Sorry, I wasn't trying to hijack or start a war.  I have bitten my lip so many times when I see BF bashing threads on here out of respect for his fan base but I am sick to death of "can we wait til after..." replies from the official BF email address, so I assume this workshop guy is aware too.  I have been really poorly and housebound over the last couple of years so have not managed to prioritise chasing it myself but I've never had even an inkling of a date from BF so it's not like I caused the problem by postponing dates to bring them in myself.

Anyway, today I just felt the need to rant as I've recently got back into playing and rehearsed with one on Monday night.  It looked a lot more poor than I last remember, so must have flicked my switches a bit......

I'll shut up now - as you were....

Honestly no need to apologise, my comment was tongue in cheek.

    If that's a 1st Gen Midget, it's a 1x12 . Not a 1x10.

Wow I have made a hash of this - but at least I'm learning. My only defence is I was told it was midget gen 1 when I bought it and having no experience of BF cabs I had no reason to doubt this. The 12" I put down to never measuring it just being amazed by how tiny it is and assuming it was 10" Thank you both.

Of course I now don't know if I want a gen 1 gen 2 or gen X as a trade. I've totally lost confidence. However this is such a majorly long shot that someone wants precisely this trade that I don't suppose it matters all that much. 😬

  3. Oh my - I really am showing myself up aren't I?  So sorry I've been writing 10 and not 12 all through - thank you @barkin how you spotted that when I've always missed it I'll never know. I suppose it's such a crazy small cab I just assumed it was a 1 X 10 and never measured it.

The voice would change quite dramatically if you changed the 110 for a second Compact, you would lose the punchiness and upper definition.  My Barefaced 'journey' (!) started with a Compact.  I added a Midget a shortish while later and when used together that changed the sound quite a bit - added the tightness that the Compact alone missed.

Sorry Paul, thank you for your answer.

leave it on standby if you have to wait anymore than 10/15 minutes before playing. If its literally hours then switch it off. I'll soundcheck then go into standby, grab a drink, take a p1ss, then one two three...forgot to switch it back out of standby!

Ha ha - that sounds just the kind of thing I would do. Thanks for indulging me.

  6. Down to £590, something else I want may go soon so don't delay buy this today.

I wanted one, I got one, I loved it, I'm selling it. This is what @zander71 had to say about it when I bought it late last year and nothing has changed since. In fact I only gigged it once:

"Looking to sell ... this lovely 60's re-issue jazz bass. I believe this is a 62 model although it has the separate pickup volume controls. It's a "crafted in Japan" version and is from 2004-5 according to the R serial number.

It's has no issues and is set up low and fast. A few bumps and dinks as would be expected of a 14 year old guitar. Weighs between 8.5/9lb."

I reproduce these comments as I don't know anything more than that! I'm faced with a straight choice, sell bass equipment or don't get my car fixed. No car = no gigs so it's kind of a no brainer really.

Sorry looking dog not included. I'm in North somerset but always happy to meet folk half way. Be silly to trust this with Hermes wouldn't it?

Anyhoo you don't care about all this - you know the price you just want to drool over the pics don't you?

  7. As per title I have a lightly relic'd Barefaced 1X10  1 X 12 cab and I'm after swapping it for a Barefaced Compact - first gen 1 X 15. Has to be Gen 1 so it will match my existing 15 for size. Happy to haggle a bit depending on condition cash your way if your relic job is better that sort of thing.

Happy Jack's original FS thread here, I've done nothing to worsen or improve the condition of this cab which HJ had already given a realistic subtle roadworn look. I can't tell you his methods as they are probably a trade secret. Probably.

EDIT: I have been reliably informed this is a 12" not a 10". My tape measure confirms my embarrassment. As to the gen 1 gen 2 debate it's 1 - 1 at the moment, please feel free to weigh in!!

You may prefer it.  There are plenty of experts on here (and much more qualified than me) that will warn you off mixing driver sizes (such as your current 15" and 10" setup) due to cone filtering effects etc. I know I used to have a 2x10+1x15 setup and loved the cabs on their own but always struggled when using them together.  Each to their own and all that, you won't know what is right for you until you try it.....

That's interesting because @Happy Jack who sold me the cabs said something about them being designed to be used together. I'm hazy on the details but I think that's right. Maybe the man himself might see this and fill us in...

Louder maybe, a little less top end possibly, if I remember rightly the compact had the kappalite 15 which had more mids and top end, whereas my Dubster has the kappalite 15lf which had not much top at all and acceptable mids, plus enormous amounts where it matters. I can't remember anyone complaining about much when running  2 15" compacts.

Thanks mate. Now to wait patiently for someone after the right trade!

Have a trawl through the classifieds for an old Barefaced Vintage. A 2x15 cab that is a one handed lift (for me anyway) and is wide enough to  sit a "proper" amp on top. I used to have one and it sounded great, but was just too big for the stairs in the practice room we were using at the time... I'd have another like a shot, but there are not that many around and people tend to hang on to them as they are so good...

    Thank you

The things people find to fret about...

I only raise it as a concern because I can't afford to replace the Ampeg if it collapses the cabs.

I certainly don't find things not do I fret. It is a concern and it's been addressed by others and so now it doesn't concern me.

This very question delayed me buying a BF cab. I had a notion that my Bass 400 would just fall right through the cab. IN actual fact the cab held ther weight without a problem. The fact that the centre of gravity was not quite high up did rather trouble me. I did feel a bit nervous with my amp oin the top of two cabs that would fall over when the van went round a corner!!

Glad I'm not alone in worrying about this!

I have seen a rather chunky local bass player stand on his for pretty much an entire song at a recent event. The cab took it no problem but no way would I risk that with mine. But with that in mind I wouldn’t imagine the amp would pose any risk at all.

    Thank you
