There’s one on eBay at the moment and I have often been tempted but I agree, the RM module is preferable for me too...

I've seen one on eBay at the moment for £575 which is a surprise as it doesn't look too smart to me. Also the seller describes it as a 'heavy lump' - I'm sure mine was only around 6kg.

  2. Ashdown should revive the LB550 case, with the same tube front end and a decent power stage. I found the one in my LB550, and MiBass 550, to be quite lacking. Maybe the RM module.

I love the LB format though.

  3. I've had a few different Ashdown amps in my time, and none of them have been bad. One regret I have is never owning a Spyder. I played one of the 550 versions at a mini festival type thing about 6 years ago and loved it's tone and simplicity, like you said above.

Valve front end with their class AB solid state power stage. Not much to complain about there.

I'd put them next to each other, or use the combo as a woofer underneath with the 2x10 on top.  Remember that both cabs see equal wattage.

That is a great combo.  I had one but sold it for a similarly high powered head but with more versatile EQ (Little Marcus 800).  I still have the TRV123 extension cab.

Ooh look darling, how about a side table for drinks?

    No, she said.

Have just picked up a GP12 SMX 15" combo from a fine chap in Harogate.

Already love it, although going beyond 2.5 on the main volume seems to be threatening the integrity of the house. As long as the roof doesn't come down this might be the best £200 I've spent for a good while.

Thanks once again for all the comments and advice.

Jolly good choice. Enjoy muchly 😎🎸

Ok I'm intrigued that your Boss LMB-3 would be your 'irreplaceable' pedal - what makes it so special for you or does it do that a quality compressor doesn't hit the mark on?

Which other comps have you had that have come close and what's the Keeley doing better to pip them to the post?

Why the LMB3? Well I've used it for years, always does what I need it to and is easy to use, reliable and solid. That makes it a quality pedal for me. And live that is invaluable.

There are other more expensive ones out there of course.

A new venue for us last night , the old red lion in little Sutton , a proper music pub and well looked after , plenty of sockets , extension cables, lighting rig and a couple of electric fans for us !

we have been trying to get a gig there for quite a few years , but they book a year up and it is almost a closed shop.

we took a cancellation and stormed it , we set up at 6.30 which meant they could put the match on, as the big screen is on the stage area,  ok, the match result didn't go as hoped but the place stayed very busy , we will be asked to fill in more this year and will be on the booking roster next year , result :sun_bespectacled:

a 15 minute drive home , with the sky lighting up in the distance it was quite surreal

Nice one, glad you got a result there.

Agreed. It's the hairy arsed bike scene to which I referred earlier.

However, I am old so my derrière is permanently hairy.

Oh. The clever censor turned my a-word for bottom into derriere. It even added the correct French accent. Impressive.

    Mange tout Rodney.

I'm not so sure , I know a fair few youngsters that have bikes , but they don't do the hairy arsed bike 'scene' if you will.

They enjoy a party but not necessarily the stereotypical hog, classic or Brit type thing

Now there's an interesting thought... I might borrow a cab and see how things sound.

Thank you all for your opinions. I strongly suspect that I'll be going the Trace route, if only because its what we use in rehearsals and I know I can get it to sound exactly as I want. Will just have to invest in one of those fold-up trolleys too.

Definitely try the additional cab first, just in case.

However, if the Trace gets the sound exactly as you want, I think the answer is there.

Please do let us know how it pans out.

That's not a username to be proud of xD

Nice find, cool bass! Those old USA Peaveys are very underappreciated IMO.

Yeah.... Who on earth would want to have the word 'bass" in their username? Sheer madness, I tell thee.

Was in Cheltenham the other week, right by that place. Never heard of it fortunately as I’d now be in the possession of a criminal record.

Would that be a Police record? Ouch...

    thanks Geoff,

I think the whole biker gig thing can go great or tank as well.

I don't know what the biker scene is like in the UK. Thing is, from what I've seen these older bikers are not the wild partiers they might have been 40 years ago. And there are no new young bikers. The Millennials are not into the whole wind blowing threw their hair freedom thing. They stay home and play computer games. It's the reason Harley is having a hard time selling bikes.

    Blue

That's a fair point my friend.

About 30 years ago, or more, I was a regular attendee of many biker festivals throughout the UK. Of note were the Kent Custom Bike shows run annually by the local Hell's Angels. My god what fabulous weekends they were. A total festival environment where all were welcome and partied, whether you rode a Harley, a BMW, Guzzi, Japanese or a Vespa. They got some cracking well known bands to headline. Great times.

As you say, things are different now. I'm not the party animal I once was, and the carefree enjoyment attitude just doesn't seem to be there from youngsters. Everyone is too busy with the latest iPhone to care lol.

I don't ride any more, but I do play bass. It's my last thread connecting me to something different. 🎸
