Wooooooo! Clicking on "(reset configuration to factory defaults)" seems to have fixed it. Not sure why I've never bothered to look in Reaper's start menu... thanks a bunch man.

Thanks for the reply dood. I have tried reinstalling, I even installed the Reaper 4 beta - still the same problem. Unfortunately I don't have any other machines to test it on (nor a USB key to run it off). As for device drivers, there hasn't been an update for them since I got the interface. I'm starting to think it may have something to with the ASIO driver setting (which I've updated and downgraded to see if it was the cause) or sample rate - something like that, but I've never tampered with those settings (neither on the ASIO panel or in Reaper) and don't have a clue what a lot of it means. I think it's very strange that it only occurs when I change the tempo or time sig...

Have googled as much as my sanity can bear and haven't come across anything, so thought I'd post here. I've had this problem with Reaper for about 2 months, and it just started happening randomly, without fiddling with any settings (to the best of my memory, anyway). I can record things and play them back just fine and without a hitch, only until I change the tempo or time signature in the project settings does it start playing back with this horrible fuzz. I've been using Reaper & my audio interface (UA-25EX) and been getting along just fine for well over a year, so I'm really at a loss for what it could be. I know it's not my instruments or cables - they all work and sound fine when I direct monitor them via the UA-25EX. Anyone here ever experienced similar, or know what's going on? Cheers.

I'm not jealous of the 6 string slap bassists who have nailed all the techniques and use them to play 64th notes at 1000BPM. I'm constantly told that I should at least respect their "passion", but no. There is no reason I should respect the fact that some people have taken a lot of time out of their days to hone a technique on their instrument. I am jealous of the people who have picked the right notes and played them at the right time, in a way that makes me tick. But as someone here already stated, it's the kind of jealousy that just makes me want to better myself. Case in point, the song that made me pick up a bass to begin with.

It's got a sweet plate reverb, that can be adjusted to achieve this...

Cheers for all the links that everyone has posted in this thread... almost too much information goodness, but it's all bookmarked I thought it'd be interesting to start a blog tracking my progress as someone who has never built a circuit in their life, hopefully into someone who can create effects pedals worthy as gifts for friends, live use, recording etc. For everything I build, I'm going to post detailed logs with photos and videos - including the (inevitable) mistakes and troubleshooting. Also, I'll be posting pretentious little concepts for pedals I hope to be able to build in the future, this way they'll pile up and I'll never be short of ideas when I've learnt how to create and tame the beastly creature known as fuzz. Looking at these posts, I know it's not gonna be a walk in the park but it's something I've always really wanted to have a go at. I've been looking at their videos for a while, the blueSky reverb takes my breath away every time. and judging by the quality of their videos and replies on youtube, they are definitely worth spending money on.

I've had a few big muffs for my guitar and currently have the big muff germanium 4 and when I've used them with my bass, all of them have seemed to strip away not only the low end, but also the tone from the amp. to be fair though, i've never played them through any amazing bass amps, only a few <£500 hartke and ampeg combos. Seeing as it is a gift, there's no harm in just trying it out.
