Isn't it better to give people false expectations and then prove them completely wrong in a good way? I mean, they're not gonna leave the gig just coz they don't like the look of your bass! I did my last couple of gigs with my 6-string and maybe people thought I was trying to be John Myung and then they saw me play and perhaps I changed their minds

Even when you're just playing root notes or something similar, you can get your guitarist to stop for a bar and just play the same riff on your own - bass runs are immensely cool without having to be complicated/difficult

+1 Stick to 4-string and it should go down fine - you might wanna consider playing it with a pick if you don't do that anyway - I play it on my 8-string with a 20p and it sounds much better than fingers

Just bought an Ibanez 5-string fretless off this guy - it's an absolute delight to play Awesome guy - brought the bass out to my house and chucked in a set of strings! Very happy to deal with!

Lovely guy - would certainly buy again, given the opportunity!

I'd just go ahead and do it... if you don't play too well, it's gonna reflect badly on his band
