Did it not occur to them that they were buying 30 years of continual R&D and fine-tuning?

Maybe thats the problem....I though it was a Fender company policy to not update on designs...... (runs and ducks for cover........) ;) :D

Back on topic.... I have a ShuttleMax 9.2, great amp, plenty of power, lighter than a light thing thats been on a diet, well made etc. I have 2 other amps (Demeter pre/power amp & Alembic / Powersoft) that see more use than the GB at the moment. No particular reason and at some point the GB will become the main one again....and the cycle continues :)

2. Hi All,

I've been looking to replace the pots on one of my basses as they are getting worn / loose and probably ready to die after 20+ years of work! The bass is active with originally installed Bartolini pre-amp etc. I got a copy of the wiring diagram which shows the specs of the pots and I've check that with whats installed in the bass. All OK so far..... So I then try to source replacements using the usual known suppliers Maplin, RS, Allparts etc and find that I'm really struggling to get some of the items. My shopping list is:

Volume : 3/8" (9.5mm) diam. bushing, standard length, 25 K-ohm, audio / log taper
Blend / Pan : 3/8" (9.5mm) diam. bushing, standard length, 250 K-ohm, Dual MN taper with centre detent
Treble & Bass pots : 3/8" (9.5mm) diam. bushing, standard length, 500 K-ohm, audio / log taper with centre detent
Mid : 3/8" (9.5mm) diam. bushing, standard length, 50 K-ohm, audio / log taper with centre detent

I can get the vol & pan pretty easily but treble, mid and bass pots with centre detent seem to be elusive at the moment. Active basses with cut and boost are pretty common nowadays and similar pots would be used in audio equipment so my quest shouldnt be THIS hard! I've tried the parts suppliers in the pinned thread http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248-recommended-spare-parts-suppliers-guidesdiagrams/

Can anyone advise where I should look or manufacturers I can contact? I would like to get good quality replacements so any brands to look out for or keep clear of would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

3. With my Barefaced Big Twin T I use various combinations of Demeter HBP1-800D, Alembic F-1X into a Powersoft LD2004 or a Genz-Benz ShuttleMax 9.2. I prefer using the Demeter or Alembic / Powersoft over the Genz as they seem to give the clarity and sound I like. Clean, full range, hi-fi and punchy but not wooly or brittle. I'm not saying the Genz is sub-par in any way as its one heck of an amp, just slightly prefer the others.

4. I think it was on Talk Bass that a guy did such a test using a Jazz bass. He recorded the bass as standard and then swapped out the body for a random lump of wood he found. He was quite particular to place the bridge / pickups / action so that any changes were attributed to only the body wood. I think the result was that in this case there was very little discernable difference. I'll see if I can find the link......here it is :

Did somebody say Modulus?

Ash body, mahogany core, spalted maple top, "1000 dancing ladies" graphite neck, John East U-Retro preamp, MEC pick-ups (I think).

:)

Custom wound Aero pickups. The bass was originally made for a Doctor in Houston who sold it onto a shop called Danny D's. I picked it up there and brought it back to the UK in Nov 2006.

So whats new about that? I've been using that style for the last 30 years.....lol

I like them. Chilled & laid back with many a good bass line to work out :)

7. Not particulary a Marleeaux as such. I was talking with Bass Gear about a Demeter pre/power amp (whi was delivered to me today :D ) and I saw the bass on their website and went oooh I like that! I asked them a few questions about it and by the time I had decided to get it, you had already bought it. Ah well.....
