I find it's best to start with a click at a very slow tempo, however slow it needs to be that you can play the figure consistently then once your brain and your fingers know what they are doing, up the tempo by say, 5bpm and only moving up when you can play that consistently too etc.

Personally I would hit that lick with 1st finger then 2nd and 1st for the 2 16ths, raking back with that first to begin again. Hope that makes sense.
If you start very very slow you will probably find what suits you best.

Any good with a pick? Could be easier that way.

Like Clockwork has really grown on me these last couple of months, to the point where I'm actually listening to it every day now.
Maybe this is why the reviews weren't universally glowing initially, time is needed to digest it all?
Anyways I'm holding my hands up now, f**king excellent album.

Also another fave of mine this year is Push The Sky Away by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Another killer writer.
Not a 'bass' album at all (pretty subdued compared to 'Dig..' although Martyn P Casey is the king of understated cool (he hardly does anything but he sounds fantastic).

Any nice new discoveries lately anyone?

Sometimes I wish I had a better handle on the concept of "saving up".
I would no doubt have my dream bass twice over had I not bought/sold/lost money/modded/lost more money on a good few lesser basses.
Saying that though, it has been a fun trip!

Not sure why to be honest, just read a couple of times on various forums that it happens. Good to hear you've done it though. It's all in the prep I guess, plus maybe some folks built up the coats too quick. I dunno.
All we can do is our homework as best as we can and then take an educated guess.
If it is that easy to use modern auto paints and primers then that certainly increases everyone's colour options for their basses, plus it makes the products available in the guitar finishing industry seem a bit of an overpriced swizz doesn't it?

Flea, upon completion of the BSSM album, refused to gig his Wal MKII as he deemed it too dorky looking and not cool enough for him.
Seeing as he arguably has never sounded better than on that album, he basically decided to trade his best ever tone, the one that inspired a generation of young bassists, for shallow aesthetics (personally I think the Wal looks cool as) Then he ends up touring with those awful day-glo fleabass efforts...

It certainly is.

I wasn't too jazzed by it at first to be honest but it's really grown on me.
Initially I was disappointed as I look to QOTSA for a bit of a 'rawk' fix and LC is more subdued (relatively).
But, it does go much deeper than any previous QOTSA album and the textures are rich (this is Josh Hommes post-near death experience album so no wonder the guy's feeling reflective).

Anyhoo, judging by the recent concert footage on youtube, the new stuff does work well with older rawk numbers.

Odds are on that your CV will be the nicer bass.
Tried a few 80's Fenders when I was shopping for a P once and they were all obscenely heavy. Like REALLY bad back hurt you heavy.
All the CV's I've picked up to play in shops over the last few years have been great, really nice to play (relative to how off the hook shop set ups can be) and always make me smile.
Just play yours for 30 years and you'll have a really cool old bass
If you do go shopping for an older bass though, shop with your head not your heart and be patient until you find the right one for you. There are thousands of basses out there, take your time.

I've never used "Sanding Sealer" but unless it's got some amazing properties it wont stick to an oiled surface. In fact if you oli the wood nothing much will cover it without it staying as a sticky mess.

Before painting with anything to seal the wood you need to get rid of any remains of oil on the wood. Before painting/spraying any oiled wood you need to wash the wood in loads of white spirit and then sand down the wood to get a smooth finish.

Finish off in 400grain sandpaper (or finer) before spraying.

Thank you for the good advice there Grangur.
I was unsure myself as to spraying a clear coat over Tru-oil, but I've read that many have done this ok as long as you let it dry first and then give it a key as you suggested. Unlike 'real' oil, Tru-oil is a mix of poly-based varnish, boiled linseed oil (which contains drying agents) and thinners, so given a bit of time it will actually dry.
I am going to work ahead of myself on a scrap piece of wood this time just to make sure though!
