, Ross
 9.
Whoa there - leave the truss alone. You need to shim the neck from what ive read. Add some material to the bridge side of the neck pocket and this will create an angle there fore allowing you to set the action lower. there's a cracking article on here that's pinned about shimming. Good luck! email me if you need a hand Jack!
In my case, I had fitted lower gauge strings and hence there was too much back-bow due to the lower tension imposed on the neck than previously with the heavier gauge strings. Agreed, some thought needs to be exercised before the truss-rod should be adjusted, but under my circumstance the strings were buzzing half-way down the neck - raising the bridge-saddles to accommodate this meant that I could drive a bus under the strings at the 17th fret!!. Loosening the truss-rod had the effect of allowing the strings to vibrate, shimming the neck meant that I could adjust the bridge for a lower action along the neck. 10.
Thanks for the tips guys! A few things for me to look into there...
I had a similar issue with my Curbow 5-string. Shimmed the neck and loosened the truss-rod in small steps - sorted. The trick is to do a little adjustment and then allow a few days for the neck to settle before re-checking and re-adjusting as required. Hope this helps.
 11.
Everything was fine, the wife didn't notice new guitars or amps....but then my daughter learned to talk, and she notices everything! So it ususally goes......"MUM!!! Dads bought a new guitar!!"...... kids, eh? There so cute when they're babies you could eat them, then they grow up and you wish you had!
Yeah, I was my youngest that dobbed me in really. The 'Wow, that's nice, small body' comment whilst looking at my curbow didn't help. This was closely followed by a scowl by the trouble-and-strife.
 12.
My SR5 arrived while Mrs Endian was in labour. AFAIK, she thinks I've always had it. (And no, I'm not going to get her up the stick again just so I can sneak in another bass.)
'spose it was my fault for polishing the frets on the ironing-board.
 13. My missus has detected my new bass acquisition - I should be more careful!!!!
 14.
There was a youtube thing on here the other week where a bass player tried it at a gig and the bass flew off and crashed onto the floor. It was hilarious. I can't find it though.
This one?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixA8cA_fVJc
 15. Now surplus to requirements due to purchase of Yamaha keyboard. Two, three octave keyboards, bass pedals, rhythm unit. Very retro, would suit retro-style band. Some of the keys a little 'sticky' but shouldn't be too difficult to sort out. £50 OVNO - buyer collects (its a bit heavy for postman pat to manage!!). Medway area.
 16. Well I like the Fender and I like the Squier, but which is best. There's only one way to find out - FIGHT!!!
 17. Can anyone recommend how to clean/polish an ebanol fingerboard to make it nice and shiny new looking? T-Cut??
 18. Ordered a set of D'addario EXL170-5 strings from RST Music through Amazon on Monday - they arrived today!! Brilliant service, good price £15.95 free postage.
 19.
I'd rather not... West Thurrock I can do.
You have a PM
 20.
bump to £120 collected
£120, meet in Dartford area????
 21.
Well spotted! I was coming back from some gigs abroad and had to go straight to the photo shoot from the airport. I don't like to take my original 62 P-bass on planes so I had my 'touring bass' with me. It's a 1983 JV Squier 62 reissue with a Lindy Fralin pickup, also with flats. Andrew
Nice
 22. Interesting how Andrew McKinney's 62 Fender Precision has morphed into a Squier Precision in the photo on page 28.
 23.
bump to £150 + postage
Any idea of postage to the Medway towns?
 24. I have started using my new Behringer DC9 and it has been fine and the sound has been perfect, but Sunday I received a few comments that I was sounding a bit fuzzy and distorted. What am I doing wrong - have I got too much compression on? Maybe the battery has flattened (mental note to check - but I have only used it for 10 hours max). It is frustrating coz the sound was really nice - but the sound now is better with the compressor out of circuit.
 25.
Going off at a tangent, the houseband at my local jam night two weeks ago had a left-handed bass player playing a left-handed Fender Jazz. I spent half an hour trying to figure out what was "wrong" with his set-up ... nothing wrong with his playing, but it looked weird. Finally sussed it. His left-handed bass was strung right-handed. In other words, I could have taken his bass and played it upside down. The controls would have been in the wrong place, and the body cut-out down by my knees, but it would have been perfectly playable. I asked him about it. His older, right-handed brother learned to play bass, and he then learned to play on his brother's bass. End of. Really nice guy, and played some wicked walking lines.
Check out Andy McCluskey of OMD - he is right-handed, but originally learned to play bass guitar on a left-handed model. As a result, he plays with the strings "upside down".
