Hi Andy
What gauge are the strings please?
    Thanks
Hiya matey,

As Hutton rightly said above, 43-56-70-100 :)

  2. [s]For sale, the set of Rotosound superb strings that were on my db when I got it.

They were new on when I bought it and while they look, sound and feel really lovely for pizz playing I need to be able to play arco at times too so have switched them for a set of spiro weichs.

The E and A are tapewound monel and the D and G are nylon wound and look a bit like gut strings.

    E

    A

    D

    G

    Lovely mellow rootsy sound.

£120 for the set new, these are barely used and in excellent condition, no parting of any windings and just a little 'furring' of the tail-end silk.

Strings are in Sheffield and are ready to post :)[/s]

  3. progress pic...

we now have frets, the neck carve is almost there (he now has my '78 to borrow so he can fine-tune the carve) body has been sanded back to clear coat only and looks rather lovely as-is

  4. [s]For sale, the set of ti jazz flats that were on my fretless ray 4 when I bought it, I've not given them any use besides working out they're too light for me and they were new on when I got the bass...

Cut for a 3+1 stingray tuner layout and looking/feeling essentially new.

    Price includes UK postage

  5. [s]For sale a pair of superb (sadly discontinued) Sennheiser e855 mics, they've been frequently used and show some cosmetic evidence of that.

Both work perfectly and sound superb just not fitting current needs...I could do with another beta 58a or two...

Mics are in Sheffield or I can post within UK.

    £60 each or £100 for the pair.[/s]

If that were my bass I would get rid of that solid wire tailpiece hanger sharpish though - they're prone to breaking (which is terrifying!) and people often say that the bass opens up with a flexible braided cord.
The tailgut is on my list of things to do (along with a new bridge, tailpiece and a few other bits when I get some more cash together) it shows no visible signs of metal fatigue or any sign of having been touched in decades but yes I've heard horror stories and it's definitely on my 'to-do' list :D

Nice, can't wait to get and try mine. Do you like it?
It's very nicely built and very sturdy indeed, there's a massive convenience to having the fixed length endpin to just slot in when you setup, I've only had a very brief go with it and soundwise I need a more sustained time to play in a quiet house and do a comparison to be able to hear the full difference :)

After taking my time settling on a height i ordered myself a walnut one last night.
mine arrived yesterday, lovely looking piece of Walnut too, gonna try it this evening :)

Having tried Tom's Duke with his Walnut endpin I'll be getting one for my own db once I've fettled one or two bits on it, probably oak as she's even sounding but of mellow tone...first job is to repair her current endpin and then try her with some spiro strings to get a better idea of what she sounds like to know which wood to go for :)
Walnut endpin ordered from Ben via ebay, should be here next week :)

  10. [s]For sale is my NXT4 in black, in excellent condition with a total of 3 tiny marks I could find...
1 on front but you can barely see it
1 on back where the body attaches to the stand, and
1 at the top of the headstock.

Comes complete with stand and bag both in great condition and fully working.

I have been its second keeper and it has had infrequent use by me, selling now as I have an acoustic db and it needs a bit of work so I need a bit of cash ;)

Part trades with David gage realist pup happily considered :)

Local collection / delivery from around Sheffield / South Yorkshire preferred but shipping could potentially be arranged if it was a deal breaker.[/s]

  11. Originals band...
'78 p bass - looks and sounds perfect, occasional seasonal niggles and no current back-up in case of disaster
2016 Shuker p bass (incoming - clone of my '78 for greater seasonal stability and a few modern appointments)
Orange AD200b mk3 - looks and sounds perfect
Orange OTB500 - backup head in case of disaster (currently being repaired...)
    Orange OBC115 x2
1960 Czech Laminate Double Bass (Originals band acoustic shows)

Everything Else I get asked to play from time to time...
    ACG 5 string
    Musicman Stingray4 fretless
    Markbass CMD102p combo

Stuff I haven't sold yet but don't need...
NS Designs NXT4 don't need this now I have the db

  12. ...body and neck have now had tinted lacquer applied so I popped in for a look and the neck looks absolutely stunning! The body looks beautiful but is darker than I was wanting so it's getting redone much lighter...

    More neck pics...

the fingerboard can be fretted now

and here's the back, the basic carve is done, next step after fretting is the more delicate carving for which he'll be borrowing my 'donor' bass so try and get the carve feeling as similar as possible :)
