Honest enough description, top money though for a jazz in this condition, there's much cheaper '66's out there. Shame though, looks nice from the front, and rather horrid on the back. This is in the US too, where there's more choice, to achieve this price in the UK wouldn't surprise me though.

On this particular bass, I'd play it, I'd be very careful where i played it, but I'd play it. Firstly, Norman is certainly an acquired taste, and with respect, isn't in the Entwistle/McCartney/Jaco league of past owners, that would push its value into the stratosphere, and thus deem it a display/private playing instrument. Secondly, it is not in near mint condition, or of specific rarity (It's rare all'right, but it's a '62 Jazz, with an alleged likely refin, they are not exactly unseen), that would therefore deem it appropriate to preserve it, and not play it on a regular basis. This is certainly not my opinion on all vintage basses, but on this one, yes, play it, and....... i bet it plays, and sounds, the dogs cajones!!
Did we say they look ugly and are really unbalanced?
I think we covered the ugly bit, the horrible to play bit, but looks like the unbalanced bit got overlooked!! Just to be clear, when you say "really unbalanced", do you mean the basses, or the owners....or both?? -
Maybe but you would have to stand behind me as I am already in that corner as I too think Ricky basses are the most hideous horrible basses ever made in the world. I hated the one I owned and soon sold it. Had another go a few years later and yep, hated it just as much Now give me an F......Give me an E...... Give me an N.....ok I'll stop now
Don't stop, I was chanting along....... -
I don,t think we will hear much Rick bashing on thus thread. Jetglo rules
Rick 4001/3's are the ugliest basses ever created, actually not quite, but they're pretty close, there, I did it (Is this the part where I retreat to the safety of my corner, you know, the one with the big backwards 'F' embossed on it??) -

Fender Dusty Hill Signature Precision Bass
Rick's Fine '52 replied to TransistorBassMan's topic in Bass Guitars
I think the price is in line with other similar signature stuff the Fender CS knocks out, so have no issue there. I personally don't like the bass though. Here's a pic of him with my '52, (with a proper headstock!); -
It's coincidence.. I'm a '72 vintage. Technically though, I suppose I began to exist in '71...
That still works, its a YOC bass (Year of conception). Nice basses, not a fan of the RB's, I'm too much of a snobby purist, but sunburst is hard to beat on a Fender! lovely collection.
-
I'm in! L-R: 1971 Precision, 1971 fretless Precision, Roscoe Beck IV, 1971 Jazz. By the way, I'm happy to note the use of the word 'settee' on this thread, rather than 'couch' or 'sofa'. I approve.
is '71 your YOB by any chance, or just coincidence you have those 3?? Just asking because it's also mine.

This has been posted elsewhere some time back, but was looking at the pic again today, and noticed it was on a sofa, so, well, here it is;
For pow22 and ovo, I've got a black one exactly the same as in the picture, and my old roses paint splashed one currently resides in the British music experience exhibition at the O2 arena.....along with MY paint splashed clothes from the famous roses photo shoot.
here's my pretender!!
OMG, this one is SOOOOOoooooo COOOOOooooooooooooool......
I assume you looked at the house and went through some sort of trusted agent or bank? What happens when something goes wrong?
Agents have no assurance or trust whatsoever. The responsibility of checking what you buy is purely with the buyer, the agent simply brokers the deal. If the house falls down a week after you buy it, the agent has no responsibility at all. The onus is on the buyer to carry out any checks he deems appropriate, which may involve a 3rd party, such as structural engineer, etc. same applies with a guitar purchase, its up to the buyer to take responsibility for his action, and purchase.
I assume you looked at the house and went through some sort of trusted agent or bank? What happens when something goes wrong? Done doesn't mean finished if the bass (no idea where houses and cars came from, or why) has faults. While this has nothing to do with the post count topic i really envy those who live in this perfect world and every thing they buy, unseen is perfect.
I always look at my basses before I buy, unless its cheap, in which case i'll take my chance. I know what i'm buying, know what to look for, and if it's right, and the price is sensible, then I'll buy, if not, i won't. No perfect world about it. If you send money to someone you dont know, on the off chance they'll send a bass matching the description....or a bass at all, then that's the chance you take, and it is a chance, that's the 'real world', which is also where i exist. I have bought basses off people on here, who i didnt know (Just because they have 5000 posts, doesnt mean I know them!), and i take my chance. I have faith in human nature, and so far i've never come unstuck. If i sent £800 to someone i didn't know, and it went wrong, then i would deal with that in my own way, but its a chance you take. If i was buying a £10k bass, i'd go and see it, anyone who does different is foolish. But we all have a choice. I don't get the 'perfect world' reference in this though?
