Do not bring that bass again... please

That sounds like it was a respectful exchange of opinions though. -
Congrats, long may it continue!

I think I've been incredibly lucky. Only one guitarist has ever so much as tutted at my choice of bass (muttered something about Precision basses being better). He's shorter than me so I just ignored him Additional - not strictly true - I also heard that he didn't like Thunderbirds, so guess who acquired a Tokai T-bird, just to annoy him? The band is long gone but we're still friends -
Welcome, fellow Scottish bassist. Not saying Aberdeen is full of suspicious yokels, but if Hutton hadn't asked "furry boot ye frae?", I probably would have

Off the top of my head the TB+ pickups are also found on the Gibson IV and V basses (80s basses), the Epiphone Classic Pro Thunderbird and found their way onto some Gibson Les Paul basses. After picking up the excellent "Gibson Bass Book" I can add EB-650 Les Paul basses LPB-1, 2 and 3 Blackbird Money/Les Paul Double Cut Grabber II EB-11 (LP Jr. Double Cut) Les Paul Oversized 2011 Flying V Midtown 2012 NR Thunderbird

Sounds reasonable to me - I recently changed all the strings on my Reverend Triad because I didn't like the feel of the stock strings. I must have ended up going up a gauge because all the strings were sharp on the intonation and all saddles had to go back a bit.

I hope it didn't come across as "here's a glib answer to what I perceive to be a stupid question". Succinct is a much better word, thanks! I'd also like to add that while sound engineering a massive show with many instruments, full drum kit miking etc. is a serious undertaking, operating a couple of powered speakers and a small (say 8 channel) mixer for a covers band isn't rocket science. In my covers band, the drummer and I do it. We've learned as we go and refined what we do in response to audience feedback. Share our spoils with a knob twiddler? No way -

Check for hairy feet? That was maybe a touch too geeky. Welcome, from whichever Shire you're from

I've not tried that bass technique before.

Sweet Chestnut - Suitable for Neck/Body?
neepheid replied to SamIAm's topic in Repairs and Technical
https://www.wood-database.com/sweet-chestnut/ It's pretty soft, but it's a little harder than basswood and that gets used for making solid bodies all the time. (Basswood for comparison - https://www.wood-database.com/basswood/) -
The bus passes are sunburst/tort too?
-
Just about the time the free bus pass comes through, eh?

Depends on the type of nut on the end of the truss rod - if it's removable you could take the nut off, thread on a few washers then tighten up again to give you some more threads to work with.

This is "basses on the settee", not basses next to the settee!

How to find a drummer? Central Scotland

Why can't he do both? I'm in two bands with my drummer and that's when he's not off doing misc side bands from time to time. We're in a very similar position - one originals band which gigs occasionally and writes songs and a rock covers band which gigs much more frequently. They rarely clash and at times it's been helpful for the originals band to be able to borrow PA etc. on rare occasions where they play places with no house backline. -

Van Morrisons - ahh good, the groceries are here. -
20 frets? Centrally located pickup? Ever so slightly beefed up BBOT bridge? It's a P bass that had a fight with a dodecahedron and lost! I actually quite like how it looks. But it's like me in a new shirt - apart from the change of shirt, it's still the same barely proficient bass player!
-
It just smacks of trying too hard to be different.
-
Because it's both and neither at the same time?

What does it matter? Is it arrogant? No, I don't think so. My personal thinking would be that if I had a new song, I'd probably want to have it somewhere in the middle of the main set, so if it goes over a bit meh then there's other songs to bring the set momentum back on track. But that's just me, and I'm not saying that others are wrong for thinking a different way. Of course, it would be nice to be in such a position - to have recognised songs for listeners to compare the new one to and make relative judgements about, but that's another issue entirely
